Elvin has a long history too. He played blues guitar with all the greats, including the Butterfield Blues Band. I met him once, a long time ago when I was working at a Kinkos in San Rafael California, in the computer department. I did something for him, and recognized his name. The next day he brought me some homemade strawberry jelly that he had made. Nice guy.
El-vin said they needed a song to fill out the album, so he dug up this old "dog" he had written, they recorded it, and "Fooled Around.... " became his biggest hit!
Elvin Bishop is a great guitarist! Mickey Thomas on vocals. Check out Jefferson Airplane with Mickey, Grace Slick, and Marty Balin. . Miracles is amazing!
Not too many have done "Miracles", would love to see Chod do it. But Mickey joined them later and Marty wrote and sang "Miracles" when they were "Jefferson Starship".
EL VIN Bishop. A great white blues guitarist who played with one of the greatest white blues guitarist in the world. (Michael Bloomfield). The met in Chicago and played in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band together.
Check out the singer's other group- Jefferson Starship- Jane. You also need to check out the live version of this song on The Midnight Special- one of the best live performances ever.
And vice versa. Elvin's song Fishing has "Get that old boy next door To come play his fiddle for us… Send ol Charlie Daniels out for a Couple bottles of Corn Liquor, "
Elvin Bishop never gets the recognition he deserves as one of the great guitarists, this solo is so tasteful and church at the same time. I saw them do this at the Aquarius in North Seattle in 1976, a peak musical moment. Check the live version on Midnight Special.
Elvin Bishop and Michael Bloomfield were the dual guitar players on the first two Paul Butterfield Blues Band albums... two important records in bridging the gap between the great Chicago bluesman and modern audiences in the mid to late 60’s and early 70’s.
Elvin is a legend. He played with George Thorogood, Charlie Daniel's and many others, as well as his own band. I saw him in the mid 80's playing with Delbert McClinton and Charlie Daniel's. They all brought the house down.
Hi Chod- love the dive into the 70s lately. Mickey Thomas is the lead with the Elvin Bishop Group and is underrated singer- he gained prominence when he took over lead vocals from Marty Balin, a phenomenal lead singer in his own right, after he left Jefferson Starship to pursue a solo career. I think you should explore both Marty Balin’s hits with Jefferson Starship; Count On Me, Runaway, Miracles, and With Your Love. In the Late 70s with Mickey Thomas as the lead singer, I would recommend, Find Your Way Back and Jane.
In the mid-60's, Elvin was one of two guitarists (the other was the late, great Mike Bloomfield) in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, one of the finest blues bands of all time.
You’re right man! ABSOLUTELY DEAD NUTS BULLSEYE… I’ve been loving this song since junior high in the 70, and it NEVER occurred to me-but this IS A-PERFECTLY CRAFTED SONG!! Man there ain’t a DAMN NOTE out of place!! Well played Sir! 👊🍾🥂
For years I though this was Steven Bishop. I guessed I heard ...vin Bishop and though the DJ said Steven Bishop. No wonder the voices sounded different. 😆
Elvin Bishop is AWESOME Musician...songwriter ..... and Singer....Excellent!!! Young Lad.....This is real music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and his name is El(L)-vin(v-end) Bishop....not Evil.....lol.......
This song is so unlike most of Elvin's music. After he wrote it he didn't feel his voice was right for it and brought Mickey in to sing it. Most of his songs are party songs, often pretty raucous, and sometimes non-PC and NSFW. Party 'Till The Cows Come Home, Juke Joint Jump, Stealing Watermelons, Fishing, Walking Shoes, Miss Slick... (uh, Bosom?) Boom (about a groupie). His work with Jo Baker was phenomenal. The Pointer Sisters first big break came when they were his backup singers. BTW, he was a National Merit Scholar and majored in Physics before picking up the guitar and earning the nick name Pig Boy.
I wonder if Elvin Bishop and Joe Walsh have ever got together because you’d swear they were cut of the same cloth, awesome guitar player, funny, down to earth, and laid back.
