Fun fact: Prior to Hurricane Iniki hitting Kauai in 1992 there were no feral chickens running around. The winds from the storm blew down the chicken coops all over the island and the chickens got out and started breeding. :)
I visited Maui and absolutely loved it! I didn't want to see tall buildings or be in the city, hence I choose Maui. It was just like Kona. Just sea, sky and trees! The most relaxing vacation EVER!!!
I visited 4 islands there years ago but it was on a cruise and the stops were so short. If I go again I will pick 1 island and just do an all inclusive at a nice hotel

I was about to say the same. I can feel what they feel about their canyon not feeling real because I felt the same about the Grand Canyon. Breathtaking, unreal, hard to take in.
If you ever get to go to Kauai again, I highly highly highly recommend the helicopter tour. Was blessed to be able to take it about 25 years ago and it was wonderful! Watching your video brought back so many memories of that trip. Thanks and stay safe.
We loved Kona on our last Hawaii cruise. Our favorite island. One thing I LOVE when in Hawaii is a shaved ice. Most places in the states at least, its not a shaved ice its a snow cone.

Been to Hawaii twice and sailed back to Australia on Radiance of the Seas. Also did Pride of America once. Had the best time ever, freakin love Hawaii. I also love how they care for the reefs and coral, the tour operators need to be applauded for this.

Kauai is the most beautiful place I have been to on this planet, so far. It’s a favorite so we try to go every other year or so. There are still a lot of places I want to see but Kauai is so amazing it just keeps pulling me back. I love that you also loved it ❤
thanks for ringing my memory bells for Hawaii. I think it's been about 25 years since we were there last on a couple of different trips, including a cruise. Waimea Canyon is one of the rainiest places on earth, which is why it is so green and beautiful. I love the island of Kauai, the garden isle, which is where we first learned to snorkel. We are 75 and 82 now so may not get back there, but through your videos I had a wonderful trip.

I love the ABC Stores. I used to go in them all the time. I've been to Hawaii 5 times, I used to work for an airline that flew to HNL and OGG. It's one of my favourite destinations. The Waimea Canyon is one of my favourite spots, it does look like a painting as you say. I am contemplating a cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii in 2025.
Wow! This was spectacular guys! We visited Kauai 5 years ago and have been yearning to go back. If we could afford it, we'd live in Hawaii. Living in L.A. it's just a 6 hour flight away. Hawaii is truly paradise. Ben, how funny you just discovered BenGay. My mother used it back in the '60s for shoulder pain and it's been an American staple since I've been a kid, many years ago. It's also fun to see your POV from a cruising perspective. We always love seeing the cruise ships from our condo. We are cruisers - but sorry - never to Hawaii because when we visit we immerse ourselves in the islands and don't want any limitations on our visit like getting back to the ship on time. You said exactly what I tell people when they'd ask me about Hawaii, Oahu we nickname the mini-mainland because there is a lot going on and lots of city everywhere and while you can find some amazing areas on Oahu, the Hawaii most people have in their mind is one of the outer islands like Maui, Kauai, or Big Island. They're much more laid back and great for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Having stayed in the same cabin, I can attest to the NOISE right above it. Turns out, the room sits right under Onda's kitchen area. Cabins on the 11th deck are great, and close to everything. But if you have the choice, go with deck 10, or deck 11 midship.

I live in Florida, but I was born and raised on Kauai. It will always be home and you shared it so beautifully. It truly is the Garden Island and a very special place.

I’ve been on the Pride of America twice now. First time was for my sons 4th birthday in 2009 & we did again last year for his 17th birthday. Both times were jus fantastic! Glad u guys enjoyed 🤙🏼

Have never cruised Hawaii, but have been fortunate to have visited most of the islands over the years with my family growing up.. Think I mentioned on another of your vlogs that we're going on the transpacific repositioning cruise on quantum of the seas end of April. Unfortunately only one stop in Kona and that's an overnight. Wished they'd stop one other island like Kauai. But not complaining We love sea days and looking forward to the trip from the islands to Vancouver! Great video. It's so gorgeous. I've forgotten It's been too long!
We had a really noisy cabin on a cruise ship a few years ago. We reported the noise and were told it was standard noise that you'd expect on a cruise ship. It was awful. We didn't realise until we got back and posted online about it that someone else who had travelled in the same cabin and had the same problem pointed out that our cabin was directly above the promenade deck door to the smoking area and that it was the doors banging when people went out to smoke.
Hawaii is so beautiful and your vlog was wonderful to stir up memories of our wedding there. I do hope you were able to straighten out the uneccessary noise factor in your cabin; or at least they changed your cabin.
Hey Guys, I love the Spirit (sailed on her 9 times) but haven't had chance since she left Europe. Any road up, as we say in the Black Country, here is a tip for you. Never sail on Deck 11 of the Spirit. ln fact, on any cruisline make sure you book a cabin with cabins above and cabins below if you want a good nights sleep. Deck 10 is my choice everytime.
So I'm watching this series for the second time! LOL! We did a round trip Hawaii cruise from L.A. on the Star Princess in 2017. Best cruise ever! So we decided to do it again in January 2024 on Holland America's Koningsdam out of San Diego for 17 days! Can't wait! 😃
@@bz8047 Omg, Princess was so much better! The Star Princess has a fantastic promenade deck that no other ship can top. Movies Under the Stars was a blast! The people were mature but a lot of fun! The ship was a bit dated but very easy to navigate. We had an extended balcony that was half covered and half exposed - we even brough our own hammock which was lovely. HAL was a a Covid infected cruise. No one washed their hands and my husband and I both contracted Covid before we got back. We're in our 60s and we were by far the youngest people on the ship! LOL. There's nothing wrong with that, except that the people were rude and never excused themselves when they would bump or fall into you. The ship (Koningsdam) was very unpleasant. Low ceilings, no central atrium or meeting place, small staterooms. The Music Walk was very disappointing. Except for the jazz band, the rest of the music was lackluster and uninteresting. We were so looking forward to trying HAL but will likely never cruise with them again.
If you enjoyed that canyon, you should definitely go see the Arizona Grand Canyon -- which is bigger by a factor of 100. I get the same feeling of "this isn't real" standing on the south rim.

