- Showing you how to change the brake pads on a 2019 Honda CB500X. I went with EBC double H pads and they feel great.

Top job.. Like others have said.. I didn't realise how easy it was to change pads. Just about ready to change my front pads. Thank you for sharing 👍
Nice job, man! Got my EBC pads, read through the shop manual, but thought I'd check UA-cam before swapping them out. Very helpful video!!!
Thanks!
It happeded to me to oil brake rotor nicely in my bike once :) One learns instantly :)
There's lots of meat left😆 I just put a set of ebc on as well. I've used 3 galfers in the past. Green,Gold,Black...all junk for heavy off road. The factory Nissin work great in the klr.
Was a lil left;). The EBC pads are awesome. They have a better bite than the stock pads.
thank you! I didn't know it was that simple. I would've removed the whole fromt wheel just to get as much space to work on the pads and caliper 😅😅
😊. No need to do all that;)
Just a bit of advice, yes, pads can be replaced easily without caliber removal, but I do recommend to remove the caliber when time allows and CLEAN as much crud out of it as possible. Cleaning around the pistons with brake cleaner to keep the pistons clean and not get dirt jammed into them causing poor braking performance. It only takes a few minutes.
Always check the washer on the tip of the pin for damage(Replaceif damaged), and dab grease on it. Always remove brake fluid cap to check if fluid removal is necessary while pressing in the piston. Pressing caliper will remove the need for a screwdriver. Always replace caliper bolts if you remove them for a deeper service. Great video, but thought I'd add Honda's recommendations. 👍
You should not depress the piston right away. Just depress a bit to help them fall out. Once the are removed you can clean the piston, then use the screwdrive to slide the piston all the way back in before inserting the new pads.
Good video, very informative. You can typically run them right down to the end of the groove, but for the price why push it!
Yeah that’s what I figured, but I’ve been wanting to try the ebc pads.
Hey, got an issue maybe u can help me, I got a 2020 cb500x and I just changed the back tire to Michelin 80/20 and since then I got a “whooo”noise at 50k up to 65 and from 100km up to 115k.. took it to mechanic that couldn’t find any problem. The noise wasn’t thee before swapping the tire..
Hello my friend can you tell me how Many milles did you make with ebc pleas
Can you do a fishing trip video?
I’d like to see how you would pack the bike for that. Thanks.
Might be able to do something like that. I bring my fishing stuff on most of my camping trips. I just haven’t fished this year.
Will this work on the 2016 model?
Pushing the pistons in without cleaning the caliper first can lead to dirt getting pushed into the caliper. This can lead to leaking piston seals which is gonne be a lot harder to fix than just cleaning the whole thing.
Oooh, you forgot to compare old one with new one.
The old one looks still ok for me, but I am not experienced.
Only one screw to exchange Brake Pads, so easy, I tought that you need to remove whole breake caliper.
I did not fully understand the pumping of brake leverr, did you exchanged breake fluid? Or the brake fluid pressure will go down if thickness of Brake Pad goes low? Or brake fluid pressure gets corrupted if you change the brake pistons position to brake pad with screwdriver?
Thanks for sharing.
The pumping was to get the pressure back up. When you squeeze the pistons back it pushes the fluid back into the revisor. You need to pump that fluid back down into the caliper.
@@OregonMotorcycle Thank you.
Brake cleaner, c'mon, OM! :-P Brake cleaner (comes in an aerosol can) and a fresh green scrubby pad for cleaning the rotors. And the brake cleaner for cleaning the rest of the caliper.
Next time. ;)
Do you know roughly what mileage you had on your bike when you did this? Great tutorial. Thanks 🙂!
10k I think.
@@OregonMotorcycle Thank you for sharing this information.
I would have cleaned the pistons first? To not push the dirty things into the caliper
Good point.
Hi, have you changed your rear brakes yet? I have the exact same bike as yours and the rear brakes absolutely suck on this bike. Do you know if different pads would help. Only have 6000 miles on bike. Thanks

Thanks for the easy how to. At least your video was captured right? you could go back and narrate some of them and fill in with the catchy tunes :) Stay safe brother.
Thanks! Wouldn’t be the same. And I do that sometimes, but don’t like doing so.
Was it worth if you already have fresh organic pads you think? Thanks!
Probably not.
@@OregonMotorcycle Thanks! Time saver! Curiosity always kills the cat haha
Which jacket do you have?
Sedici ADV.
Hello and how many Nm did you apply to the screw to hold the brake pads? ;)
Whatever the manual says 🤣. Tight!
Honda say 13ft lbs
is this procedure as cbr300?
Probably
Good job, easy change. However you mention that WD40 is good for cleaning the chain. This is NOT recommended as it can damage the link seals. I always use paraffin, messy job though!
New rotors?
Nope. I should have said new as in the bike is still pretty new. The rotor is 6 months old as is the fluid.
Aw shoot I hope you figure out the recording stuff!
I will;)
is there a crak in your front alloy or is that just a scratch ?
Probably a scratch. I have a few;). Where exactly is it?
@@OregonMotorcycle 2:30 in your video time frame
No, you should not use mineral spirit to clean brake rotors! It is oily.
Oops. Thanks for the heads up.
Don't forget to bleed the brakes after putting new pads in.
The bike is only 6 months old. Doesn’t need it, but I’m probably going to replace the fluid soon with DOT 5.
I was taught every time you put new pads in, bleed the brakes no matter what the mileage is. Just the way I was taught.
Dot 5 won’t do any benefit
Less hydroscopic, higher boiling point, lower viscosity. All benefits.
You mentioned pushing the fluid back up. It would be best if you never do that to any caliper or wheel cylinder with any bike or vehicle. Consider all fluid that has traveled from the master cylinder through the brake system as dirty and full of gremlins you do not want back in your master cylinder. It would be much better to bleed all old fluid out and top up the master cylinder with appropriate new brake fluid. This will have other benefits beyond not pushing dirty fluid back; like new fluid {From a properly sealed container}has no moisture in it yet from the atmosphere and has the highest boiling point possible.
You said you could not feel anything on the discs. The camera showed very visible wear grooves were evident. I am not sure how you could not feel them. You did not show the fluid in the master cylinder sight glass which I expect would have looked dirty. As I mentioned earlier all that fluid should have been replaced in a good how to video. You are on the right track for bedding the brakes in gently. With the visible grooves it will take quite a few miles of "gentle" brake use to get them close to bedded in. It is worth noting to people that with reduced contact of unevenly worn rotors it is easy to overheat the lesser contact surface with excessive force trying to feel normal stopping effect as before pads replacement. Good video overall. My comments are meant to be helpful and not critical to/of Oregon Motorcycle.
The bike was purchased new about 6 months ago. No need to change the fluid or rotor. I might change the fluid however to increase the performance. Maybe;)
