- New Welsh Government land deal unlocks ‘ambitious future’ for Porthcawl
Huge changes will transform the Porthcawl we have loved for years and change it permanently changing it from all reconcilliation.
Gone is the Famous Fairground as houses are built, The Promeade is going with half the road used for building the other half pedestrian
A huge 900-home development and potentially a new school could transform a large area of Porthcawl under new proposals. The plans will go out for consultation this month after Bridgend Council announced it was seeking views on proposals for its ongoing regeneration of the area.
The houses would be based on almost 20 hectares of land in the Sandy Bay and Griffin Park area which could become part of a major development that would reshape the front of the popular seaside town in the coming years. The council will soon publicise a notice of intention outlining how it intends to appropriate the land and consider any representations that may be received before making a decision.
Under council plans the site, which includes the popular amusement park, will become available for a mixed-use development that would include retail, commercial, recreational, and housing and leisure opportunities. With Griffin Park expanded and approximately 900 homes introduced to the site alongside facilities for new businesses and visitors a new road would also be constructed and there would also either be a new school or expanded educational facilities. It is a development that would run alongside the previously-announced construction of a new Aldi store built on Salt Lake car park’s north side.
Take a last look at the Porthcawl we all love, Big Changes are about to happen, 900 homes to be built in land opposite Eastern Prom, Coney Beach is going to be gone replaced with Apartments, Camper Vans are already not allowed on Eastern Prom with new restrictions throughout the town Eastern Prom is going to be pedestrian I suspect so they can build homes for the rich and make loads of money, Porthcawl we all love is Lost Forever,
got a sneaking feeling porthcawl council is going to do a hatchet job. on porthcawl
Shame on the lot of them!!
I spent many happy days in Porthcawl during the fifties and sixties and change has to happen, but when I visited two years ago, the first time for more than 20 years the promenade was just ugly and the whole place very tired, so sad. I'm in my seventies but it felt like Zimmer frame by Sea. Sorry to have to say that. I was glad to leave.
Are there any tours to this area from London?
best to flatten it all and start again -- eyesore of s wales
Greedy councilors. I probably wont come back and i think many 100s wouldnt either. Why would i want to sit on the beach when people sat in thier houses watching you?? 😢
