I have played this song a lot since I first discovered them in highschool. Something about this song and the way they sang it. I cannot stop listening . Fast-forward 20 plus years. I'm learning to play piano. I am working on playing this song. My piano teacher said I picked the hardest song to learn for a beginner. Lol. The Manhattan transfer, Weather Report and Mr Hendricks. Thanks for this Masterpiece!!!
I've got Manhattan Transfer's first LP, bought the year it came out. I canNOT wait to see them live on the 50th anniversary tour, this week, after decades of listening to everything they released. This Birdland knocks it out of the park!
@joe birle - Prior to forming the group and reforming it and beginning to get jobs around Manhattan's jazz clubs, Tim had been a Madison Avenue marketing executive and then began driving cabs to pay his bills while he founded the group, made an album, reformed the group, and got it all going.
Ich hatte das Vergnügen Manhattan Transfer 1997 live bei Jazz in Marciac zu erleben :-) I had the pleasure to see Manhattan Transfer at Jazz in Marciac in 1997 :-)
wicked band usa band sound's good 42 years later too l have hread alot of bassband playing it did not know about this original with the word's there are very good singers
My first exposure to you guys was precisely that Grammy telecast and you came from the floor and did Birdland at the same time that Chuck Manggione was doing one of his songs. I've been a fan ever since. It would be great to watch the duet again! Cheers
This is an abbreviated version they gave on " Sundays at Pops" with John Williams conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. I so recall watching this! ----------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o
@Juan Antonio Pineyro - The album/performance for which they won that particular Grammy was a 1979 release, so this awards show/performance would then have been in 1980. This is a year after Cheryl Bentyne joined them.
They got a Grammy. Deserved a Nobel prize.

I LOVE their style of music and have kept their music DVD in my music library.
My favorite.

Tim Hauser, a Villanova grad, drove a cab in NY for 12 years before this genius group started.

I wish this video was longer just to hear the applause and to see MT get some appreciation... real artistry...
such joy. fantastic.
Wowwwww
I mean, you don’t see anything like that at The Grammy Awards anymore. A killer live vocal performance with a live band?!