We were in the Hawaiian Islands on our Grand Pacific cruise in April. Loved Kauai. We were on a ships excursion and had an amazing driver/guide who was a native of the island. She had amazing stories and told us lots about the "forbidden island" where her grandmother lives. It was to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific as well. Worth the trip. Did you get your room changed? We were under the dining room once, requested a change in room as it was unbearably noisy.

Thank you for taking me back to Hawaii. We were there in October 2012 with the Disney Wonder. They did a 15 day round trip from LA. It was amazing. We did the same road-trip on Kauai and stood at those viewing point at Waimea Canyon and thought it couldn’t be real just like you. It was amazing. And I was so laughing about those chickens and your chicken tacos. Looking forward to see the rest and also to Alaska where we were last year.

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years and somehow NEVER made it over to Kaua'i,. (lived in Kona) I've always regretted not hopping over for a visit, as I went everywhere else in the state. This video brought all that regret back. But great video as usual. :)
I finally made it to Hawaii last year, boarding the POA. The sites are soooooo soothing on the eyes. A trip that is still very vivid in my mind. Am so ready to go back.
We had a sweeping bang at night on Encore. Turns out our room wall was next to the ladie’s lavatory in the Observation Lounge and the cubicle door was swinging open and closed. I had to sneak in at 2 AM to latch the door closed.

My nephew was part of the kitchen staff for 2 years on that ship. he left a year ago. He did enjoy his time but he said he wouldn't do it again.

I love the ABC Stores. I used to go in them all the time. I've been to Hawaii 5 times, I used to work for an airline that flew to HNL and OGG. It's one of my favourite destinations. The Waimea Canyon is one of my favourite spots, it does look like a painting as you say. I am contemplating a cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii in 2025.
Wow! This was spectacular guys! We visited Kauai 5 years ago and have been yearning to go back. If we could afford it, we'd live in Hawaii. Living in L.A. it's just a 6 hour flight away. Hawaii is truly paradise. Ben, how funny you just discovered BenGay. My mother used it back in the '60s for shoulder pain and it's been an American staple since I've been a kid, many years ago. @@ameliaerin1544 I'm not so sure about that. What I have here in Los Angeles would cost me so much more in Hawaii. I'm talking Honolulu, Oahu. I wouldn't live on any of the other islands.
We lived on Big Island in Waikoloa, and it was less expensive then living in La Jolla CA. Only milk and eggs were more expensive. This was 2015-2017.

So fun watching you guys hanging out in my favorite place in the whole world; Kailua-Kona HI (Big Island). That is my favorite of all the Hawaiian Islands. It's also fun to see your POV from a cruising perspective. We always love seeing the cruise ships from our condo. We are cruisers - but sorry - never to Hawaii because when we visit we immerse ourselves in the islands and don't want any limitations on our visit like getting back to the ship on time. However we love cruising so don't get me wrong. Mahalo (thank you) for this delightful visit to Hawaii. I always enjoy you two immensely. Love you guys.

You said exactly what I tell people when they'd ask me about Hawaii, Oahu we nickname the mini-mainland because there is a lot going on and lots of city everywhere and while you can find some amazing areas on Oahu, the Hawaii most people have in their mind is one of the outer islands like Maui, Kauai, or Big Island. They're much more laid back and great for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Having stayed in the same cabin, I can attest to the NOISE right above it. Turns out, the room sits right under Onda's kitchen area. Cabins on the 11th deck are great, and close to everything. But if you have the choice, go with deck 10, or deck 11 midship.