I wish you had reacted to the live version from the midnight special , it was so good. The song was on Alvin bishop’s album. On the song Alvin did a blues solo on guitar. He was from a southern town where he didn’t know any black people but a radio station played blues there and he became hooked . I saw a interview where he said he stayed in the hood playing in different clubs and played with many of the blues greats , more than likely ran into groups such as Led Zeppelin hanging out on the south side of Chicago I lived in those areas but didn’t have a clue who they were then.
I think the guy singing anded up in Jefferson Starship.....a later version of Jefferson Airplane.....correct me if I'm wrong guys.....and Elvin is as usual, great on guitar.
I laughed at the title of evil bishop when it really is Elvin Bishop. Mickey Thomas is a fantastic singer as we would learn when he went on to sing the starship
Just to let you know there is a live version of this song. Fooled Around and Fell In Love. It's Elvin Bishop. . But not him singing Mickey Thomas is singing I believe. One of the greatest songs ever❣️❣️
Bro, now that you reacted to this check out the live version for your own enjoyment! It’s even more soulful and you can watch the expressions. Thanks for the great reaction!
Chod, Peter's (Star Lord's) mom's "mix tape" could've been MINE! I love this song & all the songs on the Guardians of the Galaxy sound track!😍 Mickey Thomas is one of my favorite singers! John Farnham IS my favorite! 🤩 Hope you'll react to ONLY John's LIVE versions! Great reaction! Thank you! By the way, sometimes I can hear the song but can barely hear you. It happens on a lot of reaction channels. This time I could hear you OK though! 😊
Evil Bishop sounds like a great name for a Metal Band. But his name is Elvin.
Elvin Bishop
😆
Did I really hear you call him Evil? lol🤣🤣🤣
@@michaelriffee4526 Wilburn got the rhythm for drummin' but out of sync with names.
Lol
Mickey Thomas has to be THE most underrated singer ever.
I have heard him sing privately and it is astonishing how much volume comes out of such a little guy.
Agreed!
Maybe. Also Robin Zander.
Totally AGREE! This song and Sara, not to mention Jane! Best ever!
Yep
Elvin has a long history too. He played blues guitar with all the greats, including the Butterfield Blues Band. The singer is Mickey Thomas. He fronted Starship with Grace Slick.
Glad you enjoyed this classic!!
Elvin Bishop is the guitar player and Mickey Thomas vocals. Mickey went on to Jefferson Starship.
Fucker can sing like nobody’s biz
This was popular when Elvin Knievel jumped the shark.
YES watch the live version on the Midnight Special. It's awesome!
Was going to same thing. They kill it on that performance.
True, great performance. Better that the this version, in my opinion.
Yep Love This Song
Elvin Bishop is a great guitarist! Mickey Thomas on vocals. Check out Jefferson Airplane with Mickey, Grace Slick, and Marty Balin. . Miracles is amazing!
He also jammed with Jimi Hendrix at the Cafe Au Go Go. in N.Y. in 1968. They jammed for almost an hour.
Not too many have done "Miracles", would love to see Chod do it. But Mickey joined them later and Marty wrote and sang "Miracles" when they were "Jefferson Starship".
Please ignore "We Built This City".
Elvin not Evil !!😂😂
Yep, not sure Elvin would be thrilled to be called Evil.
Need to improve your chicken scratch 😂
Auto correct is a pain sometimes 😖
EL VIN Bishop. A great white blues guitarist who played with one of the greatest white blues guitarist in the world. (Michael Bloomfield). The met in Chicago and played in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band together.
Somewhere, Elvin is having a chuckle.
Check out the singer's other group- Jefferson Starship- Jane. You also need to check out the live version of this song on The Midnight Special- one of the best live performances ever.
I saw this tune performed live 1976 at the Costa Mesa Calif Orange County Fair…. Elvin Bishop- Marshall Tucker Band- The Outlaws….. AWESOME SHOW
One of the best songs of the era. Thanks for finding this and playing it.
The great Mickey Thomas on lead vocals!!
As Charlie Daniels sang regarding Elvin Bishop "... he ain't good lookin' but he sure can play".
Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay
And vice versa. Elvin's song Fishing has
"Get that old boy next door

