My Favorite LPVO Kinda Sucks

- You can't spell Credo without REEEEEEEEEE
On paper, the Trijicon Credo 1-4 is the perfect LPVO, at least for me. I don't care about illumination, I just want a lightweight scope with a good reticle, and the Credo's segmented circle 55 gr BDC reticle delivers. But there's something seriously wrong with this thing.

It's very difficult to demonstrate or describe the optical issue with this scope, but everyone who looked through the Credo noticed it immediately. The best way I can describe it is that the image shifts or smears if your eye isn't in exactly the right spot behind the scope. The larger problem is that the exact right spot is slightly off center, far enough that it introduces scope shadow on one side.
I experienced the exact same issues with the accupower 1-4. It was extremely disappointing and I sold it immediately following my review. Idk wtf is up with Trijicon and their 1-4s.
The AccuPoint 1-4 has a very forgiving eye box
Funny enough my new EoTech Magnifier does this. This is a credo though and that highly disappointing
As I posted in another comment, I'm having a similar issue with a Primary Arms GLx. I'm considering returning it since thankfully I bought it through Amazon.
Would you still consider the Burris RT6 as the LPVO to go for as an entry LPVO?
Aside from being extremely helpful, Hop's reviews are relentlessly savage and they never fail to amuse
Hop describing his $1,000 LPVO as a "cost effective" option stings. (sighs in Sig Tango MSR poor).
If it makes you feel any better jihawdis in the middle east are using cheap scopes now. The Strike Eagle is "operator approved" and "being used in theatre"
Pst gen II 1-6 is solid for the money
pfffffffffffffffffft. me too
Yeah bro. We picked the wrong fucking hobby lmao
I thought I was hot shit when I built my Gucci gun, then realized I needed to spend another 1500 on an optic, loll
Longtime viewer and I hate to say it but I think Hop has finally done it. He's done well enough that he's changed tax brackets: he called the Trij Credo affordable. I recall a day when his idea of expensive and mine were in sync. I know the LPVO isn't super expensive as far these go but in my life, a grand for 1 to 4 anything isn't affordable. But I still love him and will keep watching.
....it's like 400 buck now
@@jamesstephenson2346 Gtfo of here, where?!? Cheapest I can find one is 600 before tax
If you aren’t the USMC, trijicon doesn’t really care to cater to your needs.
This
lol yep, if they gave a shit about the civilian market, maybe they'd actually design an ACOG with an adjustable diopter for older civilian shooters who's eyes aren't quite as good as those of a young 20 something marine.
This is my problem with spending big money on more expensive LPVOs.
I prefer LPVOs because I'm not Sammy Sniper, but a 1-6 or 1-8 for my hunting, tac shooting, etc. needs.
I want humanly achievable eye relief, a solid reticle, and glass that isn't garbage.
Hell, I'd even punt on the reticle a bit if I can figure out my own holds and dope with loads.
Really liked my pst gen II 1-6. Sits in a grey area where it’s not “cheap” but also not “expensive”
Gen 2 1-6 razors are being found for under 1000 now. Glass quality is great and has generous eye relief .
Trijicon TR25 1-6x Accupoint. As basic as they come while meeting the things you are looking for, just run it with a simple point blank zero and be done.
Sure, it’s not the latest and greatest, but it does pretty damn good for rapid target acquisition and then getting rounds on said target. Not bad for something that was originally designed as a hunting scope 12+ years ago and is still in use when you don’t need a BDC (though there are models with MilDots and MOA Dots). 👍🏻
Thanks for the recommendations!
Value wise the Vortex PST2 1-6 mentioned is great. I have one. Also look at the Burris RT-6. Illumination isn't as good but it has a better reticle, glass is about equal and a much better reticle. It's my go to recommendation for budget LPVOs that aren't junk.
This channel has become my go to source for deadass honest reviews of stuff I´m looking to buy. Thanks for that and the enterntainment too.
I think Trijicon is your mortal enemy. They must not have liked your MRO video
Primary arms ACSS is my fav LPVO. Love the reticle and the target acquisition at 1X is adequate. However it’s kinda heavy and the glass isn’t as clear as something like the Razer or the Vudu
Considering it's a literal quarter of the price of a Vudu, I'd say it's the best value of any LPVO today
My vudu is amazing!
I own one and like it (the PA ACSS raptor Gen 2)
Hell yeah dude I have the SLx Raptor 1-8 and it rocks.
This PA SLX 1-6, excellent budget scope, filipino glass (which isn't japanese, but isn't as inconsistant as chinese). the wieght is a compromise, but considering how easy it is to make a 6lb ar these days i dont mind it
On top of everything the whole rebrand of their LPVO line was just needlessly confusing and the new names aren't exactly improvements on the old. Trij also hyped it up as a huge thing happening and then just said "oh the accupower is now called the credo" like 5 times
welcome to working in any company at all's marketing department.

