I don't think Godley and Creme get enough recognition in today's world for the work they did on videos back in the 80s. Lor of it groundbreaking or envelope pushing that rippled through the decades.
Interesting. I wasn't into YES back then. As a grown man in my 50's I appreciate SO many more sounds than I did back then. I liked this sort of thing too, back then though. So I'm not sure why I wasn't into YES
Yes was incredible as well as highly influential across the industry. I miss the days when music was actually performed by skilled musicians with a message
The album this is off of, 1983's 90125, is, for me, one of the best albums of the 80s. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (which you all have done already); ""It Can Happen" (one of my personal all-tome favourite tracks); the instrumental "Cinema" (which is what this version of the band was going to be called before Jon Anderson came back. Just a fantastic album.
90125 was the first CD I bought in 1989, ended up with about 650 before streaming finally took over. Still have them all though, my records are another story. : (
@@brianmcmaster5112 Plus Changes and Our Song. The whole damn album is just great. Saw them in Memphis then and like 89 or 90 also. Amphitheater on MS River Sat nite. The nite before was Jackson Brown. What a weekend.
Definitely the most approachable of all Yes albums. I consider myself a fan, but still there are countless songs on their earlier album that take progressiveness to insane levels and are a little beyond the average listener's ability to enjoy, but on 90125 every track is a great listen.
This was THE song that got me into Yes. I had heard songs like "Seen all Good People," "Roundabout," and "Long Distance Runaround" on the radio, but they didn't really do much for me. Then I heard "Owner of a Lonely Heart," and it was okay. But then I heard this one... and now I own EVERY Yes album, Jon Anderson and Jon & Vangelis solo album, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin album, and more than 50 Rick Wakeman albums... Greatest band with a fantastic catalog.
It's Chris Squire singing the low "Dum"s here, and you can hear the same Dums on the song "Close (To The Edit)" by Art of Noise. Trevor Horn produced "Leave It", and was a member of Art of Noise, and he re-used the Dums.
If I remember correctly, they released this song on April Fools Day and MTVs April Fools was to "World Premier" it over and over with about 18 versions of the video, each slightly different. There is a whole rabbit hole you can go down on the internet about that April Fools Day event.
😮 this a different incarnation of YES 😮 with Trevor Rabin playing guitar 🎸 Trevor used my co-workers Guitar when the new Eastwood soundstage opened on a soundtrack 😮
I highly recommend the 90125 album !!! It opened a new sound of rock n roll . Fresh... positive.. deep... and fun . It's "new school Yes" ....a new chapter of Yes .
This is from the 1983 album "90125". The entire Lp is fantastic. Two others you should listen to from here is "Changes" & "City Of Love," which has a harder edge to it...
YES!! One of my all-time favorites from them! Everything from the harmonies to the high tech music video made this so magical! If you're old enough to remember the MTV days (when they actually played music videos and not reality tv), you'd know how insanely popular this song was. There were so many variations of the video, too. While I was in high school the guys in my choir class did a rendition of Leave it lol.
The production value on this album is absolutely amazing. I'm glad you guys listen with headphones because you can hear so much more of the little intricacies in the production. I just watched a breakdown of Owner of a Lonely Heart and learned that there was wayyyy more stuff going on then I even noticed. The manufacturing of the soundscape is incredible.
The lyrics Yes keeps repeating in the chorus, is, "Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye Bad......Hello. hello Heaven" And a great positive lyric to be in your head. Great reaction. the song, "Leave It" is from the album, "90125" by YES, released in 1983. Most YES fans hate this album....I really like this album. The album is still today their most successful album, selling 3 million copies in the US and the album is a triple-platinum album.
I remember when this first aired on MTV. It was the craziest video that had been created up to that date, and to my knowledge the first music video to use computer manipulated images.
In the 80s, YES did a few albums where they got into doing pop tracks, but they still had all of their musical adventurousness. This one was from the album "90125" .... its a near-perfect album in their 80s style. Any track from it is decent, especially the hits. I highly suggest "Owner of a Lonely Heart" or "Changes" from the "90125" album. They also did "Big Generator" with this same line-up, which leans a little more progressive, but just a little. They also did "Union" and "Talk" in this era, both unique in their own way.
OMG!!! I did the same thang!!! I really think it is the seasonal changes....our bodies have to or takes time to adapt to the change from extreme heat to the cold air....but yeah, man. I slept for 8 or 9 hours and when I woke I didn't seem like I was awake....I have been sleep walking all day long...lol....hahaha....so you guys are doing Yes's "Leave It." Interesting. This song is from their mega hit album "90125", released in 1983. Also, "Owner of A Lonely Heart" was the hit single that became Yes No.1 hit on the Billboard chart for 2 weeks.
This is from their 90125 album, their bold 80’s resurrection with their biggest all time hit: OWNER OF A LONELY HEART. If you haven’t done that song yet, PLEASE do the studio recording. Their official video takes a million years and stops the song over and over, so you completely lose the groove. It’s like torture and extremely curious. 90125 was great with several hits, a distinctive sound like no one before or since. I love this iteration of Yes, very different, but just as appealing as their hippie days. Great reaction! Another great song from 90125 is: CHANGES.
YES - Love Will Find A Way Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes George Michael - Monkey Peter Gabriel - Shock The Monkey Herbie Handcock - Rockit Def Leppard - Stand Up (Kick Love Into Emotion) Culture Club - The Church Of The Poison Mind Newcleus - Jam On It Kriss Kross - Jump, Jump Duran Duran - View To A Kill Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only
Jay, you really should get the album (it's called "90125"), because this is one of those cases where you lose something by listening to individual tracks. On the album, Leave It is preceded by an instumental track called Cinema. When Cinema comes to it's epic end, there's this wonderful pause for a second or two, with a sense of space and anticipation, into which the stripped-down accappella intro of Leave it launches. It's a breathtaking "moment". Speaking of Leave It, there's a song of the same name by Al Stewart which I'm sure you'd like. Very different vibe but very, very good words: Al's a master songwriter and all his tracks are worth checking out really.
I am a weird yes fan I love their classic albums and I also Like this song Tales From Topographic Oceans and Tormato. I like those classic albums and the one's fans don't like
90125 was a huge album with several great songs (but some strange videos that went with them). YES purists didn't like how their sound changed when Trevor Rabin joined the band. I feel that he added a unique and more hard rock oriented guitar and song writing. I love both the old and newer versions of YES. Check out 1994's "Talk" album, the last one with Trevor I believe. "The Calling" "State of Play" "Walls" are good ones. Did you know that Trevor has only made two solo albums? 1989's "Can't Look Away" has several great songs; start with "Something to Hold on To" and ignore the distracting video, just listen to the music. He spends his time doing movie soundtracks these days.
You would LOVE “Changes”, and probably “It Can Happen” too. Those and “Leave It” are off the same album as “Owner of a Lonely Heart”- which you’ve done, but the video was so weird that maybe you forgot lol
Who remembers that the band released 18 different versions of this video on MTV back in the day?
April Fools Day 1984

