Forget Athleisure, Cottagecore Everyday Dresses is where it’s at.
Ok so My Dad just wanted to say it’s Really lovely to see a fellow Anaesthetist with a keen interest in historical fashion/costuming, and history. He doesn’t entirely understand online communities work, but his hearts in the right place.😄
Oh that's so cool! Tell him thank you so much and I hope the recent changes in the industry haven't been making things tough on him!! (The takeovers by Private Equity are why I've been moving so much)
argh!! much love to you--hope things stay settled for you and your lovely family, dear one! @@Sewstine
@@Sewstine He says thank you, that’s really lovely, he also said I probably should have mentioned we’re in Australia (that’s my bad sorry), however he wanted to send you his best wishes, and he hopes that the situation improves for yourself and your colleagues, although the situation is a little different over hear (we definitely have our own issues ) he empathises with the situation, and he’s rooting for you 😊
That tip of sewing cuff buttons with elastic is just brilliant! Perfect for a lazy lady such as myself.
I have seen a similar hack with sleeve ties from the closet historian - make the middle couple inches of the sleeve tie ribbon elastic, the part that is hidden in the channel. Tie to a comfortable snugness (and put a stitch in it if you want. The elastic allows you to take the sleeve on and off without untying. Definitely going to try the button version too!
A Pikachu-endorsed video. Yay😊
Haha! Random Pikachu helping out during sewing :D
Hahaha my son had fun with that one.
Why the 1840s?
Because those dresses are just gorgeous. And your dress is not different: simply gorgeous.
You always make such pretty dresses. I particularly like that you make every day use dresses with the same care that you make the historically accurate ones.🎉 Chef kiss
can't wait for the strawberry dress! I adore those illustrations so much, my maximalism artist heart skips a beat every time I see a new one
The 1840s is one of my favourite eras. Thanks for the information about cartridge pleats not holding up well to machine washing!
I’m glad your head hasn’t exploded form how busy you were last year.
Hurray! Sewstine!
Omgosh I just love, love, love how cute this turned out! I live your idea for buttons. I wish i had thought of that.muself. I just made a Mideval cotehardie/ kirtle with only about a million 1/4'' imbuttons. I though i was being mazy by using button hole tape. Your idea takes the cake. Next time. The best part of the video was the Pokémon toy photo bomb. Too cute. I think your little guy needs to do some more photo bombing in the future 😉
Thank you!! lol I’ll ask him if he wants to pop in himself next time!
George R. is rocking that Porgcore look.
LOL!!! :D
Omg this turned out so cute!! Love the color and the sleeves! The future projects sound like so much fun! cant wait to watch them 🥳
Cute! I feel you when you said you need more wearable historically inspired clothes. I have so many “costume” tupe stuff I’ve made that I definitely can’t wear. I recently made a 1810 short stay which I made into a dress by adding a pleated skirt. It’s so unique and cute! Idk if you’re interested in regency, but I think that would look nice on you.
Knightley is a member of my favourite dog breed. The 1840s cottage core dress has strong Bronte Sisters vibe. Will we get a new home tour? Looking forward to the Queen Astraea Worth gown project vlogs. How are Matthew and Malcolm?
She’s baaack!!! 🎉😇
The dress looks so cute, comfy and most of all twirly! I sure hope your most recent move went well though! Moving so often sounds stressful
Sarah Spaceman did the Sachiko strawberry dress too!
Love the dress. And I'm so excited for your upcoming stuff
💖👑👑💖🎬📽🎥👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼l love your Channel Thank you for all the work you do has a Doctor and for makeing this channel .l have watched all your Videos while recovering from cancer .sawstine you are a inspiration to us all 😊
Oh my goodness - thank you so much for the kind note! Best of luck with your recovery!!
LOL! I'm laughing at your husband dropping in with a Pokeman character while you're sewing! LOL!
Whoever was playing with Pikachu at 6:00 is adorable!
The dress turned out so cute! I love the addition of the petticoat.
Thank you! I feel like petticoats make every dress just better!
Gorgeous colour and fabric and design. Love the way the skirt moves. The perfect blend of historical detail with a modern twist.
im glad pikachu was able to help supervise 😂
That dress looks amazing!
I was distracted by both Knightley and the penguin(?) bookends on your shelf, where did you get them????
Hi! the bookends were from Temu! I hope you can still find them!
It looks so cute! I always love seeing cottagecore fashion videos and how everyone interprets it. I'm really starting to like the way the pleats on the bodice of 1840s gowns look. It gives the dresses a nice effect.
Thank you! Yes! I love the gathers because it feels like a nice "cottagecore" way of adding visual interest in a simple way.
I love the 1840s aesthetic. It is one of the eras that suit me.
Yes! I feel like it's SUCH a flattering silhouette on almost everyone!
I do button loops out of elastic for the same reason. 😊
As a lover of 1840s and cottagecore I can't explain how excited I was to see this video!!
