DIY Egg carton Fire Starter for Top Down Fire in Jotul 118 clone

Canola cooking oil and egg carton lid make a good easy fire starter accelerant. This works great for the top down fire set up and shown hear on a vintage non epa Jotul 118 clone wood stove.

This is a Jotul 118 Clone so similar but not exactly the same as an original Jotul. Also it is not an EPA stove and has no secondary burn tubes or baffles. I’ve only used it occasionally and with wood that is not near In quality to the hardwoods like oak I burn in the F 400. So I don’t really have a good comparison for you. They burn quite differently. The F 400 burns more cleanly. The 118 probably can do a longer burn as it burns front to back like a cigar. Sorry I’m not more helpful.