Yep! We actually turned our tv upside down to watch it correctly on one version!
I remember that very well. Great, fun stuff.
It's one of my favorite Yes songs. Very underrated songs.
Agree this and Changes are very underrated!
Yes was incredible as well as highly influential across the industry. I miss the days when music was actually performed by skilled musicians with a message
The A capella version of this song is one of my favorites.
IT'S THE BEST!!!!!

It Can Happen is the one they should do next.
It is their very best album of all.
90125 was the first CD I bought in 1989, ended up with about 650 before streaming finally took over. Still have them all though, my records are another story. : (

Yes will always surprise you. They sound like no one else.
This was THE song that got me into Yes. I had heard songs like "Seen all Good People," "Roundabout," and "Long Distance Runaround" on the radio, but they didn't really do much for me. I’m glad to hear you are feeling better today! Jay at 75% is still better than most of UA-cam at 100%!
This album, this sound, these voices... ageless.
LOVE YES. Yours is No Disgrace is another gem.
So glad your feeling better Jay. Missed you guys.
Thanks so much for reaction!! Yes is amazing. This is their 80's incarnation. 70's Yes is longer songs and movements.
It's Chris Squire singing the low "Dum"s here, and you can hear the same Dums on the song "Close (To The Edit)" by Art of Noise. Trevor Horn produced "Leave It", and was a member of Art of Noise, and he re-used the Dums.

