I will watch a video of you just sitting and sewing a straight line for 30 min 😂 as long as we get intermissions if Winnie and Pinky too. Sewing the same dress with changes makes it a different dress doesn’t it? I think so!! So YES! Make another one!! P.S. you said it correctly, tiers is pronounced like teers or tears like when you cry.😿 ❤❤❤
Don't tease me or I WILL publish a video of me just straight stitching for 30 min😅 but on a serious note, thank you so much for your comment! ❤️❤️❤️ it honestly cheered me up!
A solution for the pockets would be to use separately-worn pockets, like they did in the 18th century. They tie onto your waist and are worn under your dress (and can be made BIG!). All you would need is some side slits on the dress for access. 🍓
You can never have too much fabric. I am a firm believer in the adage saying “She who dies with the most stuff wins”. And yes, I would watch you make another dress.🍓
Poor Pinky. He used to be the only one handling quality control when you were sewing, and now this crazy Winnie has started climbing the corporate ladder of middle management! 😂 I’m glad my cat is 14 and still the OG, even with all the other animals running around the house. They all have a job, but Ducky is still the first one to test out a dress pattern or quilt sandwich.
Hey frennnnn! The weather patterns have been messed up everywhere. Ugh! I'm here for your sewing explanations. LOL My boy Pinky is back to work! 🥰 The dress is adorable!! And yes, we want to see a version with pockets1 Of course we'll watch another video of this dress! lol 🥰 Sending you and the fam love and hugs!
The fabric you chose is so pretty and the dress came out beautiful! I missed Pinky, he's such a handsome boy 😍! And oh your garden looks amazing, you did a fantastic job with the veggies and flowers. I hope I can also manage to plant veggies in my new place. Taking notes from you... 😉😘😘😘
*Strawberry* The dress is fabulous. Huzzah to getting a summer dress made in summer. Well done and enjoy. And yes, if you want to make a duplicate dress - fabric is the ultimate unknowable in the equation. You're garden is looking fantastic. I agree - winter was yesterday, how did we get to 27 C in a blink of an eye. Are you planning on doing some seed saving for season's end? Also - beer traps might work for the beetles? I adore wild strawberries and raspberries... lucky with the volunteer plant! I have the balcony vegetable patch fully installed - pansies, marigolds, morning glories, 3 types of cherry tomato, cantaloupe, summer squash, lettuce, Swiss chard, peas, beans, pickling cucumbers, decorative flower pot to feed the bees, and a container of grass for the Benevolent Overlords of the place, our two guinea pig girls. Walk onto the balcony and it just... smells good. I even tried setting up a composter with the gp wood shavings - we'll see what happens. The experiment for the year is seeing if I can cultivate and grow black oyster mushrooms. Oh, and a shelf full of herbs... I also lucked out. A longtime neighbour is sharing a garden plot with me at the local community garden (pretty much a duplicate of the balcony, with the addition of peppers and a patch of basil). I have an excuse to walk around and be observed by the local murder of crows. Yay! Needless to say, sewing's not happening at the moment. I miss being able to multitask, lol... Cheers Human. I adore your dress. I think the size of lace you have on the tier gives it a nice, dainty look. The footage of the cat swishing his tail at the dog is very cute. Almost forgot the 🍓(and proud of myself for figuring out how to get the emoji).
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ I am starting to work on the new dress and there will be some minor changes 😀 I hope you'll tune in to the next video!!
One way to keep cats out of your gardens is to mix in some cayenne pepper to the soil, or at least that's what we did to keep them out, anyways. Seemed to always work for us. And shirred summer dresses almost always seem to look good, at least to me. Nicely done.
The dress came out adorable! I actually just zigzag over the shirring thread and adjust later because my machine already has tension issues with normal thread. Another pocket solution: Use some ribbon to stabilize the length of the side seams (stitch in the ditch) and to attach the top of the pocket on the flappy side to the underarm seam. It’ll take the weight much better that way!
