Thanks for keeping it simple, another channel no name but initials start with paint society makes over complicates things. Thanks again awesome job
From a guy that grew up in a auto body shop I agree and approve
Its probably worth mentioning the grits in the video seem to be FEPA or EURO standard. Past 100 grit the US system of measuring grit starts to deviate from the EURO grit measurements. For example EURO 800 is somewhere between US 400 and 500. There are lots of good conversion charts online. Just something to consider.
Perfect! Thanks A lot for this information , it’s No BS just straight to the point on what I’m surfing for.

So how did it come out???
It would be great a video on primers and fillers. Which to use in different situation, paint over paint, dents, spots with no paint etc.
Nice video brother so helpful to know we'll done!
Hi Dave, please make a video about type of primers and their applications. There is a lot of confusion about epoxy primer. Loving your videos, keep them coming.
Thanks for the educational video great content indeed
You're the man!!
Thank you so much! this was so helpful!!!!
Brilliant... Thank you.
Mate great video....
Thanks for that details ☺
Great tips
80 grit pre body filler, 240 Pre primer, 600 Grit pre paint, 800 grit if re painting over previous primer, 1200 Grit for Orange peel, 1500,2000,3000 for clear, Instead of watching the whole video there you go
Dude Thank You
I got 1:27 "80 -> 150 -> 240..."
Ur a legend
@@Steel_the_Freeme too.
Haha screen shot so I remember this👍👍
U sir are a legend
excellent mate
Put everything in prospective thanks man.
I would love a video on primer. not sure what primer to use for custom spray cans and a 2k clear spray can.
I use Rustoleum 2 in 1 filler and sandable primer. It works great for auto body. You can get it at Waltmart for $5.27 a can.
Awesome
Legend. Thanks
Killer job explaining stuff. I cant even tell you how many different videos I've watched on UA-cam. I can useally get a general concession on what to do 50 videos will say to do 50 different things. I can rebuild an engine no problem but making things look good. Ive always suck at. I got a great eye for detail but me doing it been a different story. Im going to try to paint my 65 Chevy C10 halfway through it it's coming out better than I thought so far.Its mainly to see if there's a chance that I can paint my 72 Camaro myself. I'm starting to think that I might be able to.i made a little mistake on the bed when it dried i could see so sanding scratches under the paint.im hoping the clear coat will cover it. If it was my Camaro id take it back down to metal but I cant do that right now. Thanks for the information. you have helped me out already.
awsome bro
Super!
Thank you
Legend Dave thanks so much for putting this up! i have a question, if im doing a quick color change over a painted panel and it has some stone chips how do i prep those before spraying if i don't want to prime the whole panel?
Dave upload about Matt finish
Well, I agree that there is a wide variety of choices people make on sandpaper grits. I have used and taught beginning technicians to use the following. I agree to start with 80 grit before applying body filler, but not 120 grit. I see no purpose for 120 grit. My next step sanding the body filler is with 180 grit on a block ( you may choose to shape the body filler first with 80 grit), but make sure to guide coat it to and follow with 180 grit. No use for 150 or 240 grit as I move to 320 grit, which easily removes the 180 grit scratches. I go over the 320 scratches with 400 grit on a D.A. sander. From there I would agree with the rest of his choices regarding prep for solid colors or metallics. So, I say 80, 180, 320, and 400 are all you need up to final prep for paint. No 120, 150, or 240. And, use a guide coat between each change of grits. Again, this is my view, many other may disagree.

WET SANDING VS DRY QUESTIONS
1.When would you use wet sanding over dry sanding
2. what’s the difference in results when wet sanding vs dry
Hey man I've been watching your videos for the past like 5 or 6 hours after seeing the first one and the work I've seen you do is amazing I started painting about a year ago starting with just cans and I got pretty decent just by trial and error and learning by myself and recently I just bought a turbine and decent gun but I've been having one problem that I can't really seem to figure out and was hoping maybe you could do a video on it for some reason after I spray my primer and my base coat I go to do my second base coat and in one little spot I keep getting what some people call alligatoring I know it can be caused by a few different things and I addressed those issues but I still keep having the same problem hope you can give me some advice or possibly make a short video on it thanks man and keep up the videos I believe your tips and techniques will help me out a lot
Paul Mcnie hey mate. Send me some images of your problem. Facebook or email customspraymods@gmail.com
@@customspraymods unfortunately I already sanded it down but I'll see if I have a picture or if I can fine one online
Do a video on mix ratios for the different paints and for clear..

