Mickey Thomas is the singer in this song. You may remember him with Starship (We Built This City, Sara, Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us Now). Very under appreciated singer!
@@tyson9583 doesn’t mean they can’t do it sometime. It’s more important to start with the recorded version. That way you hear it the way the artist intended it.
Yeah, it didn’t matter what station you were listening to what genre of music you were listening to the quality and quantity of musicianship was off the charts
This song came out in 1975, the year I graduated high school. It was a huge hit then. I always loved this song, and loved your reaction! Thank you! ✌💙✌
The 70’s. WHAT a decade for good times, parties or clubs every week,no one staring into little boxes, just having a damn good time, and of course, music like this made it all easy. Damn I miss those great days.
Yes -- a lot of people think Elvin Bishop is the singer since the song was released under his name. He wrote it and played guitar on it, but Mickey Thomas is the singer.
When you watch the live version of this you see that Mickey Thomas effortlessly delivers this song, even that high note - ridiculously talented vocalist!
Thanks to the movie „The Guardians of the Galaxy“ for the renewed interest in these songs of my youth! The class of 1975 sure had a load of kickass tunes to listen to. Cheers
This song reminds me of my childhood. I was born in 68 and my parents used to take me to the local bars with them and I'd sit at the bar with a bowl of pretzels, a shot glass of maraschino cherries, and a Shirley temple along with a fast stack of quarters to play pinball with everyone adding to them when the stack would run low. Lol, a WAY DIFFERENT time and a LONG LONG time ago😁🫨
Asia & BJ, This reached #3 in the US, his only hit. Elvin on guitar, Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Elvin was in Paul Butterfield Blues Band for their first 4 albums, and they are in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Good song choice. The '70's were a great time for songs like this that have universal appeal. There's something in this song for everybody to like; melody, soul, rhythm, blues, rock and roll, country, etc.
What a Friday morning! You guys react to two of my favorite songs.....this one right here and the Eagles...One of these Nights! Be sure and see both live versions of both songs. The live version on Midnight Special is really, really good of Fooled Around......my best to you guys.
This song reminds me so much of when I met my wife! Such a great song and guitar solo done by Elvin! You guys were right on with your description of the song and exactly how I feel. Thank you! ❤️❤️
********** "Fooled Around" charted in the Top 5 on Billboard in 1976. ELVIN BISHOP, from the LA suburb of Glendale, was an original member of the PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & the Blues Hall of Fame.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song I was 16. I thought WOW. Elvin Bishop's guitar solo is classic, and Thomas' vocals bring it all together perfectly. What a great song.
The lead vocal on this song is Mickey Thomas and was released in 1975....... a banger of a song. It was on the Billboard charts for 17 weeks and peaked at #3. As always, loved your reaction, TY.
Always great to hear songs from back when the CRAFT of songwriting was still a thing. This tune's perfect--from clearly distinguishable verse/bridge/chorus construction to Elvin's perfectly situated guitar solo as well as the build-up to Mickey's BIG high note near the end. Perfect.
Bishop's guitar solo is so simple, but melodic, precise, & so very very tasteful. It's my favorite part of this song. Mickey's voice & the drum fills are 2nd & 3rd.
My mom and dad were great dancers, but they were mesmerizingly cool when they did The Stroll. This song came out when I was in junior high school and I bought the 45 (rpm). I was cranking it up on the stereo and when I went into the kitchen to get something to drink, there they were dancing The Stroll to this across the linoleum. Haha!
Mickey Thomas is the singer ,, he joined up with Jefferson Starship or just Starship by the time he joined the band that use to be Jefferson Airplane ... Elvin was in The Paul Butterflied Blues Band back in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival ..Elvin has tons of great songs . Check out Struttin' My Stuff , he and Mickey both sing on that one
So glad someone suggested this one! It's another of my favorites! Being a kid of the 70s, teen of the 80s was a great time to experience so much great music! Luckily my parents exposed us to all of it from Motown, to country, rock n roll, blues, pop, disco and every other in between, lol.
One of my all time favorite songs. I’m so glad that you chose the “correct” version, the longer, album version. There is a short, chopped version that was for radio play. The entire 2nd verse is missing, and so is the extended guitar solo.
Micky Thompson's voice was a voice very familiar to that generation. He was also the lead for Jefferson Startship for a while and was lead vocal on "Jane"
Hi A & BJ! Love Mickey’s voice, and as others said, he moved to front the old Jefferson Airplane when it changed its name to Jefferson Starship, and eventually jus Starship. My band used to do a song of theirs called ‘Jane’ which is a solid rocker with a great vocal by Mickey… man could he sing !
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS...BY LISTENING TO ELVIN. YOU WOULD THINK HE IS BLACK...HE MIXES ROCK WITH BLUES. BUT WITH A SOULFUL. BUT THIS IS MICKEY THOMAS' VOICE. A GREAT SINGER TOO...GREAT SONG ASIA & B.J AND GREAT REACTION .LOVE YOU GUYS .
Ah, the sounds from my teenage years… we had some great music in the ‘70s! I thought you’d like this one! I’m sorry my request came through as “anonymous”… ❤️❤️
This is why boomers are so critical of today's music..we were extremely blessed to have born in this era...I was 16..when this song came out.. Soulfulness should tickle the soul and move you emotionally... peace y'all ♥️
Elvin Bishop is the bandleader and lead guitarist, and his guitar solo in this song is classic. That great guitar solo was cut in half to make the record more "radio friendly." Now you MUST do his song "Travelin' Shoes" which is actually sung by Elvin.
you both obviously loved that song, but also not just this song , but in all of your posts, when great guitar gets to going, ASIA'S face just lights up, LOVE you both so much, PAPA RAY !!
I love how you guys listen and not talk and you guys are feeling it you’re feeling it. God bless you guys keep it up don’t interrupt, feel it, at the end. Thank you so much I’m a senior citizen man this is my music I get it.
An Okie that got his blues chops in Chicago! Outstanding vocal range in Micky Thomas and just KILLER execution all around. A very underrated and, somewhat, unknown band.....more please?
Mickry Thomas was the vocalist anf he went on ti be the lead vocalist with Grace Slick in Jeffersin Starship. Listen to his vocals on Jane by Jeffersin Starship. He's a tremendous vocalist.
Thats Elvin Bishop on guitar and Mickey Thomas singing🎸🎶 Mickey also sang for Jefferson Starship and they have a song "Jane" thst showcases Mickeys powerful voice, so please listen to it!!🎶🎵🎤
Elvin started out as a blues guitarist from the south who moved to Chicago. He played with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band for awhile before doing solo work and turning to a more southern/country rock sound.
i was 15 yrs old when that song came out ,and fell in love with my wife, every time i saw her my heart would get so excited , damn wish i could go back there , great song loved your reaction to it .
I’ve always heard the fantastic mix of gospel, country and blues with the keyboards guiding. The guitar solo by Elvin Bishop is heartbreaking with that amazing drum rolls and bass thump, it’s got it all. To top it all off with Mickey Thomas effortlessly vocalizing a tormented soul. Always loved this song.
Having grown up in the mid 60's and into the early/mid 70's -- I've got a LOT of great songs in my head. What a time to be alive -- in terms of music. And THIS song is one of my all-time favorites. It's absolutely well crafted and produced. Then when you add Elvin's guitar work and Mickey Thomas's soaring vocals -- you just can't beat it.
Between Elvin's guitar and Mickey's voice I know I'm caught and will never get away! This song never gets old🔥
Yeah but this is the wrong version. The definitive version is the live on the Midnight Special.
Agreed
@Janet F You obviously have great taste in music. Cheers!

