    CARPEL TUNNEL SYNDROME WARNING! My hand surgeon told me that every time you smash the butt of your hand down on a knife to crush garlic, you are smashing the Carpel Tunnel nerve at the base of your hand which comes thru your wrist bones just there. Over time, you are badly damaging it. Instead, ball up your fist and smash the knife with the fatty OUTSIDE of your hand. Works just as well and is much safer. Happy cooking! Wonderful video too!

    The beauty in simplicity... This is a wonderful base recipe with limitless variations.. I make mine with Cabbage, Carrots, Onions, Celery, Garlic, Jalapenos, Canned Crushed Tomatoes, Chicken & Beef Stock... The fun part is just by changing up the seasonings, you can create different tastes that keep things from becoming repetitive.. Favorite Seasonings include Italian Herb Blend -- Old Bay -- Onion Powder -- Everglades Seasoning Salt -- Allspice -- Cajun Seasonings -- Franks or Crystals Hot Sauce etc.. Great Vid, thanks for posting!

    Made this today. It smells divine. Added some homemade chicken stock I had just made, also added fresh cauliflowerettes, leftover diced potatoes and some leftover creamed cauliflower. Tomorrow will add some leftover corn as well. Used some fresh herbs, hot sauce, a dash of red wine vinegar, some anchovie paste from a tube, some basil in tube and a tablespoon of sugar. (always with tomatoes.) I only used 1 can of tomatoes. And then hit the scales and see what happens.

      @SavorySaver  2 роки тому +1

      So glad you liked the recipe. The potatoes sound like a nice addition to add a little more bulk to the soup. If I remember correctly when I shot that video I’m probably using a great big cutting board. It was custom-made and is Corian countertop. I love cutting on it because it’s easy to clean and doesn’t seem to hold a whole lot of stains but it can be a little bit hard on the knives. They require a little more sharpening than normal because of the hardness of the cutting board. It was made locally by someone in North Carolina where I am from. I’m not sure if he is still in business or not. Thank you for watching!

      ive seen the diet where you eat pretty much just this and fruits for a solid week. They say to wait 3 weeks before doing it again because this is not a good substitute for a balanced diet. Im sure you could have this several times a week with no issue though.
      One problem with the 7 day diet is that since you lose so much weight so fast your body goes into fat storage mode. So in the weeks after most people will just gain all that weight back since your body thinks it was in starvation mode and it will slow down your metabolism. make sure you exercise, keep a healthy diet and cut down on the calories. good luck!

If you choose the chopped, bagged kale, be aware that they chop the stems as well, which will never cook down. I plan to go back to bunch kale in the future.

    Hi! I just went to your "Recipe Link" above and really appreciate all the info including the different ways to cook, including Slow Cooker and Instant Pot. I can't wait to get to the grocery with my list so I can make this. I remember when it was called the "Dolly Parton Diet Soup". That really shows my age. :~)
    Now, can I ask an off topic question? Where did you get your spoon you used to stir the soup? And while we are at it, the knife you used to cut up the veggies? The spoon is very similar to one I use and love, but can not find one to replace it. I like the more pointed end of the spoon bowl. Most it seems today most are rounded and thick. Silly, I know to be so attached to a spoon. And I am always interested in the knives used on these videos as I don't have a very good set of knives of my own. OK... that's all. Except Thank you for a wonderful video and I am now Subscribed and will get all notifications since I clicked the "bell"... Or should I say, "Rang" the bell... LOL...

    • @SavorySaver
      @SavorySaver  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for subscribing. lol...That's one name for the soup I'd not heard before. I totally get being attached to a utensil. I think the spoon is about 20 years old at this point. I'm sure I got it at walmart or dollar tree.I use it more than any other spoon when cooking. I don't know what I'm gonna do when I break or melt it:) The knife is a santoku rachael ray knife. I don't think they make that specific knife anymore but you want to look for a santoku style knife. Mine is a 5" or 7" blade I think. I find the style easier for me to handle as opposed to a chefs knife. I'll try to start linking more items like that in my video. Thank you so much for your comments!

    Adding protein is important. This is not a sustainable diet unless you add amino acids. Don't add the carrot until the end. The glycemic index increases from 17 to over 70 when cooked for these guys. Add Konjac noodles and protein to supplement your health. Tofu or lean meats. Also high protein, low fat cottage cheese thickens the soup and adds to the feeling of fullness. Raw grated carrot is also very filling. Add simple spices such as pepper, turmeric, cumin, cayenne pepper, paprika and chilies. No mixed spices. Garlic and ginger. Add low fat, high protein Greek Yoghurt at the end - no more than 100 grams per litre.

    I often hear people say or see on labels that things are gluten free. Is there usually or ever wheat product in beef, chicken or vegetable bouillon or stock?

    • @jamiemadore1885
      @jamiemadore1885 3 роки тому

      As odd as it seems, yes there can be gluten in broths, stocks and bouillon. I see it more often in bouillon as opposed to cartons and cans of broths and stocks but read labels even on products you’ve purchased before to make sure the brands haven’t changed their recipes

    • @lindafrancey7086
      @lindafrancey7086 3 роки тому

      Yes, there likely is gluten in most store bought broths. However, more grocery stores are carrying gluten free broths. Campbell's broths have a vegetarian broth, and now a gluten free chicken broth. I've had to switch to these, as my daughter is gluten sensitive. Bulk Barn, Superstore, and Farm Boy carry gluten free broths.

    Yes this recipe been around since the 1970s! I ate it night and day for 21 straight days and the only thing I lost was my ability to eat cabbage! I am awfully allergic to whatever chemical reaction happens when you cook cabbage with anything. Which is fine with me I never did like cabbage very much anyway. I never recommend this awful soup to anyone. Try apple cider vinegar it’s much tester and simple and quick to use and for me works wonderful. For you you’ll have to try it yourself! Perhaps it’s better now than it was in 1980 when I ate it every day for 21 days and didn’t lose any significant amount of weight (5 lb’s) and all it did was make me very very sick! So perhaps today’s spices it would be better but I am not taking a chance on trying it!

    I ought a bag of chopped kale to add, as I didn't have quite enough cabbage. The kale leaves cooked beautifully . I've been eating it daily for lunch for about 45 years. If you choose the chopped, bagged kale, be aware that they chop the stems as well, which will never cook down. I plan to go back to bunch kale in the future.