Have the 1-6 Credo w/ BDC Segmented Circle and it is the best LPVO I have every ran hands down. It is incredible up close as the segmented circle operates like an eotech. The bottom of the segmented circle corresponds to height over bore up close on my 1.93 mount. The 1/4 MOA sub tensions is an awesome touch to a high quality optic. I have not had the issues on zoom with my 1-6 so hopefully this is a sample size one. It is an incredible optic and I would never purchase anything else
Yeah my 1-6 does not seem to have the issue, weird
Whats a good zero for the 1-6 credo? I got the 55gr 223 16 inch version.
@@JonDoe-ef4tz If you have the 1-6 with the BDC then the zero distance should be 100 yd
I have the 1-6 SFP Red in MIL. The 1x is about the the closest true 1x I've ever looked through! The glass is super clear from edge to edge on both of my units and throughout the zoom! He clearly (pun intended) got a lemon. These things weight 18.9 oz w/o a mount. They're rugged, good turrets if you choose to use them (I don't), and they just feel like heavy tanks! Well made.
Fantastic points you brought up. This is the Exact performance I got from thr Accupower 1-4 many years ago. A fantasticly built scope, but the image quality sucked balls.
If your wondering about a 1-4 accupower? It's pretty similar from my experience as well. As stated the HX 1-6 is the dominant lpvo in Triji'a line up. Followed of course by the 1-8 in ffp. But that's 10oz heavier then this. So unless you want a 1-8 mpvo, your boned.
Thanks for the shout out!
Have you noticed these issues are more common among "straight tube" scopes? It's kind of ridiculous to me that the meta LPVO design these days has an objective lens significantly smaller than an ACOG's. Industry seems to be moving towards 35mm body diameters, which should bump up the objective lens to about 32mm. Buuuut, why not just keep making 30mm tubes with an actual objective bell? Does it have some kind of negative impact on 1x quality?
@@p47plane it’s because of the 1x on lpvos yes
I have a VCOG 1-8 on my DD5v3. Besides being rather hefty at 30 oz (with integrated mount), it's fantastic. And my favorite part is that instead of a solid cross for an aiming point, the center is hollowed out with a tiny dot at the center. After some (probably incorrect) math I figure the center dot is about .4 MOA. So the cross looks like a 1.5 MOA dot at 1x, and at 8x it's the smallest aiming point I've seen besides a chevron. And you can see your target through the spaces between the dot and the lines of the cross.
I agonized for months before deciding on an expensive optic on my expensive gun, basically because of reticles. Glad I got this one.
Although I think I'd still rather have an ACSS with a chevron and horseshoe.
Hop, you’re clout associated with TFBTv is what’s going to put C_Does on the map. The man has been making, by far, the best optics reviews for years, and is still out of the algorithm. Get your short shorts wearing son to plug him already.

