The same way people look past it in call me by your name. Gay kids are often viewed as more mature. We grew up getting called old souls and all that which allows people to rationalize their abuse as not actually abusive because they really don’t see us them as kids.
You mentioned their clothes a couple times, and I think it’s so cool how they accentuate that they’re poor by not only having them wear the same clothes a lot over the seasons (as opposed to some shows where they never wear the same outfit twice) but they also wear each other clothes. You’ll frequently see Lip, Ian and Fiona all wear the same shirt. They have limited clothing, as long as it’s clean and it fits they’re wearing it

I wish more people would talk about how Karen full on drugged and raped Frank Like, he's clearly saying "no no no" He's a terrible person but no one deserves that. Thank goodness for Sheila

I don't understand how none of the reactors watching this show don't realize it was frank who was raped by karen not the other way around and then they victim blame him for being raped. I do not like frank as a person but he still is a victim. I know their ages make it more confusing but he was high out of his mind not in control of his body and yelling no multiple times? - this isn't a hate comment I really like your reactions but want you to understand.

Generally because Frank is how shall we put it. Oh, awful. In fact a good part of the sex that Frank has isn't legally him consenting. If you're drunk or high you can't consent regardless of your age. How often is Frank having sex where he's drunk or high? It's a lot.
But if it wasn't;t Frank (and perhaps not someone so much older), more people would understand that the character is being sexually assaulted.

(sry for super long comment lol PLEASE anyone feel free to criticize this take) i feel like ian and kash’s relationship is really just disgusting because its treated as some kind of comedic relief for a shock factor gay 6 scene every now and then. kash could have been a real plot device in ian’s character development and helping in the understanding of ian’s character and his values early on. it is clear later in the story ian wants a family, to love and protect children in a healthy and free relationship with his partner. what he had with kash is the exact opposite, setting a stage for ian’s values and wants to be revealed or hinted at and creating room for A LOT of good and impactful character development. NOT ONLY THIS but it also could have tied into how ian may feel outcasted or different from his family or peers in certain aspects (with him being gay, later on him finding out he’s the only gallagher sibling that is not frank’s, him being compared to monica, etc) which i feel would have really added depth to his character the show sometimes lacked especially in season 1
as someone with crippling social anxiety, sheila getting out of the house out of disgust and pure anger at her husband for fucking with their daughter, never fails to fill me up with joy. to a regular person that doesnt look like a lot, but it is. like a LOT lot.

one of the most heartbreaking moments of the whole show (among the very many) is watching debbie go from loving her dad and being hopeful about him, to understanding everything better and hating him so much like the others do
Honestly, Debbie became a terrible person after season 3, I started to hate Debbie more than Frank.

even as an ian and mickey shipper (their relationship is still developing in s1), my favorite s1 scenes are when sheila comforts karen after the purity ball, lip telling karen he promises he doesn't love her, the two times sheila goes out of the house, and the entire sequence where fiona decides to not go to steve. made me very emotional T_T

The Scene with Mickey and Ian was always confusing to me, it felt like it came out of no where, but Its a crazy start to a relationship, threatening to beat someone up then sleeping with them, yikes.
Also My grandma used to kiss me on the lips and so did my mom growing up, but it definitely wasn't as long as Jimmy-Steve kissed his mom, that's just weird. And when I got old enough I legit was like, hey this is kinda weird can you just kiss me on the cheeks, thanks.

My sister had a kid a couple of years ago and he's 2 now and he went in for a kiss on my lips last time I saw him and it really made me uncomfortable, I know it's innocent when your a kid but it's weird the older you are to see family kiss each other.

I also know of Ky Nicole. One thing, Ky has a chronic illness if I’m remembering correctly so they don’t post for very long amounts of time every once in awhile due to that. They haven’t posted anything in 3 months but as far as I know they are committed (they said they are), just often very sick which leads to irregular scheduling.

I feel like im one of the few people who flat out DESPISES Jimmy-Steve. He was one of my favourite characters at the start of the season but the moment the other shoe dropped about his double life and fake name all of the good he had done was completely cancelled out. And he only gets worse as the show goes on, you would think that he would learn after his lies drove Fiona away but he just keeps on spinning that yarn and making me hate him more and more with each episode

As the oldest I relate to Fiona. I didn’t make as many bad decisions but boy did I make plenty. I had to step up. If someone offered to swoop in & be independent (look at a house with them) & my mother wanted to be present somehow… as much as I love my siblings.. I’d probably let her and look at houses. I was never given that option. Who knows maybe I wouldn’t have taken it. I wish Fiona was given more understanding by people (prior to Yk… THAT episode) for her. But I realize not everyone can empathize/understand. Not everyone was given that burden. Didn’t have to sacrifice themselves for their siblings. As soon as I could work. Most of my money went to helping the house. It’s exhausting & so thankless. “Oh but you took it upon yourself to take that role” is so easy for others to say. The moment we leave people still wanna talk how awful & selfish we are. We aren’t allowed to break apart. No else will be there to pick up the pieces. It’s sad

This first season is so strong, and as someone from a large family, its so great to see a fellow large family, and to have it actually be accurate. The dynamics and roles, how age impacts things, all that is just spot on when theres a lot of siblings. Plus it really digs into your chest and emotionally tears you apart.

Ian and Mickey have known eachother for years. In older seasons Ian says the first time they talked was in 3rd grade and Ian asked for a pencil and Mickey said “if you talk to me again I’ll kill you” (it wasn’t exactly what he said but it was along the lines of that)
