Best most important Christmas song in decades. If soldiers in midst of a World War canser aside their differences so can we. By the way you passed the test. You let the credits play. That's Floor Jansen, Sabaton's drummer's wife(Hannes the soldier hit by the grenade) Probably the best reaction I've ever seen of you.
@@ryannelson3220 true. If he'd been hit then he'd be dead, which at the beginning of the video at least would have been pointless. I think the point was that Hannes is supposed to have what they called shell shock then which is why he did the mostly insane step of leaving the trench

The one thing that I love about Sabaton and their songwriting, which is a keypoint for what they do, is how HISTORICALLY ACCURATE they are. This wasn't just a portrayal based on ta concept for the song. This actually happened, as the Christmas Truce took place over World War I, when Pope Benedict begged for peace over because of Christmas. It wasn't the countries that agreed to this; the soldiers did it on their own. It turned out that after this, each country made up their own rules that no truces like this would ever happen again, lest those doing it face court-martial. So this was the only time this ever really happened. T hey exchanged gifts, like those buttons, pictures, etc. and yes, they played soccer with each other and sang carols, and even helped to bury each other's dead. After Christmas Day, they went back to war. Keep in mind that we in the US really didn't hear much about this because we didn't enter World War 1 until 1917, so this happened 3 years before we got involved. So an event like this is huge for those in Europe. BTW, that cross actually exists in Ypres, Belgium.
@@sandgroper1970 i think it was for fraternising with the enemy and if it wasnt the firing squad they were moved to more dangerous parts of the front line

This video only covers a small section of the trench line. Prior to this truce (and it happened all down the line in various different ways) they were close enough that they had shouted to each other, made temp truces to gather wounded and made "deals" such as not shooting at men using the latrine.
At first I was wondering why almost no one is wearing helmets (apart from the odd Pickelhaube), but since this is 1914 helmets were not common. The British Brodie Helmet came into service in 1915, German Stahlhelm in 1916... Crazy times. Listening to this song during a spell of depression really got me crying, even after lsitening to it for the umpteenth time. First time listening got me crying too. This song is beautiful, the video is amazing and overall the presentation is just perfection. Not too hard, full of emotion, this could be a timeless classic.
"This has just made it to the top of the list of my Sabaton songs" Oh boy, you got a bunch of songs to cover man! : 1. Karolinens Bön - Swedish version 2. Rise Of Evil 3. Lojonet från Norden 4. Price Of A Mile 5,.Konungens likfärd
To think one man death led to the death, destruction and suffering of millions and led to not one but two World Wars reminds of the French Indian War led to the American Revolution. P.S Floor Jansen does the vocals for the choir in the end credits.
Funny how they blew up the instrument of Peace(the piano)but saved the instrument of war(the cross). The soldier called Hannes is Sabaton's drummer Hannes van Dahl. You are right; his wife, Nightwish Frontwoman Floor Jansen, sang the title song on the ending credits. Hannes knew he had to put Floor in or it was the longtime doghouse for him lol. One of the best videos I have seen of Sabaton. They really nailed it.
For 9 hrs there was no war. They drank they sang played futball. Then started up again. By the way the back ground voice at the end a certain Valkyrie Goddess... FLOOR!!!
Very touching song and video! It’s a true story that happened in the 1st WW between British (was it a Scottish division? Hence the bagpipes) and German troops at the Belgian frontline… these men could be friends, but politics forced them to kill each other… so sad, and still happens all over the world… great song, love it! Greetings from Germany 👍🤘
This song reminds me of Eric Bogle. He has a song called "...And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" about Gallipoli, another battle in the Great War. While it doesn't include Christmas, it includes a part that goes: But the band played Waltzing Matilda When we stopped to bury our slain We buried ours, and the Turks buried theirs Then we started all over again...