Ahhh! Thank you! I'm so glad someone else loves the 1840s!
Love your video. But, I'm wondering, where do you get your shoes? I'm looking in the wrong place, bc I can't find this stlye. 😢
A peeking Pikachu! 💛💛💛
😭🩷🩷🩷🩷 your projects always make me want to draw dresses better asjdbjhcd I love the upcoming one too 💗💗💗
Ooooh, I'll try to remember that elastic tip! It'd be nice to be able to wear things with cuff buttons even on days when my joints hate me 🥹
I have the black snail pattern that I used for a play I was in, I really loved making it and found the instructions very clear. I think you've inspired me to convert it. All your tips are great but the very best one for me is, I think, the circle skirt idea. Thank you.
My 1840s dresses, both historical and modern, are made of my altered basic bodice sloper with the iconic back seaming since the pointed waist isnt all that flattering to my figure so I settled for a straight waist. Skirts are pleated rectangles and my dresses are all evening dresses actually so its a bit more open but I just made the neckline be on my shoulders since I need some support since I am not wearing a corset (because I have no 1840s corset) so I’m needing some shoulder support. I find knife pleats better for my needs especially since I wear both the historical and modern versions in my school as my everyday clothes.
For the record I've never had a problem with flatlining seams chafing. I made McCalls M4548 altered to make it less inauthentic, which included adding a flatlining. I don't have proper undergarments right now so I just wear it with modern ones. The lining was a weird remnant that was heavier than quilting cotton but lighter than twil. Unless your fabric is pretty coarse I don't think it will be an issue.
So stinking cute❤I have a similar “historical “ pattern I think I could modify for this
Can’t wait for the next projects! Sakizo‘s stuff is amazing and I‘m sure you will turn it into a wonderful piece!!
Thank you! I'm excited for this one!!
I used to walk past the house in the thumbnail every day walking my dog, it's so pretty in real life 😭
did you sew the green dress you're wearing in the talking parts of the video? if yes i would love to know what specific pattern it was. or if it's bought where you got it. looks so good!
What kind of washing machine do you have? A front loading or a top loading one?
Front loading ones are way gentler on cloths
Puppy TTTTTTT
Great video. Did you hang your skirt for the bias hem to drop? Can’t tell in the twirling but it looks like it may be longer on one side.
You look so wonderfully doll-like in your felicity dress!!
Very cute! Looks like an amalgamation of many decades.
Absolutely beautiful work, as always. The colour is perfect and the petticoat gives it just the right amount of floof.
This year I want to make an everyday wardrobe for myself. Love your cottagecore contributions to the inspiration board in my head.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Thank you so much!! I always so appreciate your comments on my videos! I hope you make it - it honestly makes me so happy to go out and wear my own homemade wardrobe that fits so well. But it's a privilege since it takes so much time and money to make!
@@Sewstine Thanks, Human! Always glad to see your process.
For me, at the moment, the fall down go boom is the time and the physical space. We're in the process of downsizing so our apartment has been in a state of dismantled for a while and will be for the foreseeable (le sigh). I'm compensating by teaching myself how to tat lace and weave bobbin lace. If I can't sew for the next while, at least I can see if I can make something pretty to sew to the outfits...
Nothing in the world beats something that was built to fit the body you're walking around in. Well done, you.
I wish I could use linen, here it costs 5 to 10 times what synthetic or cotton-based fabrics cost
Your videos are amazing, I love them ❤️❤️❤️
I love your everyday cottagecore outfits!!! So gorgeous!!
Loved the dress, looking forward to celestial dress videos! 🥰 You have settled in my home town, Chicago! I relocated to Arizona about 15 years ago…. Better weather here Sewstine! 😎
hahaha! Yes i agree! Moving to Chicago in January was ROUGH.
@@Sewstine yes rough, walking down Michigan avenue to get to work and getting blown across the street. Stay vigilant , Chicago isn’t as safe as it used to be, no matter where you live. Looking forward to your next video. 🥰
Romola Gorai and Mia Wasikowska could’ve been spiritual successors to Keira Knightley because both of them were in amazing costume dramas.
I love cottage core. The dress is beautiful 😊
10:35 is that tape measure still in the packaging?
Do you think she’d sell the patterns to other people I would love to have one
Okay but the black linen dress tho!
It is absolutely gorgeous. Well done.
I was just wondering how you're doing!
Hahaha! It's been crazy - it's why my January video is 10 days late. But I'm still having fun and am intentionally keeping things low key while I move. Thank you for asking!
I'm glad that you are doing well! And I am looking forward to seeing what shenanigans are yet to come!
I also have a deep love affair with Lennon and I think it was mostly inspired by you all when 2020 happened and we all were baking bread and remembering that we love sewing. Lol
I'm currently working on the Aria dress With the Pacific blue linen from The Fabric Store!
so cute, thank you for sharing!