Alex C was better but that's really old TFB TV lore. Dude loved old guns and talked about them all the time. Big Galil fan too. He had amazing reviews and top tens, sadly he isn't around much anymore
The optical clarity of the Credo 1-8 has been good but, maybe I need to compare it directly with a Razor in order to verify my experience. Thanks for bringing up these points.
From videos I've seen of the 1-8 it's a little softer than some of the really high tier stuff out there, but still great.
I would urge you to revisit that vortex mil reticle in the PST and Razor 1-6. Once you plug the numbers into Strelok or another ballistic app you'll see how well those hashmarks line up. The posts are thick enough where it works well without the illumination, but once you have the option of that aimpoint bright dot you'll never go back. I used to think just like you on the reticle and got fed up with the mid range lpvos. I bit the bullet and cried while buying the Razor 1-6, and now I get it and no longer shop for LPVOs as that is the one.
Yeah SFP 1x - 6x LPVOs are really underrated. Optically very good, phenomenal 1x, lightweight, often great FOV, "fast", great illumination and good value. The Delta Stryker 1x - 6x or Razor HD 1x -6x are really hard to beat when it comes design compromises and actual use for the standard AR. They beat out scopes 2x - 3x their price in many of the aforementioned qualities.
You pretty much typed my exact thoughts . I wasn’t too impressed with my gen 2 razor at first(besides the glass quality and FOV which is amazing), but after using strelok to plug in the numbers and using the hash marks I don’t see myself buying another lpvo. Best in class in my opinion .
Yeah he’s smoking crack. He literally picked the “unusable” reticle with a donut of occlusion. I’ve got a 1-6 credo HX. I ran the numbers on my gun shooting a Mk262-ish load and went with the 7.62/308 reticle. Basically just zero the center cross at 225 and the sequential marks are nearly dead nuts out to 600
Love my Vortex Razor HD gen 2
It’s just RETARDED (and I’m an US Army retired sniper) to have a MilDot or MilRad reticle without BDC elevation turret (like on Leupold Mark 4 10 power scopes with M3 BDC turrets). You need a bullet drop reticle or BDC turret! Vortex Razor with JM reticle is the answer.
I tried the primary arms griffin x 1x8. 17-18oz. Aero mount on my 20". Im happy with it. I want another for a 18" now. My ranch is in the rolling foothills below the high desert mountains. Views for miles. The griffin 1x8 seems to work in all lighting conditions and all magnifications. Im pretty sure i paid less than $500 for it.
Every lvpo video hop posts I wonder why he seems to be somehow incapable of acknowledging that the ACSS reticle exists
I got a primary arms 1-6 raptor. Great scope. I think Primary arms is a solid brand. Paid 600ish for it.
@@AEtrane Probably gonna get one for my FAL.
Yup, I love my Raptor 1-6x. Light, decent image quality, and the reticle is great.

I just put a LPVO 1x-8x on my 30-30 deer rifle, and I am loving it. For a 20-100 yard hunting situation, I love having the ability to back off to "brush gun" 1x or getting to really zoom in for a good placed shot.
Love my 1-8 accupower. With a mil reticle and QD mount so I can run it on multiple guns. Wind holds a challenge if I don't dial the elevation but other than that and the weight I have no complaints.

Was not even aware of the C-Does UA-cam channel. Thanks for pointing him out. Hopefully I will find a LVPO that doesn't break the bank. Always love the no BS reviews since your commentaries is what keeps forcing manufacturers to improve their products. Well, at least they should take heed.
He's 10/10 for optics reviews
I own a accupoint tr-24. At first I really liked it and I still do. The simple triangle brings my eye to it quickly. With that being said I do feel that it absolutely doesn’t give me as much information. It’s literally a triangle and two posts. With that being said the longest distance I shoot is 200 yards because that’s the farthest range out here. And it’s fine for that distance.
The TR24 with a BDC/ACOG reticle would be near ideal.
Have you seen the same grease smear image at 4x with your accupoint?
I've watched this video maybe 30 times, it's very informative. Ended up buying the Credo 1-6 based on your recs. Keep up the good work!
How is the credo 1-6?
I have been using an ATIBAL 1x8 30mm, lighted reticle scope for over a year now on my 14.5 in DD AR. It weighs about 17.5 oz without the rings. It is a little heavy but has worked great. I have no problem hitting out to 500 yards with the reticle. It also comes in at about $300 with a lifetime warranty. I love it.
Primary Arms ACSS reticules are still my favorite.
This. I love their LPVOs and red dots.
I have the 1-8 FFP. It feels really solid, I trust it. I also like the ranging features, it helps give context for what to expect a target to look like at different magnification through the window.
I've been VERY happy with my 1-4 Accupower but I also bought it right as Trijicon was trying to dump the Accupowers right before the announcement of the Credo so I only paid $450 for mine.
It's the clearest image out of any scope I've ever personally seen but there are plenty of people that have used optics I will never afford or experience that would say these aren't that great compared to something in the $1,500+ price range
Same here. I got mine back in 2016 or so soon after they came out. I'll agree like what C_DOES said that on 4x it is a bit fuzzy near the edge, but I've found that it's significantly or completely mitigated by shoving your eye closer to the optic at the short end of the eye relief. Best 1-4 available today IMO. I've heard about MANY returns of the P4XI, some even several times in a row. Aaron from Sage Dynamics threw the accupower from a second story deck and it held zero, that sells it enough for me.
I have one that I got at the same time and I was caught off guard when I watched this cause mine has some of the clearest glass on any scope I own. I don’t own any nightforce or any Schmidt and bender but I do have plenty of leupold scopes and Nikon
Primary Arms, cheap, great reticle, good glass, one to six, light weight.
At this point I just want to know are you guys going to start doing the sledgehammer drill in the desert just like your spirit animal nutnfancy

