  • we take our pocket cruiser to the sailboat races on lake Pendoreille to compete in a six race series. Heavy and challenging winds and stiff competition helps us to fine tune our skills and learn our boat even more.

    Thanks for sharing the thrills and spills of racing, well done. This is inspiring for me to try something similar in my Montgomery 15! Fair winds!

      Thank you. It’s definitely a lot of fun and there’s learning experiences in every race. Just keep your head on a swivel around the other boats! Fair winds.

    Racing bigger boats is so much fun. We can start just as well as them too!

      It is fun , and frustrating when the larger boats take off in higher winds but we can win in the lighter stuff. How can I get ahold of you to link up on flathead?

    great episode, i noticed your engine dragging a few times , that will lose u some speed. just got an eagle 525 hoping to race that as well

      Thanks, yeah the extra drag was bothering me too. We thought about taking the outboard off and lashing it in the cabin or leaving it behind entirely. These small boats paddle nicely in no wind.

    Epic!!!! Racing with your kid is great. My boys and I got into triathlons when they were teens, many good memories there....

      Thanks! Yeah there’s a few 44 footers at the marina but I don’t think they get much bigger than that.

    all about the fun great days out , you could,ve luck out and got a very light wind suited to your light boat and you would,ve been way ahead of the big heavy boats ,it was those 20knt gusts that kept them in front

    they can take your wind, with you on their lee... where the same isn't true the other way round.
    but I still think a familiarizing season of cruising, attentive to sail trim tweaks on the new, rig before racing.
    maybe work out some Hiking Straps, to fit up for racing ? .( and a tiller extension. ) .... 29er hiking straps are about the longest ones.

      I like my ronstan battle stick. I use it all the time when singlehanded because I sit forward a bit. My coamings are way too thin to sit on so I’m stuck in the cockpit

      @@ruddyducksailing I noticed they looked uncomfortable, after I wrote that .. if you can think of an easy on, easy off, fix for that; it would increase your speed on most points of sail....already have the extension anyway.

      @@ruddyducksailing or a Trapeze rig ? ( off the mast, you second hand standing out off the toe rail )......the utility of something like that would be higher winds than expected, and a long beat back to the boat landing before dark.....otherwise, just racing.

    What are you using as a whisker pole? Did you make it?

    • @ruddyducksailing
      @ruddyducksailing  3 місяці тому

      It’s a sparcraft whisker pole . I think it telescopes from 4 to 8 feet. It has a jaw on the mast side and spike for the clew. It works great.