🍓I for sure would watch another video where you make adjustments to the pattern to make a second one. Maybe a way to help stabilize the pockets and keep it from pulling and stretching the dress would be to put a bit of waist tape at the sides and have the pocket bags come up to the waist band just so they don’t hang completely from the side. You can see this done on Victorian skirts, they either attached to the waist band also or had a piece of fabric sewn into the top of the pocket bag and then to the waist band to keep it from pulling the skirt down on one side. The garden is looking so pretty! I can’t wait to see it when the flowers start blooming more, I bet it will look so gorgeous so please keep giving us these lil updates in your videos. Maybe you can paint Winny’s “Nanny” so she’ll make a bright and cheerful addition to the garden when she’s off duty.
YES, please make all of the dresses and make videos about all of them! i absolutely love how this sunny yellow gingham dress turned out--you look like a cottagecore princess! :)
Loved the garden, love the dress, would watch another video about the same dress! It might also look really cute turned into a 2 piece outfit (bodice and sleeves, elasticated tiered skirt) if you wanted to mix things up both for the channel and also to have some matching separates for your wardrobe. 🍓
Lovely dress! I love repetition, so happy to watch it all over again in different colour. And I need to do tiered dress for summer too, they are haunting me on my fav sewing youtubers 🥰 🍓
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ I hope you'll make a tiered dress too! They are so effortlessly flattering (and comfy!) 🤩 Btw, are you a slavic girl too? 🤗❤️
The ominous silence really adds some dramatic tension as you complete the dress. Also don't forget that welt pockets are always an option. If you can't hide it, show it off.
hahahaha! Omg, that's so true 😂(and embarrassing!) Yt has copyrighted songs on my last two videos that I do have a licence for. with previous videos, I made a dispute and I am still waiting for the result. Which means I am not getting paid for those videos. With this one, I decided to mute the song but it muted alllllllll sound instead. I might have to reupload this video. It's embarrassing for me as a creator, but... well. There is nothing for it. I am so sorry to you guys for putting up with me climbing the steep learning curve of YT 😅
Beautiful dress! I would love to make one like that. I'm always baffled by the way have an idea for something... and then you just create it! Magic! I would be happy to watch another video of you making another of these dresses - although I am normally a yes to pockets, I vote no pockets on this particular dress as I think the stretching would be a problem. Great video, sending best wishes!
Aww! Thank you so much for your lovely comment!😀❤️❤️I often see dresses that I dream about suddenly popping up on Pinterest and social media. It's like we all collectively get the same ideas around the same time. 😀
Not quite my style but the dress turned out nicely. I'm glad that Pinkie supervised from the sofa. Poor Winnie can't do the desk. I am.currently working on a black Ponte Dr Roma skirt. Am adding side seam.pockets to it. I will make the pocket.pattern from tag board as a permanent pattern. Loved what you did with the gardening. Looks great! My sewing had to stop because of Pepper's two week long labor. Couldn't get her a C-SECTION because I only had half of the fee to pay immediately. All 7 babies were born dead. Three were super tiny and not fully formed, A set of conjoined twins and the others looked like Pepper or Sabrina. Sabrina turned out to be a hermaphodite. She is now neutered but also needs spaying along with Pepper. For a week after she had t in e babies, Pepper would cry and wrap her arms around us as we held her. She still cries some and Sabrina goes to her and grooms her and wraps her and around Pepper. Disappointed parents. Its odd to see Pepper like Sabrina now. Jorgen is arrived two days ago. He will stay until the end of July. Today is 36 degrees outside and Jorgen hates it. It should get to 45 soon. He helps me with pinning and cutting fabric. I will make three pairs each of jeans and trousers for Jorgen. He says the only pants that doesn't wear out fast ate what I've made for him. Sewing goes a lot faster when Jorgen is doing the pinning and cutting.
