Tom Guadalupe absolutely correct, people don’t want to see that, but it’s true most bands in today’s time even Hall of Fame bands themselves have been influenced heavily by kiss.
Not me! They were great. Nothing to technical for sure but great all the same. Four New York dudes runnin' on all cylinders. Just a great and glorious garage band.
@dbag0584 thanks I wasnt sure I was remembering right buy I knew it was after 96 as I remeber wathcing marilyn manson on mtv music awards in 97 with zim zum, it was my first experience so I remember it well.
It makes me happy seeing John so happy. He just seems like a really down to earth humble dude who is as kind as he is flamboyant. Every time I see him in an interview I gain even more respect for him.
@@Gurra88 well if you know anything bout John 5 and his love for Kiss yeah that video was pretty amazing of course unless you are a douche bag!!!!!!!!!!
Man is in his mid to late 40s here and he's like a kid at Christmas getting to touch that guitar. You can feel the happiness from him getting to play that piece of rock history.
You can tell that he played those riffs for thousands of times by himself! Not just beacase he is holding Paul Stanley's guitar, he legit sounds 100% same as KISS do! He already knows perfect tones and other arrangments for their songs... a true KISS fan!
Sounds of the 70s! brings back so many memories of my KISS tapes rocking a mono cassette player. Forget all the bits, high definition and what have you.. just pure raw sound. Love it.
The opening riff is one of the weirdest riff's of all time. It sounds so simple and I tried to learn it by ear and the nuances are a total BITCH. But, the tuning of the record is in semitones. It is not recorded in tune of Eb.
Off of the Eddie Kramer/Kiss masterpiece Rock N' Roll Over! Recently Kramer was on Eddie Trunk about the record and said he said he had goosebumps listening to this riff after Ace first played that opening riff.
Mr Speed! The first Kiss single I bought. Actually, it was the B side to Hard Luck Woman, but I must have listened to Mr Speed a thousand times when I was 9. ♥️
Thank you John 5. You validated my take on the solo from “DETROIT ROCK CITY”. My guitar teacher had me playing it a different way when I first started guitar years ago. You are an awesome player and the new Rob Zombie LP is great!
The first time I heard an interview from him was on Niki Sixx's "favorite riffs" a couple years ago, on UA-cam. He seemed really cool, and really down to Earth. Since then I've watched more stuff that I find with him, and I agree, is a cool guy.
Paul Stanley is a very underrated guitar player. His sense of pocket is second to none. KISS kicks ass, dont forget it kids.Hotter than Hell is the best riff
You're a legend John! So knowledgable and such a smooth player man, you're wicked. Every interview I've seen you in, you just come across as a real down to earth dude, and you're so open and honest. You definitely don't have a rock star ego. Rock on, bro, you're awesome!
John 5 is a KISS superfan. He has one of the largest collection of KISS memorabilia (from a specific Era) in the world in his garage. He could literally host a KISS museum if he wanted.
So cool to see John 5 play Paul's guitar and play KISS riffs !!!,,he knows who is a true guitar and Rock legend ,, wether it be rythym or lead, lots of people just want to hate on Paul Stanley !!!
*He cleared that in an interview, he said he was looking at the back of headstock because it had some beautiful engraving on it which read "Peter Parker is Spiderman!"*
they're actually really good musicians. but within the context of KISS they purposefully write catchier , easier on the ears riffs and songs. even in the 70s when pressed they could play at an elite level, they just chose not to. their philosophy is on record as being "keep it simple , stupid."
Ace Frehley is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. Some of the best vibratos and string bending I've ever heard, and even tapping before Van Halen. Plus he did all that great guitar work when he was drunk!
John 5 is such a great player of so many styles. First time I heard him was on the song "Slam Dunk" when he played for David Lee Roth in 1998. Holy shit, such a great display of guitar mastery.
Frehley hit his peak shortly before the drugs and alcohol took a hold of his life in the late 70's. He was getting better and better in the 70's and then hit a wall. The guy could've been something really special had he been able to control himself. He could come up with some of the catchiest guitar solos.
G.A.B. Its a shame he never really amounted to anything great. He could have been a millionaire with tons of awards and a army of fans behind him. Its crazy to think he might be sleeping on someone's couch right now or under a bridge
Only a true Kiss fan would break out Mr Speed
And Parasite.
Mr. Speed....great song!!!
D E E P cuts.
I LOVE Mr. Speed
And Parasite like he did :)
You can tell John 5 is a huge KISS fan...his excitement is genuine. Mr. Speed, yeah!! Great video-
You should see his house full of kiss stuff
Mr Speed is a badass song
Good catch
It's a source of continuous amazement to me how many great guitarists totally love KISS.
Peter Devlin i 100% agree lol
Ace Frehley has his way with influence.
Tom Guadalupe absolutely correct, people don’t want to see that, but it’s true most bands in today’s time even Hall of Fame bands themselves have been influenced heavily by kiss.
Meanwhile "music critics" and "music youtubers" hate kiss, that's some bad taste.

John 5 admires Paul Stanley's guitar. Paul Stanley admires John 5's coat.
Damage, Inc., Bahahahahahaha!!! That was hilarious!!!
becky snow, huh?

That coat is something Paul would definitely wear
Right on
I'm in my late 50's. I'm just discovering this John 5 guy... I think he's one of coolest people ever!
Agreed!
I just discovered him because he played on ace frehleys album origions vol.1 on I think it was him ad ace playing on the song parasite.
I must be showing my age . . . discovered super cool John 5 in "96 with

I can watch John play for hours. Hes probably one of my favorite guitarists
For everyone critiquing John 5, you realize he was handed this guitar and started playing KISS riffs by memory right? John 5 is a guitar legend.
So so underated as a guitarist!!!

There's nothing amazing about playing some random riffs you learnt.

I need a 10 hour version of Mr. Speed riff. That guitar sounds incredible.
That tone is instantly recognizable and perfect!
the iceman was always a favorite of mine when Stanley had the shattered mirror iceman, such a cool guitar!
The shattered mirror is my favorite one but this one is a close second
What a lovely coat. Perfect for playing a Paul Stanley guitar.

John 5 is one of the most talented artists I ever saw. The man can play any genre of music. Love that guy.
John 5, obviously a KISS fan from way back when. He captured the vibe as well as just playing the parts. Cool guitar too!
Pretty much played the soundtrack in my room growing up in the 70’s.