Changes is one of the best from this album.
‘82- ‘85 MTV really was “I want my MTV.” Connecting with musical groups with visuals. 👍
This was the sound of the 80’s! Everyone was using synthesizer and beats!😍
They opened up with this ‘84 concert and i was front row center standing up Amazing concert Great album!!!
Thank you. I had forgotten about this song, even though it used to be a favorite.
Great harmonics in this song.
I haven't heard this in ages. Great track, I also recommend owner of a lonely heart is also a great record from yes.
Yes has always been amazingly harmonic. As a choir nerd, I love the vocal only version of this. Check it out. It'll blow your mind.
I highly recommend the 90125 album !!! It opened a new sound of rock n roll . Fresh... positive.. deep... and fun . It's "new school Yes" ....a new chapter of Yes .
You really should listen to the acapella version of this song. You can really hear the incredible harmonies that way.
"Yes" is one of my favorites. Can't explain their expertise. Glad they are finally in the Rock hall of Fame. Masters. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
I saw these guys live in the 80s, with Jethro Tull and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. It was wild
This is the "New Wave" addition of a few of The Buggles with Yes less a few players.
We missed you yesterday but you cannot be here everyday! Glad you could be here today! This is an amazing tune! Such art!
Jay &Amber, You'll love their song "Yours Is No Disgrace" and "Close To The Edge!!!
Great song!!
Are they 70s Yes ?
Such a great song. From a great album 90125! Every song so good
Rip Chris Spier (Bass Player) n founding member of Yes!!!
Chris Squire
My favorite YES song. Love it!
Yes rocks!!!!
Seeing Yes in the round was amazing.
Try “hold on@ and changes from Yex in this same 90125 album
Great song from 90125! This video had several different versions as did their single sleeve covers. React to YES classic "Heart Of Sunrise."
The entire "90125" album is fire!
Chris Squire and that bass!
This is from the 1983 album "90125". The entire Lp is fantastic.
Two others you should listen to from here is "Changes" &
"City Of Love," which has a harder edge to it...
IT CAN HAPPEN?? That is an awesome song with a fun video.
@brianmcmaster5112 ~ I liked "It Can Happen," but it wasn't a favorite from the Lp...
This is just making me sing out loud!! ❤
YES!! No pun intended😊 I’m happy you did some 80’s Yes. This one and Changes are my favorites
Oh, MAN!! Hope you're feeling WAY BETTER, TOMORROW!!! LOVE YES!!! THANKS for THIS ONE!!! HUGS, YA'LL!!!
YES the greatest show on earth ✨️🎶✨️
Here's a song by the band Yes that you guys might want to check out, "Love Will Find A Way"
Jay. I hope you’re doing better overall. I’ve been praying for you. Hang in there there brother
Another good Yes song I liked as soon as I heard it!
Speaking of Yes, lead singer Jon Anderson had a solo album in the late 80s. Hope you react soon to Jon's "Hold On To Love".
I don't know where to post this -- but on your movie watch list you have to watch Yentl with amazing songs by Barbra Streisand
Great suggestion 😊

One of my favorite yes songs
The producer of this record was a well known guy from the 80s that liked to experiment with sounds.
I've always loved this one.
Glad you feel better.
I LOVE this song. The acapella version is great too
My favorite Yes track!
Boy, did they over play this on the radio!! Or was it me playing my cassette til it wore out? lol
Wow! This was released 40 years ago! And it still sounds so good!
It's amazing how many similar sounds there are between this song and Beatbox by The Art of Noise, which came out a year later.
This hit #24 on Billboard in early '84
That video was cutting edge state of the art when made. Editing like that was never done before.
Yes has some great songs.
Love and respect to both of y'all... take care!
And it's always great seeing Jay sloooooly start to get into a song's groove.
I remember when this first aired on MTV. It was the craziest video that had been created up to that date, and to my knowledge the first music video to use computer manipulated images.
This should be called Yes version 2.I saw the original Yes in 78.They were the best.
Changes from the same album is another gem...
I especially liked those last few seconds!
YAAAAYYYY. I've been waiting for y'all to give this a listen. 😊
She's shrinking!! Great job!!!!!
"it can happen" and "changes" are also great songs from this album!

voice harmonies ..so nice
Jay, as an aspiring bassist, the bassist for YES is one of rock's top 5 bassist of all time, if not the toppest!
Awesome song, and the special effects were amazing for 1984
Yes, it was a band that kept it's progressive style into a new era. This was from the mid 1980s but still them.
Great seeing that big Jay smile (and Amber's smile of course) lol Great job guys!.
Back when answering machines were a thing the intro was what the caller would hear when they called.
OMG!!! I did the same thang!!! I really think it is the seasonal changes....our bodies have to or takes time to adapt to the change from extreme heat to the cold air....but yeah, man. Such a great song/ great album! I’ve been suggesting this one, yay!
I remember back then the media praised the video for their groundbreaking effects.

90125 is the album. As others have stated here. An awesome album, with some really interesting tracks on it.

Yes is a great band with various top musicians. With drummer Alan White in this time. Check out “Owner of a Lonely Heart’ as well…

The "artistic" half of 10cc (Lol and Creme) conceived and directed t this video. It was revolutionary for it's time!
Glad your feeling better Jay !!
Feel better, dude. Great reaction!