Lived in Hawaii on Oahu in Ewa Beach for several years. Beautiful place, amazing people. Give respect, get respect. Loved the food. My kids learned how to surf there.
I’ve been on the Pride of America twice now. First time was for my sons 4th birthday in 2009 & we did again last year for his 17th birthday. Both times were jus fantastic! Glad u guys enjoyed 🤙🏼

Have never cruised Hawaii, but have been fortunate to have visited most of the islands over the years with my family growing up.. Think I mentioned on another of your vlogs that we're going on the transpacific repositioning cruise on quantum of the seas end of April. Unfortunately only one stop in Kona and that's an overnight. Wished they'd stop one other island like Kauai. But not complaining We love sea days and looking forward to the trip from the islands to Vancouver! Great video. It's so gorgeous. I've forgotten It's been too long!
We had a really noisy cabin on a cruise ship a few years ago. We reported the noise and were told it was standard noise that you'd expect on a cruise ship. It was awful.
We didn't realise until we got back and posted online about it that someone else who had travelled in the same cabin and had the same problem pointed out that our cabin was directly above the promenade deck door to the smoking area and that it was the doors banging when people went out to smoke.
Hawaii is so beautiful and your vlog was wonderful to stir up memories of our wedding there. I do hope you were able to straighten out the uneccessary noise factor in your cabin; or at least they changed your cabin.
We did get it sorted in the end.

Hey Guys, I love the Spirit (sailed on her 9 times) but haven't had chance since she left Europe. Any road up, as we say in the Black Country, here is a tip for you. Never sail on Deck 11 of the Spirit. ln fact, on any cruisline make sure you book a cabin with cabins above and cabins below if you want a good nights sleep. Deck 10 is my choice everytime.

We sailed on the Norwegian Breakaway 6 years ago. It was my birthday ,and we dined in Cagney's. I had the most delicious petite filette mignon!!
So I'm watching this series for the second time! LOL! We did a round trip Hawaii cruise from L.A. on the Star Princess in 2017. Best cruise ever! So we decided to do it again in January 2024 on Holland America's Koningsdam out of San Diego for 17 days! Can't wait! 😃

@@bz8047 Omg, Princess was so much better! The Star Princess has a fantastic promenade deck that no other ship can top. Movies Under the Stars was a blast! The people were mature but a lot of fun! The ship was a bit dated but very easy to navigate. We had an extended balcony that was half covered and half exposed - we even brough our own hammock which was lovely. HAL was a a Covid infected cruise. No one washed their hands and my husband and I both contracted Covid before we got back. We're in our 60s and we were by far the youngest people on the ship! LOL. There's nothing wrong with that, except that the people were rude and never excused themselves when they would bump or fall into you. The ship (Koningsdam) was very unpleasant. Low ceilings, no central atrium or meeting place, small staterooms. The Music Walk was very disappointing. Except for the jazz band, the rest of the music was lackluster and uninteresting. We were so looking forward to trying HAL but will likely never cruise with them again.
Never really wanted to cruise in Hawaii...until now! Thank you!!!!!

If you enjoyed that canyon, you should definitely go see the Arizona Grand Canyon -- which is bigger by a factor of 100. I get the same feeling of "this isn't real" standing on the south rim.

I worked on NCL’s MS Skyward in 85-86 as a deck boy, I was just 17 and 18 years old. Have loved cruise ships ever since 🛳️🚢⚓️ As I am originally from Norway 🇳🇴 myself, NCL is extra special to me, but lived that last 10 years on Tenerife 🇮🇨🏝️☀️🇪🇸

We were in the Hawaiian Islands on our Grand Pacific cruise in April. Loved Kauai. We were on a ships excursion and had an amazing driver/guide who was a native of the island. She had amazing stories and told us lots about the "forbidden island" where her grandmother lives. It was to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific as well. Worth the trip.
Did you get your room changed? We were under the dining room once, requested a change in room as it was unbearably noisy.

Thank you for taking me back to Hawaii. We were there in October 2012 with the Disney Wonder. They did a 15 day round trip from LA. It was amazing. We did the same road-trip on Kauai and stood at those viewing point at Waimea Canyon and thought it couldn’t be real just like you. It was amazing. And I was so laughing about those chickens and your chicken tacos. Looking forward to see the rest and also to Alaska where we were last year.

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years and somehow NEVER made it over to Kaua'i,. (lived in Kona) I've always regretted not hopping over for a visit, as I went everywhere else in the state. This video brought all that regret back. But great video as usual. :)

I finally made it to Hawaii last year, boarding the POA. The sites are soooooo soothing on the eyes. A trip that is still very vivid in my mind. Am so ready to go back.

We had a sweeping bang at night on Encore. Turns out our room wall was next to the ladie’s lavatory in the Observation Lounge and the cubicle door was swinging open and closed. I had to sneak in at 2 AM to latch the door closed.
Specialty coffee is available in the atrium there's a little coffee bar in the atrium and your drink package allows you to get specialty coffee. We never had a problem with the coffee on the spirit I'm surprised you're disappointed.
Hi Nancy that’s been converted into a Starbucks now and drinks packages don’t work there (unless you buy the Starbucks one!)