Hello Susan, I am so so so sorry to hear about Pepper and her kittens. This is such a heartbreaking situation to be in. I am glad you have Jorgen to help you through this. He sounds like a really sweet man🤗 and haha yeah, my norwegian man cannot stand the temperatures above 22 degrees celsius either. These guys might have the antifreeze running in their veins, but they do not deal well with warm weather 😂 I am sending you a big hug and best wishes to Pepper and Sabrina ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope Pepper will feel better soon ❤️
Your garden is wonderful. I’m jealous of your dahlias! Those critters are called Japanese beetles here in the US. They’re not good but a pheromone trap or two will make quick work of them and if you have a neighbor with chickens, they’ll make an excellent snack.
oh, thank you so much! Garden lovers unite!😀❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for letting me know about the name of the beetle. That was so helpful of you! I will google how to make or where to get a pheromone trap 😀
@@MarlenasewingNo problem! It’s just amazing you have so much already and you’re in Norway! I’m in the US and we just have strawberries. Everything else still needs time. Hopefully the traps are available where you are. I purchased mine on Amazon. They were inexpensive and easy to set up. Good luck!!

Uuuuu, you're right, a coral pink dress would be lovely!!😍 I will search for both mint green and coral pink fabrics on my next shopping trip! Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️ 🤗❤️
I love the dress! Do you plan to post a pattern for it? I normally don't gravitate towards "cottagecore" dresses, but this one seems soo comfortable! ♥🍓
🍓…your dress is gorgeous Marlena…and the best thing is you can make more with slight changes and wear them all Summer…I have one particular dress in different colours and they are my go to every day in Summer 🌺…where I live it regularly gets to the high 30*C so they are the best…🇦🇺🥰
Thank you so much, Kayte! I am trying to recover after being a bit exhausted the last few months. I hope it doesn't show too much in the videos 🙈 although, the dirty t-shirt in this video probably gave me away😂 The sunshine helps, so I hope to be back in my game soon. Thank you so much for watching my videos and being a wonderful human being! My sewing gang wouldn't be the same without you! ❤️❤️❤️
@@Marlenasewing please rest, your health is important. I would not have been able to tell, because you're always beautiful. 😊 I love your videos, especially right now because I have to be done with a giant sewing project by this Saturday and I'm barely even done. That being said, your content is so good and makes me feel not so alone. You're doing great, and I believe in you! 💕
I've watched plenty of creators riff off a thing they made before, either in the "fixing mistakes" or "I love the previous one, let's add upgrades on this new one" sense. I'm wondering if the dress would still sag if there was a piece of twill tape sewn along the side seams to prevent vertical stretch. Either that, or do what I accidentally did and make pockets that are anchored to waist at the back piece and the front piece, as well as three seams of a paneled skirt. 🍓
Thank you so much for your comment!❤️ no problem, I can go into more details about smocking. Although, I am not the best at explaining things, so please don't have too high expectations for the next video 🙈😅
Sorry couldn't find a strawberry so am sending a ❤ instead. This is another wonderful dress that you have made and I agree about the pockets pulling shirred dresses out of shape, but what about a pocket you can tie on on the outside, like a apron but nicer with some lace or embroidery on it. Just a thought. Love and kisses to the furbabies ❤❤
🍓 Did I get the correct fruit? The embarrassment if I didn’t! The yellow gingham dress is beautiful and suits you very well. Another one wouldn’t hurt, although to be honest you could post a video of you watching paint dry and I’d tune in. Nice bonus cat, dog and garden material too. 🙂
hahaha! Richard! At this point, making me smile and laugh is your part time job😂❤️ Please don't tease me or I will post a video of me watching paint dry and it will be your fault! 😂 Btw, my oldest uncle is also called Richard, so I love your name ❤️ we spell it Ryszard in my native language😅
Aaaw! So good to see you, Cindy! ❤️ sewing for warmer weather is just the best! My favourite time of the year 😃 I should probably sew a bathing suit similar to the one you made recently! 4🤩 thank you so much for stopping by!
