  • Fingerpicking and lap steel master Ed Gerhard has been wowing audiences for about four decades now, building a solid following around the U.S., Europe, and the Far East with his spellbinding solo instrumental performances and CDs, the most recent of which is calledThere and Gone. That disc is the source of the first of Gerhard’s two contributions to this “Sessions”-a tenderly rendered medley of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and “Across the Universe.” Then, after chatting about his Breedlove Revival Series dreadnought, he whips out a stunningly beautiful myrtle-wood Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel for a stirring version of “Poor Wayfaring Stranger.” Don’t miss it!

Ed Gerhard has been my favorite for many years. I have been priviledged to see him perform live twice, and I sit in the audience with goosebumps galore! If you get the chance to see him live, please do so. But in the meantime, we have these you tube performances and his CD's. Enjoy!

Recently stumbled onto Ed's album Sunnyland. It's the finest acoustic instrumental music I have ever heard.
The tone and expression is unmatched. Compositons and phrasing are also top notch!

Ed Gerhard is just as good as it gets, a tone guru!

"If you put too many notes in there, everything sort of becomes one-dimensional"--Ed Gerhard
(in this video). What a great quote. Fewer notes often give me the feeling of more space, like I'm in the middle of a three-dimensional event.

I looked this video up because I read this fabulous quote, and was unfamiliar with Gerhard: "You start off playing guitars to get girls & end up talking with middle-aged men about your fingernails" - Ed Gerhard

I really like his right-hand tone--reminds me a bit of Hedges. Also the thoughtful approach to these arrangements--melancholic is not a detractor by any means, in my book. :)

Broomsterm, you insipid troll... "I Am A Poor Wayfaring Stranger," is not, as you say, a Hawaiian song. It's an American folk/gospel piece. You haven't a clue, you fraud, because you're only here to troll. Remove your posts and go darken someone else's video, where you haven't already been exposed for what you are, loser.

You came here to troll, and will leave here a troll. It's all you have to offer, aside from made-up nonsense about having met Ed, and attended his concerts. You troll the tune Ed plays on the Weissenborn, and you haven't a clue as to what you're talking about. Why? Because you don't care about the man, the music or the instrument upon which he plays.
So, you glean what little information you can fit into that soft head of yours in order to spin your trolling puke of a post. Plain and simple, yours is the way of the troll: cowardly, ignorant, negative, abusive, UG-LY and above all else, anonymous. And the meatheaded vulgarity you use at the end of your replies to my accusations is entirely typical of a troll's response. Why? Because THAT is what you're here for. Go ahead, loser, and prove me right by regaling us with one more volley of your lowlife, cowardly credo, 'cause that's what trolls do.

I love Ed, but I hate "Imagine" as a song - the lyrics, actually. Some things are worth fighting and dying for.

Schmulzy as usual. No spark, turns every tune into a dirge.

Briliant and boring. What happened to the "fire". ?