@@Hoplopfheil Do a sheepdog video where you act like you actually give a fuck about your neighbors but when SHTF you could care less.
I do like the Eotech VUDU 1-6. I think it's flexible enough for making CQB hits and anything out to 3-400 yds. And the glass is plenty clear.
But, yeah...eye relief can be a pain. Just gotta train with it enough to learn to have a love/hate relationship with it.
I have a 1-6 ffp vudu and find the eye relief to be ideal. Plus primo glass quality
Any chance you'll do any reviews on any of the magnified optics that Primary Arms has put out? I am curious to see your opinion on them, considering I have the 5x prism that they have, and I honestly quite enjoy it. The reticle is a little too small for my taste, but it is unobtrusive, it works well enough for me to be able to use it, and the glass clarity, in my uninformed opinion, is pretty good. I would be down to throw mine your way if you wanted to use it for a review instead of spending cash on it.
the 1-8 credo looks great throughout the magnification range. 34mm tube is a bit more forgiving.
yeah, you covered that. I think the 1-8 is also what's used in the VCOG.
I haven't found anything I like better than the Gen II Razor with JM1 reticle. Bright red dot for CQB. Simple reticle with shoulder width hash marks at subtended distances. PB to 250 yards with proper zero. Crystal clear optics. I've shot IPSC silhouettes to 600 with mine, works great. No need to look further. I like your reviews Hop. Guess you don't get to use your dad's wardrobe of shorts.
Nice to see you’re still fielding the Militiaworks rifle. I bought one after your review and couldn’t be happier
The old Accupoint 1x4 that i picked up in a trade in 2010 even with its' goofy triangle and post "reticle" thing, is still a bomb proof rocket.🤷♂️
The Strike Eagle horseshoe and PA's ACSS are my favorite reticles
Holy shit, this review was so relevant to me for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I was planning on getting this exact scope to go on my 16" because it's one of the lightest LPVOs out there, it's SFP (which I want for the easy 1x use), and idgaf about illumination. You spelled out my exact mindset and then shit all over it lol.
😂 I want to replace a Vortex Viper Gen 2 PST because it weighs so damn much. The Trijicon Credo HX 1-6x looked like the best choice by far for under $1,000. Back to the drawing board…
Those issues are on the 1-4x only, not the 1-6x
I have the 1-6 credo with the SFP red BDC. It’s bright and has good glass quality. It’s not as good as my VCOG 1-8 for clarity but good. I’m not certain why they have problems with the 1-4 credo. The old Accupoints have good glass quality and the 1-6 Accupoint and credo are good and the scope body disappears. PSA had the 1-6 red BDC for $750 it was a good deal.
Love your honesty and bluntness with your reviews!
Great review. As far as reticles go, if you like BDC or even good MIL, you might try Primary Arms GLX or PLX line of scopes. I can tell you that for both AK-7.62X39-300 BLK and their 5.56 and 308 holds are pretty much dead-on for BDC and wind dots.
Holy shit Nutnfancy lost a bunch of weight!
Good job Nutn! Keep the POU WROL FKOC WTFBBQ going buddy!

Lmao
I don’t want BDC dials or reticles. Give me MRAD in the reticle and a tactical turret. That way I can run 75/77gr and 55 or 62gr and adjust as required.
I got a used Burris mtac 1-4x for $250 that I've been extremely pleased with for the price. Used scope supremacy.
Ran my Mtac for like 10 years, great scope for the price. Maybe you have mine if you bought it off reddit! Take good care of her if ya did lol.
This is a perfectly timed review. I was thinking about getting one of these for a 11.5 pistol. Thanks!
I guess I’m fortunate to have picked up a 1-8 AccuPower when those were around. It’s basically the Credo, same reticle style, but larger objective lens and doesn’t have the Vaseline-vision issue.
I have the tritium illuminated TR-24 with triangle reticle and I love it
Great video as always. Couple things. I’m a huge fan of a fixed 4x with a rds piggyback. I run a leupold hamr with a 6moa delta point pro on top on my 16” colt m4 for a little over ten years. Chose the hamr over the acog for eye box and eye relief. Took a decent amount of time to get used to using the rds for a 1x but now I truly think it’s the best 0-500 yard option out there.
Also. I’m a dealer for one of - if not the best- optics manufacturers on the planet who pioneered the lpvo game and has been doing a 1-10 for more than a decade. I’d love to see you make a full review on one. Reach out if you’re interested

