Hi, my cousin is neurotypical and barely says actual words his always just screaming and full of energy and doesn’t listen to most of what I say he just acts like he can’t hear even though I know he can because he can count out loud 1 to 20 but only when I give him similar objects like beads or sticks.
Do they get better over time?

I'm currently experiencing the same thing with my nephew. He hasn't been diagnosed (we're still waiting to meet with a speech pathologist). He turned 4 in February, and he still doesn't talk as much. He can't answer questions like Alister can, but repeats everything his tablet says. Actually, that's the only way we can communicate with him is by using phrases and songs that his tablet uses. He can comprehend certain commands, but mostly everything else goes over his head. It's odd because when he was 2 he had a wide vocabulary and could sing all day, but as he got older he became more reclusive and I started to notice that he didn't respond to questions, commands, or wouldn't speak in longer sentences on his own like kids do with storytelling. It just sucks because his parents are in denial and don't want to admit to themselves that he might just have ASD. I'm not giving up on him though, he's a brilliant boy and videos like this give me hope.

This kid is clearly intelligent. Looking at him in this video it appears his brain is getting too many messages at the same time like some kind of overload, the messages come in at hyper speed haphazard so he can’t concentrate or slow down. I do believe his neurological system/nerves need slowing down.. so the messages can come in at a normal rate to process. There is research that the vegas nerve can cause this , the nerves should be brought back in line to improve communication.. neurons are the electrical communicators - it makes sense.. and through chiropractors / adjustments of the spine - it may help improve neuro communications and hence speech.

I see no delay lol. My 5 year old does not speak at all in context, only in scripts.
I pray for the day I hear a “Hi daddy”
He can count to 200, even and odd numbers , ABC’s with ease, sing songs, very advanced…but won’t speak to you. I keep trying and never giving up.

This reminds me of my son who’s 4 1/2 and on the spectrum. Similar way of responding to questions with something unrelated but very interesting to him personally 😂 also when my son walked by while I was watching this video, he asked if it was “me when I was younger.” 😂

Question forms can be quite 'oppressive' for some ASD children and I'd suggest that other strategies may be more effective. However try modelled example then question on same context e.g. 'my favourite food is fries, what about you?', then try forced choice with three options (assuming attention and auditory memory is OK) 'my fav food is fries, is you fav food A, B or C?'

This is so much like me at a similar age on hold home vhs tapes. He even looks a bit like I did! My parents never knew there was anything wrong at the time, and I never got a diagnosis as a child. There were certainly some struggles growing up in education and certainly in early adulthood trying to cope in certain workplace environments. Things are pretty good now though, makes me wonder how life would be now had it been identified back then.

He talks a lot more than my 6 year old, he'll only use random single words. Haven't heard him make a complete sentence yet. He makes the same movements and facial expressions as your son, but maybe not quite as severe. He's a little more laid back like his dad lol

My 4 year old has been diagnosed with severe Autism and she is about on the same verbal level as Alistair. Maybe a little improved now since she has been in ASD Preschool for 5 months 🙏🙏🙏 She does not stim though which is why I did not originally think she was Autistic.

    • @DelishaPowell

Severe, like level 3? I wonder how that is determined. I thought that nonverbal was considered severe.

My daughter is 4 years old (born at 34 weeks) She does not stim either. She Echo backs almost everything I say to her. She does have some sort of speech delay. I’ve spoke to her pediatrician and currently waiting to get her into therapy. It worries me because I don’t want her to feel different or self conscience about certain things.

My son is 7 and has all these traits with his speech and at a 3 word sentence if that . We have been going to speech now 2 years and while I see a little improvement don’t think it’s helping him in a way that I thought. Or in a way that he would and I would see improvement. Is this normal am I putting to much expectation on this ?? I am mindful not to put my son with my expectations but rather just keep working and doing what routine we. Have around home school and therapy but just feel like I’m not doing it right or I’m missing something. A y suggestions you can offer please pass on . ❤️

my brother is autistic and im only 13 and he’s 7, I’ve learned so so much about autism from social media and experiences from him im sure you can too! he also had adhd so definitely look into do your son has adhd or autism bc they are very similar, you can search up autism traits and adhd traits and see from there
im also autistic too which I just found out recently and now I think I’m really starting to understand autism more

My 5 year old son saw these and he thought your son was him. They look the same and act the same except my little guy has blue eyes. He's being evaluated for autism and seeing a neurologist for head shape stuff and headaches. He's in partial special Ed in kindergarten and waiting on his Dr to refer him to child study to do mental evaluations and possible speech therapy and stuff. My son also does not or can not dress himself much and I do it. Alot of walking on his toes. But he got his kindergarten assessment and he does good in P.e and the physical stuff is catching up. He can't button his pants, puts shoes on backwards and clothes on backwards or inside out though shown. He cant recall stuff well even though taught and shown. When he was 3 i practiced flash cards with him to name what things he saw A to Z and he names good but cant say the whole alphabet. My son likes watching your sons videos and he fixates on saying stuff. He repeats how his brain tells him this and his brain says to do this or that. Alot of similarities here. Thanks for the videos. My son likes them and praying for both our kiddos. I have schizophrenia as his mother but am otherwise okay actually my dr calls it schizoaffective because i have bi polar to a point also. I take seroquel for that and I take propranolol for anxiety cause by my pineal gland having issues it targets the panic attacks that causes. My psychiatrist said ill have to take them for the rest of my life because it will not heal or go away. Autism improves to but it doesnt go away. I also wake to hallucinations or go to sleep with them and it disorientates me until i realize what is going on. As a child they misdiagnosed me as autistic but i was schizophrenic. And thus diagnosed at the age of 19 i am 30 now. My parents did not allow me to take meds as a child they just delt with it their way. I did have counseling though. Autism and schizophrenia or schizoaffective can be very similar. I tried abilify years ago but it made it worse. Academically I was always fairly ahead except being in special Ed math. I was on a college level by the time I was in 10th grade and as I got older and had my two kids I chose to get my GED in 2017 because I got pregnant at 18 and dropped out to have my daughter. And i hope to pursue college when the kiddos are older to become a veterinary technician. Me and my kiddos love animals. Social situations still get me nervous if in a crowded place. My son shows no signs of that but he shows signs of autism. My daughter who is 11 has ADHD and is in 6th grade and at a 10th grade level. Love them nonetheless though.