So beautiful! 😍❤ made a similar dress like your and I wanted the sleeves to be like your but I didn't managed to fixed that (did only cut out rectangles to the dress). Did you just cut out the sleeves from another pattern, adding elastic band and hem? Would love to se another video btw! 🥰
Oh, I am so glad you say that! I always thought that yellow looks horrible on me. I wanted to give it a go with a bright shade of yellow this time. Your comment makes me glad I took the risk 😀❤️ thank you! 🤗
Hey Marlena. The dress turned out very nice 😊. Why don't you put the pockets on the dress, instead of inserting them into the sideseems. Pros: no seem ripping, and you can tell it's a stylechoice 😉. Same with the bow. You cam add loops to the side seems. This way you can adjust the bow and knot it in the front/back/around, or go without and add a belt. Love your videos and vibe. Cuddles to Winnie and Pinky❤
Hello Franziska! Why is your comment so genius?! 😀 is it even allowed to be this smart and creative?! 😍 Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️🤗 I will definitely take the idea of the sewn-on pockets on board for the next dress!
Ohhh. Thank you. 😊I've come a loooong way (30years while being only 36years😂😂😂) to find ways of turning "mistakes" into features.eyspecially in sewing, painting and all kinds of crafting. And almost every time it turns out much more interesting than planned. That's the superpower of creativity.

beautiful!Dress and garden xx
Aww, thank you so much! I'm sending some hugs and belly scratches to Wolfgang! ❤️
Darling Marlena, wonderful video. I'd love to see another dress, perhaps in mint green or coral pink?
Kisses from London.
Uuuuu, you're right, a coral pink dress would be lovely!!😍 I will search for both mint green and coral pink fabrics on my next shopping trip!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️ 🤗❤️
That dress was so pretty. Thank you so much for the garden update too. ❤️🍓❤
Aww! Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️ and for watching!!😀❤️❤️
I love the dress! Do you plan to post a pattern for it? I normally don't gravitate towards "cottagecore" dresses, but this one seems soo comfortable! ♥🍓
Would you really like a pattern for it? 😀 I would definitely consider it! I can honestly say this is the most comfy dress I ever made😀
🍓…your dress is gorgeous Marlena…and the best thing is you can make more with slight changes and wear them all Summer…I have one particular dress in different colours and they are my go to every day in Summer 🌺…where I live it regularly gets to the high 30*C so they are the best…🇦🇺🥰
I am so jealous of everyone living in warm climate! 😀Thank you so much for your lovely comment!🥹❤️❤️
Such a lovely dress 🎀
Thank you so much! 😊
I would totally watch more dresses, but hopefully one with pockets one day? I hope you're doing well! 🍓
I love your videos, especially right now because I have to be done with a giant sewing project by this Saturday and I'm barely even done. That being said, your content is so good and makes me feel not so alone.
You're doing great, and I believe in you! 💕
I'd watch a second version!
🍓I love your garden! Mine is growing, too, and it's so exciting!
Yes. Make another one.
Your wish is my command! ❤️❤️🤗
Perhaps make a cutsy apron with pockets
Hello! You are the second person to suggest it, so I am officially putting it on a list of future projects!! 🤗❤️
Thank you so much for your comment!❤️
I've watched plenty of creators riff off a thing they made before, either in the "fixing mistakes" or "I love the previous one, let's add upgrades on this new one" sense.
I'm wondering if the dress would still sag if there was a piece of twill tape sewn along the side seams to prevent vertical stretch. Either that, or do what I accidentally did and make pockets that are anchored to waist at the back piece and the front piece, as well as three seams of a paneled skirt. 🍓
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️😀 I love all the ideas you shared! 😀❤️❤️❤️
Always a pleasure to see your video, thanks for sharing
Aww, Thank you so much!❤️ It's always a pleasure to see you in my comments! You're the best!❤️
This is gorgeous. I would definitely watch another video of this dress with some changes. It wouldn't really be the same dress.
haha you're so right! If I change anything, it will be a different dress 😅❤️Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! ❤️🤗
I would definitely watch another video. A request please to show more of how you do the smocking?
Thank you so much for your comment!❤️ no problem, I can go into more details about smocking. Although, I am not the best at explaining things, so please don't have too high expectations for the next video 🙈😅
Sorry couldn't find a strawberry so am sending a ❤ instead. This is another wonderful dress that you have made and I agree about the pockets pulling shirred dresses out of shape, but what about a pocket you can tie on on the outside, like a apron but nicer with some lace or embroidery on it. Just a thought. Love and kisses to the furbabies ❤❤
Oh my goodness! Your comment just gave me an idea for another project! Thank you so much!😀❤️❤️❤️🤗
🍓 Did I get the correct fruit? The embarrassment if I didn’t!
