Lovely! I was born in Portsmouth and my Mother’s family were originally from Portchester. There are even graves of my relatives in the churchyard there. I live in Canada now, but it’s always lovely to see my old home.

Pretty cold here too and snow expected any day. I must say I prefer that to the terrible high winds and rain that has flooded the country for much of the festive season.

@@MemorySeekers it s10:00 am and it’s 23F and our high for the day is to be 32 F. High next two days 28F. Don’t know what that is in C but cold lol. Just praying the electricity stays on and no problems there. I don’t like the extreme heat but it’s Tx so we know that’s going to happen. Weather is always an interesting topic. So you go see and film interesting and lovely places so we can have that to enjoy when the weather is crazy. Hugs and many blessings.

I grew up in Portchester from the ages of 7 to 16 (I left in 1986) and went to 2nd Portchester Cub Scouts and was in the choir of St.Mary's Church (in the corner of the castle) for two or three years.
I now live in America 🇺🇸 and am now a U.S citizen.

Wow as a Canadian I'm absolutely awestruck at the history, architecture,Beauty of the U.K.!At every turn things are so different and it all seems to work-every home seems to exude a character all it's own!My Heritage is from the U.K. and I must have this Love for what I see in these tremendous mini documentaries. Also watch "Escape to the Country" with it's absolutely Phenomenal presenters who I find just second to none Nicki, Johnny,Alistar,Jules,Ginny,Steve,Sonali,Margherita etc. -need I say more!!!!They showcase all of the Gorgeous, innovative, spectacular aspects much as you do in this cliip! Well I had a period as a young child that I spoke with an english accent, know now I should have married a Lady from the U.K. that quite frankly would have suited me down to the ground as I then would have had a direct connection and the circle would have been complete! Then there is U.K. music which is unrivaled as well!!! Thankyou and Cheers to you all in your Blessed Magical U.K. Isles!

I live in Fareham, the town next door to Portchester. I feel blessed to have this beautiful piece of history so close by. It's truly a place of beauty.
My girlfriend's mother and father were married at the church within the grounds. She never fails to remind of this, or the fact that she wants to be married there too... 😱 (One day I might make that happen!)
If you go to the mariner and park the car there you will find a nice cafe on the water to grab a cup of tea and to the left there's the start of the England coastal path. It's a lovely walk along toe paths (with the odd hop up from the beach to contend with) that takes you all the way to the castle. I recommend starting from there if you're upwardly mobile. It also takes you past Turret House and past the village. Turret House has it's own dock within the grounds and is itself an historical building.
The village itself is beautiful and almost frozen in time. Incredibly quaint with most of the historical architecture still present, this is where we plan on retiring to.
Now, it's time to pull my boots on, hitch the dog to the lead and head out to Portchester for a Sunday stroll!

Hi Simon and Will. The castle remains are amazing. I can imagine how beautiful it would have been during its’s heyday. Not so much for the prisoners. The reconstructed theatre was impressive. Portchester, with its various architecture, is very pretty. Took a screenshot of that thatched pink cottage. How lovely. Thanks again and take care til next time. ❤Memory Seekers is a treasure.

I love learning about the layer upon layer of history at this site! But not surprising...as they say, "location, location, location"!! The theater reconstruction was wonderful. I became interested in Portsmouth after watching the A&E Series Horatio Hornblower. The Napoleonic Wars are a fascinating part of history, and I was amazed to find that scanned original copies of the London Gazette are available online going back to the late 1700s. Things like Naval officer promotions, seizures of French "prizes", battle victories, etc., still there for us to see. Having grown up here in California, it's mind-boggling to see Roman lighthouses still standing. I'm a bit late watching this one, as we were visiting the gorgeous snowy scenery in Yosemite Valley last week. Nice and quiet the second week of January. I do hope you gents can see it yourselves one day. :)

Anybody who’s watched the 70’s TV series *Colditz* may remember the big escape at the end of series #1.
Some of the outdoor escape sequences were filmed at Porchester Castle.
In the 1970’s my family ran a small hotel and a number of the crew stayed there with us during filming.
I was about 11 at the time and I can remember pestering them to get me Bob Wagner’s autograph. 😃