Started out with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the '60s. 👍👍
-Practically "a legend" from the get-go.
He is a bad-ass. 🤘🤘⚡
I think the evil bishops are dancing to a different tune...
Lol
The band is Elvin Bishop!
Love Mickey Thomas' voice!

You beat me to the Marty Balin songs. I'd ad Be My Lady to the Mickey Thomas songs
@@kustomdeluxe8489 Thanks! I totally forgot that amazing hit. I just played it - appreciate the nostalgia!
What kind of name is Chode?
Loved Marty’s vocals!
@@evanhughes1510 Are you always so rude?
L-VIN Bishop with one of the tastiest guitar solos ever put to record. The great Mickey Thomas on those beautiful vocals. ✌
It has that soulful touch!
Classic! Still one of my all time favorites.
In the mid-60's, Elvin was one of two guitarists (the other was the late, great Mike Bloomfield) in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, one of the finest blues bands of all time.
You should have watched this live ... it's a kick ... their clothes, their movements, etc ... just fun to watch Mickey especially.
Always loved this song ❤️❤️❤️
This song is one of my favorites from back in the day
As close to perfection as art can get.
Pure musical Americana..

Well played Sir! 👊🍾🥂
The live version is awesome as well, "Elvin" is the Guitar lead and band leader and is a force with the ax for years.
CORRECT IT, Chod! Great song, performances. 👍😘🎶🎤🎸🎹🔥💞
Both Mickey Thomas the vocalist and Donny Baldwin, the drummer, eventually went on to play in Jefferson Starship.
For years I though this was Steven Bishop. I guessed I heard ...vin Bishop and though the DJ said Steven Bishop. No wonder the voices sounded different. 😆
Elvin's Rock My Soul (Live) is also terrific!
Evil Bishop, that's pretty funny!🤠🤣
Elvin Bishop is AWESOME Musician...songwriter ..... and Singer....Excellent!!! Young Lad.....This is real music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and his name is El(L)-vin(v-end) Bishop....not Evil.....lol.......
Elvin was in Paul Butterfield Blues Band along with Mike Bloomfield, quite the guitar duo.

Oh I remember this song in the summer with the windows down in boyfriend's car. Special
P.S still laughing at Evil bishop!
Oh that bass !!
And just like that the world was introduced to the great Mickey Thomas.
Midnight Special live version is must!
ELVIN!!!!
... and the world took notice of Mickey Thomas.
Elvin is not evil at all! He just a fun performer and a kickass gutar player, LOL And Mickey Thomas is a helluva singer!
For the record: Elvin Bishop is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
As a member of the Butterfield Blues band.
It's Elvin Bishop, he's the guitarist, the singer is Mickey Thomas excellent singer ❤️
Time for a pair of glasses Chod. The Evil Bishops of this world will not be happy you've exposed them!!
Lol
You should check out the live version. Hearing him sing live is so much better.
Great song
ELVIN!
For me, this has to be one of the top 50 'rock' songs of all time. It's a masterpiece in songwriting, playing and singing.
You should watch the Midnight Special video of this. For live it's pretty close to the pressing.
Elvin definitely wields an evil guitar on this song.
Lol
Love Mickey Thomas voice . Great song
Glad you love this. It's a fantastic song and performance by all.
Good point and keeping this recording as is.
Great tune. Great groove. Glad you seemed to really like it.

Elvin is the guitar player, and he's a pretty funky player. I always liked this song. Mickey knocks it out on vocals too.
I think the guy singing anded up in Jefferson Starship.....a later version of Jefferson Airplane.....correct me if I'm wrong guys.....and Elvin is as usual, great on guitar.
Never thought of Elvin as Evil.
He jammed with Jimi Hendrix at the Cafe Au Go Go in N.Y. in 1968.
Good pick Chod 😊 great to see you enjoy this tune 👌
You need to see the video of the live performance of this song.
Fooled around, and found something better!
I laughed at the title of evil bishop when it really is Elvin Bishop. Mickey Thomas is a fantastic singer as we would learn when he went on to sing the starship

Sammy Johns “Chevy Van” is a great song too. It was popular when this one was.