The yellow gingham dress is beautiful and suits you very well. Another one wouldn’t hurt, although to be honest you could post a video of you watching paint dry and I’d tune in.
Nice bonus cat, dog and garden material too. 🙂
hahaha! Richard! At this point, making me smile and laugh is your part time job😂❤️
Please don't tease me or I will post a video of me watching paint dry and it will be your fault! 😂
Btw, my oldest uncle is also called Richard, so I love your name ❤️ we spell it Ryszard in my native language😅
@@Marlenasewing Richards get everywhere. It’s a big club. 🙂
Have an excellent week.
yay! living for your summer sewing 🌤️🌻 and i love the garden. the teeny tiny strawberries are so cute!🥰
Aaaw! So good to see you, Cindy! ❤️ sewing for warmer weather is just the best! My favourite time of the year 😃 I should probably sew a bathing suit similar to the one you made recently! 4🤩 thank you so much for stopping by!
@@Marlenasewing oooh that would be so fun! i’d love to see you make a swimsuit 🫶❤️
It's so beautiful! You're making me want to make more shirred dresses, but also, I've already got three!
Hahahaah there is no satisfactory number of shirred dresses! We need more😂❤️ Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️
Absolutely 😊
Thank you so much for your comment ❤️
So beautiful! 😍❤ made a similar dress like your and I wanted the sleeves to be like your but I didn't managed to fixed that (did only cut out rectangles to the dress). Did you just cut out the sleeves from another pattern, adding elastic band and hem? Would love to se another video btw! 🥰
So beautiful!! I absolutely love your dress!! 💕💕💕
Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️
Super cute dress, and the colour is perfect for you
Oh, I am so glad you say that! I always thought that yellow looks horrible on me. I wanted to give it a go with a bright shade of yellow this time. Your comment makes me glad I took the risk 😀❤️ thank you! 🤗
Beautiful ❤
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️
Thank you so much for your comment!
Ahhh so pretty 😍😍😍🔥
Adorable 🍓
Aww! Thank you so much for watching the whole thing! ❤️❤️
Patch pocket like the 1950's dresses? Play with the direction of pattern?
I love your ideas! Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️🤗
🍓 I love the dress. I wish my machine like shirring, instead it throws a fit and ruins it.
Thank you so much for your comment!❤️ ohh my goodness, I feel your pain! My vintage singer hates shirring for some reason too. I wasn't able to make it do any shirring and had to sew on my Brother machine. I hope you'll be able to figure out the solution. If you do, please share it with me in the comments! 🤗
I would watch you make a similar dress.
Thank you so much! 😀❤️🤗 I really appreciate your comment!

MARLENA!
Andy!!!!❤️❤️❤️ Hello! I hope all is well with you! I see there are some changes on your channel (or do you have two channels?) 😀
@@Marlenasewing Heyyyy! So good to hear from you! Yeah, I'm going to leave this channel more for the photography/videography talk - I'll probably make a separate channel for content marketing/youtube stuff. It was just confusing everyone. Ha ha.
I would watch you make anything
new subscriber, how old is your furbaby? she is soooo cute!
Hello and welcome to our Sewing Gang! 😀❤️❤️ Winnie is almost 9 months old now! He was 7 or 8 months old in this video 🥹🥹

not to be dramatic but I would die for Winnie 😭
Awwwwwww!!!💔💔💔💔 Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️and please keep your fingers crossed for him. He will have to have some of his baby teeth removed under anesthesia. I am so scared of it. I am currently waiting for a call from the vet clinic to make an appointment for him. I hope all will be well.

I envy your shirring. I cannot make it work😢
oh no, really? I feel your pain! I made some swatches and I couldn't make it work on my vintage Singer. It was much easier on my Brother machine. I'm not sure why. I hope you'll find a solution, because shirred garments are sooooo comfortable! Good luck🤗❤️☘️
