I love Wales came here at 13 to live with my Welsh dad from my native American Choctaw nation, had a great Education and people were and are very nice to know lived in the valleys and they always helped each other.
As a Barry boy now living in Llantwit I found this incredibly moving. Recently moved back to the Vale after over 30 years in England. Thanks for you time and patience, I know what effort goes into a project like this. Bless you bach.
I liked the doggie at 1:39. These were really good to see, but I'd have stood in the same spot as the old pictures were taken, or, if impossible, cropped them all so they would overlay perfectly. Thank you for sharing these. One of these days I'm going to have to take a trip to Porthcawl as there's a bench there in honour of a friend of mine who dies two years ago. I'd like to see it. We spent most of our biking life in Porthcawl, Barry and Aberavon in the seventies.
So sad to see the soulless green lawn where the Knap Lido used to be. It was more popular among the locals than Barry Island. It brought so much enjoyment to my generation of kids. I'll never understand why it was allowed to be first neglected, then destroyed.
I was a Nurse in Bridgend when we had the flood on night duty. . A few of us lived in Maesteg. They sent a fire engine to get us over the bridge , as we went over the bridge the shop widows caved in..we started walking home after a 12hr shift. A kind man stopped & got us all into his car. Never forget that..l have lived in Africa for most of my life. All my family are still there..Thanks for the memories. 😊🇿🇦
Brings tears to my eyes , Dowlais boy , born and bred . Now in my seventies , I have good memories of the Golden days industry in the valleys.... Rape of the fair Country ...
Absolutely brilliant, and so glad that lot still remains IE old and new., Do slightly agree with Kayew5492 but so much has changed in our modern world, some for better some for the worst it's inevitable.
Thank you for your comment. Not sure which building you are referring to. ? was it this one The Watch Tower at the Old Harbour Cold Knap, was built c1865, 20 years prior to the Barry Docks being built, and when the village of Barry only had a population of 85. The WatchTower a two storey building constructed from local limestone. Was used to house a lifeboat, which was used before the RNLI lifeboat station was built at the entrance to Barry Docks at the beginning of the century The ground floor extends back under the ground for a distance of approximately 12 foot. Originally there were double doors on the front of the building with a slipway that went straight out to sea.. This was later changed to the side elevation.
Hello Sir! My band and I wrote a song called "Wanna go Home" (we are just starting out), and I think the photos that you did in this video would be great for a video backdrop to our song. I am Welsh - the lead singer, living in Switzerland, and the song is about Wales. Ok to use your photos? I will give you credit of course. We dont make money.. lol we are musicians.
Very nostalgic, thanks for sharing.

Would be great Robert
that music is so depressing
No forced jabs masks , no Gestapo giving fines freedom to go in and out of shops pubs cafes restaurants
Yes, complete freedom to transmit germs, no NHS to pick you up when you got ill or take your taxes, yes those were the good old days.