I find trijicon variable power optic reticles to be infuriating. They get so much right, I love the accu-point line. I’d love to use a 2-10 from that line. But the issues have had me considering swapping it out for something even slightly better.
I’m all about the red dot brightness on 1x. That’s the strength of having a LPVO that can be used a red dot with both eyes open imho.
You have to check out the Swampfox 1-10 Arrowhead. This is one of the best LPVO's for the money. The glass is really clear, no color shift, no fringing, the entire reticle lights up, the BDC is really nice, it is daylight bright if you want that, it is just amazing.
I'm an oddball, but I really liked the 1-4 Accupoint with the triangle. I get that the triangle is massive, but within 300 yards or so it's not that bad with some practice. I really just wish they'd make that but with a less obtrusive reticle. If they could make an Accupoint with an ACSS reticle, I don't think anyone could stop me from slapping my wallet open and throwing money at them.

I checked out the Amazon affiliated links.... You're right that is kind of funny.
The Trij 1-4 Accupoint has amazing image quality and great fiberoptic illumination. But the reticle is a kinda old school.
Yup! And the TR25 1-6x model improves upon that even more.
Amazing might be a stretch
I was considering getting this one. Mainly because of the 1-6, but I figured this would be the best for me for size. I'm glad you reviewed it and gave your honest opinion about it. That's probably why they're selling these for under 500 right now. I got my eye on a steiner p4xi right now. I think I'm going to get it since I can get it for alil over 600.
Damn, if I could find a steiner p4xi under 7 I would buy it IMMEDIATELY! Cheapest I can find those new are right at 800..... It's a shame they cranked up the price so much on them.
I use the same credo on an 18" AR I built with a white oak armament barrel. I use reloaded 75 grain Hornady rounds. The thing is a tack driver.
I have a primary arms 1-6 lpvo on my 16" wwsd build. I enjoy it
I bet Nutnfancy watches your channel. Your wording is concise
Unrelated to the topic at hand, but would love a video about shooting on public land. Considerations, site selection etc
1. Name is dumb 2. Gotta love spending over a thousand dollars to be massively disappointed.
I get why they felt the need to change it. Having the AccuPoint and the AccuPower was too confusing. But why "Credo" of all things...
@@Hoplopfheil Cringe marketing clearly works on gun owners
WOW! Thanks for saving me a lot of time and money!
That bad optical quality is crazy! I have a 1-6 trijicon accupoint and the image quality is excellent; I’d say it’s a half a step below the razor 1-6 I also have. I love it. The illumination is meh, but the weight, zero holding and optical quality are impressive.
Pretty interested in the new primary arms 1-8 PLxC.
Light weight, solid reticle (I already use and love the griffin mil for precision), more magnification for the long distances I have.
Well see if the glass quality is worth the 1500$ though. My 500$ viper is fine, besides being heavy.
Need more magnification than 4x for the mountains I live in, or else I would still have the acog.
I can’t wait for it to come out
That optical issue is so strange. I have been LPVO shopping and put hands on and used quite a few (Vudu 1-6, PSTII 1-6, Leupold Patrol 1-6x, to name a few), and the Credo 1-6. I’ll have to look through another one but I didn’t notice the same image smear occurring and I was looking through four competing LPVOs side by side
Funny piggy back has always worked way better than i thought.
I have the Trijicon Credo HX 1x6 MOA Segmented Circle and have not experienced your findings. Now I will have to look closer
I'd love to hear more about how you set up your SPR ranges. How many steel targets do you have out there, and what are thier ranges? I imagine terrain dictates the angles, but what are some of the most extremes you were able to shoot at?
Always pleasure Hop
I have the AccuPoint 1-4 and I really like its just the German post reticle with the green triangle so no BDC but for what I use it for it’s perfect. It’s like having a variable power ACOG with an awesome eyebox and very nice glass. I love it.