The Midnight Special HAS to be done now.
Agreed
mickey was in his 20’s when he sang that, wasn’t he?
Isn't amazing that in 1976 songs like this would just come on the radio. Instant hit. Instant classic.
Yeah, it didn’t matter what station you were listening to what genre of music you were listening to the quality and quantity of musicianship was off the charts
Yeah, I was 9 years old & instantly fell in love with this tune!

Was a good year huh … I too was just fresh outta high school and a whole world to conquer, started going to a lot of concerts.
The whole album is fantastic! I play the same one I bought when it came out on my new turntable
The amazing Mickey Thomas on vocals. He's in his 70's now and can sing just as good. He truly is a marvel.
This song never gets old, timeless classic.
The 70’s.

Aww man yall gotta see the live version (midnight special). The vocalist (Mickey Thomas) sounds even better live!
Yes -- a lot of people think Elvin Bishop is the singer since the song was released under his name. He wrote it and played guitar on it, but Mickey Thomas is the singer.
Yes Yes and Yes!!
Yes! They got to re-watch & react to the live! They need to see it!
Mickey Thomas lead vocals are incredible, he went on to sing for Starship.
I’m 62 years old now, but when I was a teenager and I asked the DJ if he would play it again. He laughed and said I can’t do that. 😂 I love this song.
Right on Stacy. From a fellow traveler. 🤘😎
63 here. Agree with you!
Stacy....same!
I know.....I used to love "Instant Replay" at the nightclub, but the DJ would smile at my request and say "oh no not that again":)

Their version on Midnight Special is one of the best live performances I've ever listened to.
This song is timeless !!!!
I think this song is a hybrid of blues and rockabilly. Definitely a strong vibe with the phenomenal voice of Mickey Thomas leading the way.
Rockabilly??????? Really?
It's more a combination of classic R&B and rock. Also blue-eyed soul.
Yes this is "CLASSIC" and sho'nuf "SOULFUL" to the bone!!!
The live version of this on the Midnight special was outstanding!
Watch the live version as well! You'll see how really good they were, the singing is phenomenal. Mickey had the pipes for sure.
I was 11 or 12 when this song came out. To this day, if I hear it on the radio, I turn it ALL the way up. This song is timeless. Love it! ❤️
Mickey Thomas, the power vocalist of Jefferson Starship is one of the finest of all time & amazing live💪
You need to watch them perform this on the Midnight Special.
One of all time favorites. Mickey Thomas could kill it with the high notes. What a great song. Check out “Jane” by Jefferson Starship. So so good.
Love that jam!
Mickey Thomas’s vocals are legendary! Jefferson Starship’s “ Find Your Way Back”, “Familiar Stranger” and “No Way Out” are more hits 🔥
The slide guitar on this song is sublime.
When Asia breaks out the lip-gloss, you know the song is ❤️🔥