I came looking for copper, and I found gold
I have a bumper that has a 14" section with dime-sized paint chipping off down to the primer. I was thinking of using an orbital sander and just repainting the whole bumper but not sure what grit to use for the chipped area.
Can you pls advice:
I have a panel that's brought down to bare metal using 40grit. Now it has 40grit scratches. NO bodywork or fillers required. Just 1k or 2k primer and paint.
Question: Do I need to sand the bare metal further with 80 right up to 240 grit before spraying the primer? thanks
I went straight to 120 grit on plastic what grit gets rid the scratches after the basecoat has been applied? altho they arnt as noticable than on aluminium.
Can you do 600 grit for flow coating clear coat
You said it is better to prime a coated surface when changing colors? Is it special primer or the one used over bare metal would work just fine?
What grit sand paper to use if just want to paint over small scratches.
What grade is sandpaper do I need to sand my car down to the primer, please help
What grit would you suggest on headlights. I was hoping to do 320, 400, 600, 800 then shoot it with 2k clear from a rattle can and sand it with 800 and apply a second and then 3rd coat. All very light to medium coat.
Milan Patel when I do it I just use 800g or 1000g then just 2 coats of clear is all that is needed.
If you were to do rims that are already painted black and you wanted to do them a bright colour; what grit superfine sponge would you use if you wanted to prime it, get white ontop and then the colour of choice?
CYka Nayui fine is best mate
Hey Dave, thanks for all the awesome video's. I'm getting ready to spray my car roof. Do I need to sand or buff after I finish the colour coat, before I put down the clear acrylic? Or only after I do the clear acrylic? I'm thinking if my colour coat has orange peel I should sand and then clear it. What do you recommend? Thanks mate!
Rad Clifford hello do not sand and buff your colour coat. If you want to get a perfect finish sand and buff the clear.
@@customspraymods Thanks for the response bro, you're channel really rocks! What if I get orange peel with the colour coat? As I'm probably going to use a Blackridge spray Gun so I'm expecting a bit of orange peel. Happy new year man!
The clear will give you enough body to cut and buff. Sanding the colour can have an affect on the colour especially if it's metallic.
@@customspraymods Awesome. Thanks heaps man. I'll have to drop in and check out your store and have a go of your classes next time I'm in Sydney.
I couldn't get paint done today and I've had dew settle on an area that had only body filler on it. Do you reckon I'm going to have to sand it back and start again? Wish I had a garage...
Hello, quick question. When u were talking about sanding the primer before paint, u said, " u go 240, than primer, let dry, than go 400g, than 800g wet." So does that mean u don't sand with wet with 400g? 2:03
CiLbu P yes both 400 wet and 800wet.
So what grit do I use when sanding primer to smooth
400g and then 800g
how would you fix oxidation painted car
Turtle wax compound
Question, if I'm not using body filler, do I just sand my small rust spot with 120 , then 240 then just go to primer ? Or should I sand th3 rust down with 240 from the getgo before I add primer if I'm not using body filler ?
If 240g does the job that's fine. Then go to primer. Otherwise whip out the 120👍👍
@@customspraymods so 80-120 isnt so much for prepping for body filler, its just to literally get the rust off?
so basically i can just stick to the same steps you said and just skip the body filler and continue to 240 after 120 then put the primer on and so forth and so on ?
@@killertofu yep that's right.
We miss the hand span mannnn
customspraymods Hello mate...when you say dry paper is it still wet and dry paper..but used dry ? or is it a different dry kind of paper.
Thanks
Supernube hey it’s different
@@customspraymods Hmmm I'm using wet and dry ..dry.
Will it still be ok... is there a particular kind of dry paper used for automotive work ?
Hey mate, is these grit Also applicable when painting using aerosol can?
Yes
Only use before painting with spray can
Thanks, but manufacturer suggest different grit on their website, ie: 400 or 800 before Prime (over media already painted). On this video he suggest 240 before primer.
Why can't we wet sand bro ?
Sweet thanks bro needed that info for my next project. Now let's talk about something a little more different I got a car I need to strip to bare metal can you do a video on strippers and which ones to avoid and which a better aye mate much appreciated.
same
I'll do that next mate
Thanks mate that would be a awesome video
customspraymods does acrylic need to be taken to bare metal to do a 2pak paint job?
