    Love seeing others that are as passionate about this gem model of a car as I am. I bought my EP91 a little over a year ago. It wasn't in the best condition but Ive been fixing her up over time whenever I get the money to. Just bought her new rims and new tyres yesterday. Ive laughed, cried, slept and dined in that car. I love it and would never sell it for half the world ❤

    Just found your channel. I bought my S reg EP91 13 years ago on eBay as a stop-gap car for £350! 97k when i collected it, just about to click over to 211k! What a brilliant car.
    Love your work. 👍

    Loved your video.😊 In 2018 we purchased a red 99 Starlet LX 3 dr hb. It's New Zealand new and we're the 2nd owners. The original owner won it in a dealer's raffle. The paint's a bit wonky, but some rubbing compound and several coats of wax got that sorted. At purchase it had 94,000+ miles on it. It's now up to 108,500+. After getting the rotors, loaded calipers, rr shoes all replaced it was just oil/gas filters, cambelt, pulleys, waterpump, belts, hoses, battery, radiator flush, wiper blades. The weather here in Wellington is mild, so the rust is minimal. This is easily the best car I've ever owned. Because of its age it requires a bi-anual WOF. New 155x13 tyres w/parts store plastic wheel covers. Painted the rim flat black, so it looks pretty good all around. The mechanics at the WOF garage cal it The Red Warrior. lol

    Absolute brilliant job, well done ! I love these cars to bits and watching you restore this gem was quite therapeutic. The alloys really suit it well I think and it’s true what you said about them in the end they handle fantastically and they are so much fun to drive along with great visibility! Has alot of character too which you don’t get in new cars , looking forward to seeing more !

    I bought one of these almost a year ago, needed a daily driver and this car was a bit of a novelty to me. it's fair to say I fell in love with it. I have just as much fun in my starlet as I do in my JDM civic type R

    • @engineboymedia
      @engineboymedia  Рік тому +2

      Something nimble and eager to drive is so under appreciated! Don’t need all the power to have fun! Is your civic a jdm EP3? Those are a rare motor

    • @Jmsborland97
      @Jmsborland97 Рік тому +1

      @@engineboymedia It is a JDM EP3, got it brought over from japan early last year. superior to the UK model in every way, some say there's barely any difference, but I think they're just trying to convince themselves of that more than anything. My EP3 and starlet are the best 2 cars I've ever had, starlet was supposed to be a daily and now its turning into a project car, it's slow but so much fun to drive, unless it's 30 degrees outside, it's like driving a frying pan 😂

    • @engineboymedia
      @engineboymedia  Рік тому

      @@Jmsborland97 unreal, yeah everyone I know thats been around a jdm ep3 said they’re a totally different beast to the UK models, I think because it was the first type r made outside japan that the local japanese engineers had a point to prove that they could make the car better 😆 if you’ve got pictures of it hit me with a follow on instagram there, I’d love to get a look at them “@engineboymedia”

    Starlets are the BEST! Bought mine for $400 8 years ago and it hasn't needed anything other than normal service items since. That makes it about ten million times more green than a Tesla. Yeah.

  • @ColinvanWaardenberg
    @ColinvanWaardenberg Рік тому

    I agree with you on the way it drives, it's not actually that fast but boy does it feel fast! Steering is fantastic, respectable mileage, cheap tire size, most of the basic parts are user serviceable with minimal elbow grease and if you flip down the back row of seats you have a surprising amount of space back in the boot, and that's still excluding the fullsize spare tire that fits below it
    Put on 15.000 km on a 1996 starlet last couple years(fantastic gift). just had to drive it up to the garage and the head mechanic diagnosed the problem in a single move, he poked the clutchhose (or the helper part near the end?) and fluids came gushing out. "Shouldn't even be fluid in this part", hahaha. I had some trouble with the clutch where i couldn't get it in gear at stoplights, and i needed to pump the clutch pedal to get it to respond to input. He told me it's not that hard to replace, aprox. 1 hour of work.
    Do you think it would be hard to get to the cabin fan intake ducts? My starlet is 25y+ old and I don't think that part has ever been cleaned on the inside. That sentence's conclusion makes me shudder just typing it, i'd really like to get in there en clean the shit out of it! I don't have an owners manual or repair manual and couldn't find one online for purchase but i'm pretty new in the car world.

    • @engineboymedia
      @engineboymedia  Рік тому

      Sorry for late reply, yes ive had to do a clutch cylinder before! Easy enough job they tend to leak but thankfully replacing the whole unit is pretty cheap!
      As for the vents, the proper way to do it would be to lift the whole dash out but thats a pretty big job for some cleaning! Maybe hit them with a compressed air gun and a bit of cleaner? 😬 might do the job lol

      Will bear in mind for the next one! For this we bought the car out of the field for £900 delivered. I haven’t totted up how much was all spent on it but I’d say at least 4-500 in parts and consumables but thankfully lots of the parts I had squirrelled away like shocks, rad, wheels and tyres etc

    I do like old Toyotas l own one and these Starlets have seen a couple driving around were l live in Sydney Australia still going down the road with no problem like a lot of old Toyotas and there are plenty of them l will mention in South Africa you can buy brand new Toyotas Starlets guess what they are rebadged Suzuki Belenos and we own a Suzuki Beleno so that confirms the fact that the Suzuki Beleno us a reliable car and everybody knows about Toyotas great reputation for reliability and there are plenty of them around in Australia new ones old ones and really old ones and they just keep on going maybe as some people say boring but how boring is it with your british or European car broken down on the side of the road and Toyotas Hondas Suzukis Mazdas Australian built Holdens and Fords just drive past you whilst you are waiting for a tow truck
