My 997.1 S ticks like you describe. I also hear a bit of piston slap when cold only. I have owned it for 10 years with yearly oil changes and the sounds are exactly like they always were. I also get a huge shot of smoke after it's been sitting for a month or so. Oil consumption is a liter after about 2k miles. I will only get it rebuilt if starts getting worse. At the moment it drives perfectly and I just enjoy it. When driving I change down a gear when the oil pressure drops by about 10 percent and as you say I never go over 3 k until the oil temp is near the normal mark. I am not scared to rev to the red line when I feel like it or a dual motor Tesla gets in my way.
You are one smart tech I tell people start the car and let warm up as you drive and keep revs under 3000 but they just don,t get it. It also creats condensation. Not only that price of fuel should stop them from idling .

(It 's ticking quicker when you accelarate)No oil issues.(its full and after 1000 miles still full). It pulls very good in all gears. Waterpomp is changed last week. Help,Help.
Dear Sir, would love to hear your tips. My 986 2.5 1998 had done 225,000km never ticker, but has oil leaked, however i top up oil all the time on top line make sure plenty of oil with weight 5w 40, it never never ticked, until i had my car cam cover removed reseal gasket from the porsche dealer since then ticked but my ticking is not idle as described by you, is when i downshift it ticked, and it doesent happen all the time, only happens when oil is warm up, it wont tick, but as soon as it warms up first down shift by tiptronic i hear tick then that idle right after tick starts. So no ticking during cols start, start ticking after one down shift via tiptronic manual mode, what is the cause? I think the dealer have cleaned the camcover remove a bit of sludge, could those old sludge have helped prevented ticking, my friend seem to think that its the catalyic converters but had check nothing is loose also transmisiion fluid level is good and new. Hi, I recently bought some new spark plugs for my 2007 e92 325i N52B25A. I noticed that the thread on the new spark plug is longer than what is currently in my engine. The new plugs have a 26,5 thread. Is this correct for my engine? As far as I can tell bmw must have updated them at some point.
Flat engine harder to get oil pressure? Springs wear down over time? Let’s rewrite all the texts books, I guess there are mechanics and then there are mechanics
