    Here is the proper way of doing an oil & filter change to your BMW F800GS, for more info you can check out albesadv.com/bmw-f800gs-oil-fi...
    This is episode 5 of the commuter mods series for our BMW F800GS, in this episode I'm changing the oil and the oil filter, so if you want to know how to properly change your oil on a BMW F800GS, this is it. This mod won't make our necessary commute less painful, but your F800GS will defenitely benefit from it, good fresh oil and filter is the best way to keep your engine healthy.
    To keep this video short and to the point, the SKIDPLATE REMOVAL is on a separate video:
    AFTER THE OIL CHANGE REMEMBER TO RECYCLE YOUR USED OIL.
    Stay tuned cause we have more to come: street oriented tires, a RAM mount, a scott steering damper and I will make the OEM rims tubless thanks to a OutEx tubless rims kit.

      Hey Albe, what’s so special about the drain plug washer? And how do i get a new one?

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  3 роки тому +1

      The drain plug washer is made out of soft metal, like aluminum or copper and when torqued properly it takes the shape of the 2 surfaces it's pressed against, forming a proper seal. After a few uses, it's been pressed to its limit and doesn't seal properly anymore. They are or at least should be cheap even at the BMW dealer, you can also get them online. Unlike the Aprilia, it's not as important to only buy OEM for the F800GS because they sit on the outside of the case rather than in a recess like in the case of the Tuono v4.

    Nice video, but just to let you know, you were using the oil filter wrench backwards. Turn it around so that when you pull on the handle, it closes against the oil filter and it gives you the correct leverage to remove the filter. Then to put the new filter on, turn it back around so that the leverage point in on the opposite side. Thanks for taking the time to video this process. I'll be changing my oil shortly and it helped to see how it's done.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  7 років тому

      from the shots it looks that way, but if you look 3:35 mins into it, when i remove it, you can see a better shot of it. The tool I was using is made for cars oil filters with a circumference down to 10" while the F800gs filter measures 9.5". Thanks for whatching but most important, thanks for the feed back. :)

    Actually you need to refill new oil into new filter before replacing to avoid air lock at the starting of the engine.

    Hey Albe, thanks for the super well-explained video and the article you wrote in your website about it (I especially find the tool section very useful), since I recently bought an F800GS - 2013, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
    One question I have though is:
    Can the oil filter be removed using the torque wrench too? (I saw you install the new one using it), so maybe you can also remove the old one with it too, no need to buy an extra tool for removing it, or am I missing something?
    Last question: Can you recommend us a good torque wrench model, that doesn't cost a fortune?
    Thanks a lot, and long live the 800GS :P

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  4 роки тому +1

      You shouldn't use a torque wrench to unscrew anything, it messes up the calibration.
      I've been using an AC Delco digital torque wrench and so far has worked pretty good, there should be a link in the description of a few of my videos, that should be around $100, I hope this helps 😀👍

    GREAT & CLEAR like usual, THANKS ALBE :). i have a question about the engine oil used in this vid, i have a 2011 F800GS and 33019 KM, i use a 10W40 (dealers manual) and I see that you use a 15W50. so who's better for the engine? and why 15W50?
    Thank you in advance for your answer

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  7 років тому +1

      +aymen Bouziane my owner's manual call for 15w50, and I believe it is always best to stick with what the manufacturer recommends, since they have a team of engineers and I don't, lol, I would recommend to stay with whatever you manual suggests unless you are in extreme conditions, super hot or super cold.

    • @aymenbouziane8338
      @aymenbouziane8338 7 років тому +2

      i gess that the choise of the viscosity is based about the weather, i'm in Northern Africa in Algeria and it's the same weather as CALI in the US. and my manuel report to France and Northern Europe, different weather Very cold compared to the temperatures of my country.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  7 років тому

      On the next oil change you might want to try the 15w50 and see if you feel the difference. let us know.

      Thanks Albes for Video!!! My manual also recommends this heavy oil 15w50, but I specifically apply 10w40 Motul 300V. Yes, the motor is more noisier, but there is no dry start. There are many cases when the timing chain is stretched to 60 tkm!

    Hi Albe, am just starting up on the oil change and other things, one question for you, how important is the torque wrench with the calibrator on it?

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому

      The torque wrench needs to be calibrated every so often, it's recommended every 12 months, when it comes to an oil change the only bolt to worry about is the drain plug and in a pinch you might be able to wing it, just look at the crush washer and stop tightening when it starts deforming. I hope that is what you were asking

    • @paulbridge6063
      @paulbridge6063 5 років тому

      @@AlbesADV My thoughts were actually, how important is it to have the digital torque wrench at all??

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому +1

      Well, for many years I did without one and made it work, then for many more I used a cheap spring loaded one and it worked just fine. The big advantage of the digital torque wrench is the accuracy and the fact that you can actually see the torque value at any point without having to set anything

  • @rohrbachsteffen
    @rohrbachsteffen 4 роки тому +1

    Hey Albe, a lot of people told me, that the K&N filters´s nut is just for the deinstallation. Otherwise there is a risk, when you use it for installation it can break of.
    For the installation screw it hand tight.
    Best wishes from a fan from Germany!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  4 роки тому

      I've done it both ways, the torque for the oil filter is very low, 8-10 lbs/ft, or some like that, I don't think that would breake the nut off, but anything is possible. Either way it's easier to just hand tight it. Thanks for watching 😀👍
