I have been in an MT mood the last few days and this particular set of 'Birdland' is my favorite. I think at the time they made this, they were at their peak, in the right venue, with the right set of musicians. I don't know how many times I've listened to this over the years. Turn it up!
Just wonderful and superb to see Trist doing a bit of solo work and the fabulous pianist and other young musicians backing them. I know this group will not be travelling as much in future, but it is great to see they still hit the major jazz festivals abroad.
Noticing Tim Hauser, who founded the Manhatten Transfer in 1972, isn't with the group for this performance, I did a little research and found out Hauser passed away in 2014. Curless has a distinctly different style from Hauser, as is most noticeable during his solo at 2:38. Not worse, just different.
Lacks the vocal punch of the original but great arrangement as before ..they very international class in their original form here they are polished but without that extra something
Several of their back-up band now look as though they could be my grandchildren, as I am in the age group of Janis, Cheryl & Alan, Trist being still middle-aged. LOL.
@@олегкрюков-з8д I am thrilled that they are using a blind musician of quality and on the road where it is often difficult to get insurance companies to allow the blind onstage due to all the cables and electrical equipment.

Yes, I agree. Curless DOES sound a lot different than Tim. But I like him. I think he's a decent, if not really good, replacement for Tim.
"Worse?" As in: Hauser was "bad?"
Tim Hauser was great. Nobody can replace him. Certainly not this guy. He can't sing as well, and has no charisma.
I am thrilled

what kind of trap set is that most unusual...
The pianist looks like he's 10 years old!
Oleg Akkuratov was born on October 21, 1989
From birth, Oleg suffers from amaurosis-complete blindness