The old big house(first house) will be miss 😢
The dress turned out so beautiful
The circle skirt is inspired. Looks gorgeous. What is the mint dress you are wearing. Gorgeous ❤
Hi! The dress is from linennaive.com ; they make amazing linen dresses! (Use code sewstine for 10% off btw!)
I love the color! Nice cameos too
peka peka love the dress
the peeking pikachu got me
hooray--you're back!! i love 1840s fashion, and i love seeing you add to your wardrobe. that said, i can't wait to see the strawberry dress and the worth gown and everything else you make! the marie antoinette-era fashion, though, is probably my favorite...!
Lovely vlog! Lovely doggie! King Charles Cavalier? Handsome fellow! Hope you and family are well! Thanks for sharing as always!❤
I can not stress enough how much I love how thorough you are in the description area of your videos. You list everything. Absolutely everything. And I love you so much for that. Keep up the amazing work!🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
So very practical, pretty, and love the color! It's strangely gratifying to see someone else has to pick out stiches from a 'oh this is automatically how I do it"! So grateful you're still doing you whilst all the upheaval in your life. Long time follower still envious of your $$$ embroidery machines 😍😍😍🤗
Obsessed! I've had this exact idea on my list for a couple years now! Although I was going to use a butterick pattern because I just cannot draft!😅
I love this so much
I apologize in advance Sewstine if this has been said over and over but do you have a youtube video on the dress you are wearing in this video?
I've seen you wear the dress in other videos and in different colors and it looks so beautiful. It's so simple yet elegant and it looks so comfortable.
Hi! Thank you so much! I am actually wearing a dress from Linennaive - I think the one you’re talking about is the Osmanthus. (Use code Sewstine for 10% off) if you look in the descriptions, I will usually write where I got the outfit. :D
@@Sewstine ahhh thank you so much for replying
I’ll check in the description in the future! I usually never see anything in there in other creator videos so I didn’t think to
I’m looking at the online store right now and there’s so much good stuff
You always make the most wonderful gorgeous everyday linen dresses! I NEED them in my life. No matter how long it takes, one day I’m going follow your inspiration and sew one for myself. 🪡
The 1840s are so underappreciated! I love a fan front dress, and this is a beautiful specimen. Can't wait for the strawberry gown!!!
I will never NOT be fascinated with garment construction, but watch you sew and gather, and pin really is beautiful!
Not me low-key bookmarking this to try doing it myself when I finally have the courage to pull out my sewing machine 👀👀
Every one of your videos is so delightful creative and cosy. ❤️❤️ I'm so glad I found you
Amazing
Very nice
Very pretty 😀
"promo sm"
Loved the pikachu photo bombing 😂 (and also the dress)
Hi, online I always read linen shrinks in the wash. Can you please share more details on how you wash these linen garments? Do they shrink? Do you wash in hot or cold? And what kind of wash cycle do you do?
It shrinks on the first wash, so you prewash the fabric before cutting it so your garment doesn't shrink. Most linen should be washed cold.
Yup! I did prewash and iron the linen which I didn't go into since it was done months ago when I first go it. :D
That turned out wonderfully! Glad to see you settled! I really hope this situation is a good fit for you and your family!
I love your 1840 cottage core look, beautiful ❤
I love how this turned out and can’t wait to see the celestial gown!!
OMG I am excited for that one! I'm digitizing the embroidery as I type!
👗💜
Where did your get your blue dress?
I got it from Linennaive.com - use code Sewstine for 10% off!
I can’t unsee porg now 😂 Your pup is PRECIOUS.
Love this dress, but SO EXCITED for the next two videos!
Thank you!!! LOL so glad I'm not the only one who sees it!
The circle skirt is beautiful! Although you should really let it hang for 24 hours before hemming to avoid the uneven hem, especially in linen which is a looser shifty weave and tends to fall on the bias so much more!
That's good advice, thank you!
So excited to see that upcoming celestial Worth gown, I've pinned it so many times!
YES!!! Thank you!!
Love the black dress, too!🖤
Ugh I love when you upload 😩💕 Always so thankful when your video pops up on my feed 🤗
Thank you so, so much!!!
I shall assume that everyone's Pinterest page looks the same, since hers is identical to mine.
lol I believe it
You are a very clever lady 🙌🏻
And that colour is lovely on you 😊🫶🏼
Thank you so much 🙂
So nice again!!
Love cottegecore
12:05 Fab outfit!
You’re really talented at sewing.
Thank you so much!!!
Are you a beginner sewist?
Her videos on UA-cam go back years and I think she mentioned sewing pre UA-cam. not a beginner
@@RandomPerson-bb2gp huh
@@zvezdoblyat huh
@@RandomPerson-bb2gp your comment looks line a bunch of gibberish. Can you say it again? I'm not sure if the problem is on my end or yours
@@zvezdoblyat weird mine looks fine. I just said she’s not a beginning as her videos go back for years