We love You as well - What a GREAT reaction and true feelings shown.
Great Reaction, for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot .
That was a legit momment through ww1 , 24 th December 1914 , in Belgium warface , The Christmas truce, was a historic momment ! Sabbaton , did an extraordinery work ! Epic and legit song!
hi my grandpa was a german soldier at ww2 . he was captured by the allies (USA). The first thing he noticed was an american soldier in a sherman tank . The american soldier gave him his hand and asked him if he wants a chewing gum :) . merry christmas to all . sry 4 my bad english im not a native speaker . and btw god bless u all .
Things like the Christmas truce used to be somewhat common in warfare. Armies would routinely call temporary cease fires to allow for the burial of the dead and collection of the wounded. Or the exchanging of hard to get items and maybe even prisoners. Armies with the same religious beliefs would frequently refuse to give battle on Holy days or significant days. Only in our modern world, the 20th century and beyond, has it really stopped.
Pope Benedict XV sent a letter asking for truce for Christmas. General's said no to that and wanted to continue the fight. It was the soldiers themselves who instigated the truce. 100.000 soldiers joined the truce for Christmas. In one account there was an english soldier with barber skills who went on to cut some german's hair to look the best for Christmas. One of the finest moments in history are portrayed in this song! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all! Love Peace and Rock'n Roll
Your reaction just appeared on my radar. I really love this song. It´s one of my favourites for now. After No bulltes fly I thought there won´t be such an impressive and emotional song by Sabaton about history but I´ve been wrong. The real christmas anthem 2021 - what do you think?
At the start Joakim Broden played keyboard or guitar and the lead vocals. In 2005 they brought in Daniel Myhr to take over the keyboard to offload him. Then in 2012 four of the then 6 members quit to form the band Civil War, this included Myhr, leaving only Joakim and Pär, they're still so there's two founding members left. My understanding is that after that Joakim does the keyboard for the studio recordings. I thought it was tracked live but for the Red Baron during The Great Tour Joakim plays the intro on the airplane, before handing it over to someone else to concentrate on crowd interaction and vocals again. So, that could be a live session player OR it's a stage hand and it's just a prop once Joakim leaves it. If they DID use a live session player for that I suspect they also used him for the other songs (seems a waste not to). Obligatory note: HaNnEs VaN dAhL iS mArRiEd To FlOoR jAnSeN (running joke). Which certainly helps explain why she was the logical choice for the end vocals, though Sabaton and ReVamp has also toured together so even without that there's connections.
Hey Hunterz. This song is so powerful to me, in more than one way. Not just because of the story, which is powerful in and of itself, but because of the lesson this event teaches: That even in the darkest of hours, in the most hellish of landscapes, it is never truly dark, as long as a lone light shines through. It is a reminder that even in war, we can still remember our humanity. And according to one source, where a Christmas truce did happen, after getting together with the men from the Allies on that Christmas Day, the German commander ended up having to retreat his men, because they refused to fight the men they had made friends with. On a musical note, I just now realized that Floor's operatic vocals mimic and mirror Joakim's vocals in the song -- and if my suspicion is correct, it is the pre-chorus and the chorus she sings. This song is one of the most well-done videos to date by Sabaton, and I've seen many that they've done, including Bismarck, Defense of Moscow, Primo Victoria, Carolus Rex, and Fields of Verdun. It never ceases to amaze me how Sabaton shows the grit and darkness, sometimes hopelessness of war, yet at the same time, shows both the pride of those who fought, and the humanity of an inhumane situation.
Joakim was a keyboard/piano player originally but decided to concentrate on vocals instead. All the guys are multi talented. This song had me crying, laughing and singing along, the song and video is perfectly done to reflect these true historical events. It’s respectful but honest. Two greatgrandads and a great uncle of mine served and died in the trenches of the western front. Thank u guys for the reaction 💕🤗🏴
5:33 Sadly, a few of those first to leave the trenches were killed by the opposing side. On that day, similar events appeared all across the frontlines. And if in most places, they indeed did a truce for a day, there are some places where they continued shooting non stop that day. 😢
Sabaton hired him to play the keyboard. They needed a singer so he stepped up for that. Evidently there is an inside joke in Sabaton that they are still looking for a singer.

