Great video, it really showcases both the wonderful sailing qualities of the Melonseed and the beauty of Lac St-Louis (says a local sailor). I had a chance to sail a Melonseed; thanks to Albert for his gracious invitation, as well his patient instruction and history lesson on the Melonseed skiff. It was a great sail and I hope to one day join the ranks of "Melonheads", in meantime I will be enjoying your great videos, so keep them coming, please.
@@kevinmclean7818 Thanks … glad you’re enjoying watching Grenville’s sailing adventures. Indeed, the Melonseed skiff has great sailing qualities, is a snap to rig and launch and, having been described as a symphony of curves, is pleasing to the eye from any perspective! Shouldn’t be too long before I get ‘round to uploading two more CMC 2024 videos … hold fast!
Thank you John for sharing this wonderful gathering of Melonseed's and their owners. Wonderful. And so well documented for us who were not there. I sailed a Laser on Friday, for the first time in 45 years. My wife had to stay on shore, unlike with our Melonseed. But it was great fun. I bought one of the very first Lasers in the early 1970's with my paper route money. 900 something hull #. I recently found a local 1974 Laser and refurbished it. So, now I am dividing time between 3 boats. We had a wonderful sail in the Melonseed a couple weeks ago, on completely undeveloped, Hemlock Lake. A jewel of the Finger Lakes. "Hold Fast!"
@@saabtech3510 Awesome, thanks! Laser was my last boat that I raced before getting the Melonseed … that was fun but it’s hard to top the Melonseed just for the joy of sailing! Hold fast indeed! ⛵️😄
Lovely little boats! I have a 12 ' marconi dinghy but it moves much slower than the ms! More like a plow horse than a thoroughbred! Ha! I presume the name is from the old explanation of how a sailboat works: " the wind presses the boat against the water and it squirts forward just like when you squeeze a melon seed between your fingers and it shoots across the room!"?
Lovely little boats indeed! The design name is derived from the hull form when viewed from the top which rather resembles a melon seed but your description of its motion through the water is spot on as well! Small boats are fun to sail!
Love this video. I’m afraid once I managed to get in I couldn’t get out. The thought of a gybe in a stiff breeze is terrifying.
@@rcpmac Thanks for watching and glad you liked it! ⛵️😄