They left each other as friends, 3 months later the British Major was killed so sad. The first world war should never happened, The UK and Germany were not only Allies but friends. I blame Kaizer Wilhelm the second, the blood thirsty German Generals, the German Government, Austria/Hungary but most of all Archduke Franz Ferdinand travelling to Serbia on Serbia's Holy day. British Sabaton Fan 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴🇸🇪🇸🇪
Was waiting for this one! It's fantastic
I bought tickets to see the ‘Hu band’ in London next year without realising they were supporting Sabaton ! Best of both worlds 👌
really like how you are trying so hard not to shed a tear very emmotional song indeed
Great reaction guys. I don't think I ever saw Suzi so emotional and teary eyed like here. All the time I wanted to hug her (sorry Travis)🤗.
"This has just made it to the top of the list of my Sabaton songs" Oh boy, you got a bunch of songs to cover man! :
1. Karolinens Bön - Swedish version
2. Rise Of Evil
3. Lojonet från Norden
4. Price Of A Mile
5,.Konungens likfärd
To think one man death led to the death, destruction and suffering of millions and led to not one but two World Wars reminds of the French Indian War led to the American Revolution.
P.S Floor Jansen does the vocals for the choir in the end credits.
Straight Hoot n a holler of Christmas music
Also remember that the soldiers probably didn't speak each other languages, and probably relied on hand gestures.
i got this on repeat since it came out we need that in world we live today
true story! my favorite christmas song!
This song is so incredible.. I cyred so hard as i heard this. =D much love from germany :)
It's Christmas time again almost!
This is the Die Hard of Christmas songs.
The best Christmas song ever!
For 9 hrs there was no war. They drank they sang played futball. Then started up again. By the way the back ground voice at the end a certain Valkyrie Goddess... FLOOR!!!
Futbol
@@perrdawg-py8my1cl7l thanks for the spell check.
So good song and l like her hair to 😋💙
Original intro is ukrainian Shedryk, song about bird, great single, great video, Merry Christmas, guys)))
This song reminds me of Eric Bogle. He has a song called "...And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" about Gallipoli, another battle in the Great War. While it doesn't include Christmas, it includes a part that goes:
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
When we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours, and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again...
See I know this well. But as a kiwi. They buried there dead together. And exchanged items. Was a planned ceasefire due to the heat and disease
I love the two of you,
Suzi face in this reaction was adorable. React to more Sabaton, to their longest song, Rise of Evil.
What an
Amazing Christmas song by SABATON. The lyrics
and the music inspire you.
And the video. It's also a piece of history.
You can learn a lot.
It's very emotional😭
And at the end the voice of FLOOR 🌟
from NIGHTWISH makes it extra beautiful..💫
This is a Gift for Christmas
☃️🎄🕊
We are all.......
We are all.....
We are all.....
We are all..... FRIENDS 🤝🤝
For me the Christmas song of the year 2021...💫
A little
PEACE 💛
and Love for Everyone🌹
Wars are

Let's 🌐 🌏
all think a little bit about 💛 Christmas Truce during the Christmas 🌟 season, this is so often forgotten!!!!
Thank you this was AMAZING. Love from The Netherlands ❤🤍💙🇳🇱🙋🏼♀️
Sabaton reakció videókat kerestem, de nálad gyönyörűbb szemű lányt még nem láttam
Just got all their equipment from the USA-tour in a container to my work yesterday. So much stuff!
Wonder if i should take all the boxes that are labeled "tank" and set up in my living room ;)
It was really happend in Worldwar 1 in Belgium. British and german Soldiers celebrate Christmas.
How Lovely is your Christmas Emoticon an adbundant Month Before the Exact Date ! This BandZ you Know that need no introductionZ
one of my favorite solos ever
Our family is the oposite..we get along okay all year..and every christmas ends in a 3 front trench war..
Can we have this song as the UK Christmas number 1? Rather than the poppy trash we usually get
If they dare to play real music on the radio or TV. Don't hold your breath. All we will hear is the usual stuff - Adele, Sheeren, BTS, rap etc.
I love you guys!
end Credits was Floor Jehnsen from Nightwish. Married to Sabaton's drummer./
There is something about this song that just really brings out my emotions.
That was a legit momment through ww1 , 24 th December 1914 , in Belgium warface , The Christmas truce, was a historic momment ! Sabbaton , did an extraordinery work ! Epic and legit song!
This video is next level quality, reminds me of when I first saw Thriller many moons ago. The quality is amazing.
hi my grandpa was a german soldier at ww2 . he was captured by the allies (USA). The first thing he noticed was an american soldier in a sherman tank . The american soldier gave him his hand and asked him if he wants a chewing gum :) . merry christmas to all . sry 4 my bad english im not a native speaker . and btw god bless u all .
The best is at the end FLOOR
Nao poderia faltar o react de vocês
Muito bom ,parabens .🇧🇷👏
Great reaction. Greetings from Germany
In fact, the guitar and piano that the instrumentalists play were actually that night of Christmas Truce, so Tommy played "guitar" with the guitar.
Your reaction just appeared on my radar. I really love this song. It´s one of my favourites for now.
After No bulltes fly I thought there won´t be such an impressive and emotional song by Sabaton about history but I´ve been wrong.
The real christmas anthem 2021 - what do you think?
1914 was the only year they did that , the upper brass thought there would be trickery later
Great reaction overall but Travis this was the best reaction I've ever seen and heard from you. I Love it.
Not just because of the story, which is powerful in and of itself, but because of the lesson this event teaches:
That even in the darkest of hours, in the most hellish of landscapes, it is never truly dark, as long as a lone light shines through.
This realy happend the cross you see is here in belgium in Ypres to be precise...and in Engeland there is a statue that had one axis and one alied soldier shaking hands..and there is a football in between them....sabaton did a great job knowing the history
un increible video
