Riding Dumb Lines at Rays Indoor Bike Park

- Every year I like to make a trip to Rays indoor mountain bike park to escape the winter for a moment and goof off. I was planning on making a video, but it was a bit too busy and I wanted to just enjoy hanging out with my friends who I don't get to see very often, but we did get a few iPhone clips. I don't ride skateparks and Dirt jumps much these days, so half my time at rays is re-learning how to ride these things.

People often wonder where I go in the winter, and to be honest, I enjoy taking a break from riding. That being said, I've been posting trail building videos on my second channel, these videos are much different from what you'll find here, but some people say they actually like them more than my riding videos www.youtube.com/@PhilsWorld/videos
I didn't know you had spun the trailwork off into a second channel. I know Trailwork vids don't usually get as much love as POV, but I dig them, (No pun intended.)
I've mentioned it a few times, but it's often buried in my long form content. Anyway, the other channel is more or less"not bike riding" videos. Right now it's primarily trail building but I'm trying to give myself a bit more free reign over there with what I post and how I edit.

Was super cool and a pleasure to meet you an Haley. Cant believe we rode around the same place all day and I never seen you till the end of day. Really wish I could have rode with you. Oh well maybe next time. Glad your trip went well, keep makin cool vids. :)

Looks like you all had a blast! Ray's is so much fun! I was there around Christmas.
We wanted to go a few weeks before, but there was a decent snowstorm and after that otherthings ended up coming up. Glad we finally made it though.
That outdoor track is so fun. Glad they expanded on it
Yeah, it was a very cool place, lots of people there pretty early in the AM. We watched a few people eat it on the whale tale because it was still frosty, so that's the only thing I didn't really touch much.

Old guy with a lot of things to say.
First, I admire the skills displayed. I never even thought of riding on a wall, riding wheelies around like that. I've ridden thousands of miles per year at times and never did stuff like that. Bouncing on one wheel, front, back, go in different directions on one wheel, no difference to standing still to you guys. WAY COOL.
Second, In my right knee, there's a chip or tear that every once in a while catches and my knee locks up. I injured that 50 years ago playing hockey, took a puck to the knee, and every time it locks up I remember that game. It was a great game, a glorious time. Keep riding. Hell, I was still playing pond hockey in my 40's.
Third, I hear so much from guys your age that us boomers ruined the economy for you young guys. Those hockey skates were hand me downs from the neighbors until we got a job at 16 and bought our own. We did not grow up in glorious times. We had gas shortages, war, nuclear accidents and incidents. Hell, for a week we wondered if half of Pennsylvania would ever be habitable. We were lied to and cheated, just like any other generation. Please step up to the plate with the same dedication you have in riding when it is time to raise a family. Do that in it will be as good as a great day riding every day.

That place looks well designed. They are building an asphalt pump track here in Saratoga Springs this spring/summer with dirt jump lines and a skills course. Love seeing communities investing in this type of stuff. Glad to see a new upload. Hope you had a good winter off!
Rays is just the oddest place in the best way possible. I'm really glad it exists.

Crazy how long you can maintain momentum with little pedalling. Smooth and efficient!
The first thing I learned to do on a bike was ride BMX style dirt jumps and pedaling was frowned upon so you're forced to get good at pumping. That's transitioned with me to all parts of my riding, and it's why I still hate pedaling to this day :P
YUM! Steak, egg and cheese bagels are the best things at McDonalds! Plus, you can collect the 90wt gear oil that drips off your elbow and use it as a suspension fluid in your shock!
I haven't had a steak egg and cheese since pre-covid. Not that I go often, but all the regional Maccas stopped carrying them. And you aren't wrong about the grease haha!
The pumptrack by Rays is really good. Lots of good roller lines that I feel you can link together better (for doubling, transfers, etc). I thought the Velo park was ok, but ... if you get the chance check out the one by rays, I bet you'll dig it.

Guess I'm pretty lucky to live about 10mins away from a velosolutions pump track - they've had it closed all winter though, looking forward to trying it out once it opens back up

I don't do much 3rd person stuff, skatepark situations make that sort of filming easier, but I also know not everybody wants to be filmed or part of a video. I try to keep it real and not film everything 24/7
Just for inspiration purposes we have left our cat home for 5 days strait! I know that it is nerve racking though. But Great video love the trails your building!
I hate that faster route thing, i only want it if there’s 4 hours worth of sitting in a standstill to avoid. Always switches on ya when you want to take the scenic route
Next time you visit Rays' you guys should checkout the new asphalt pump-track they built at the community park right next to Ray's! The pump track is by the opposite parking lot entrance from where you guys arrived. If you pause at 2:22 , it's behind the white building on the left side of the screen.

I am in NO WAY a *HATER* but.... I do like seeing PROs struggle at small stuff like Fakies etc.. (Matt Jones, Phill Kmetz....)
It just makes feel better about my limited skill set at certain ride styles.. 🤠
I think that's more true than you realize! Most pro Enduro/DH racers look like a fish out of water in a skatepark setting. The opposite is also true, but often times people just assume all good riders are good at everything and that's often far from the truth. My weakness has always been technical street skills. Fakies, reverts, wheelies, lip tricks, I can do a few of those okay, but in general it's not my thing.

It was my go to roadtrip breakfast sandwich and since the pandemic started they seemed to stop carrying them by me. I was pretty surprised they actually had it.

Cleveland Metro park cliffs bike park and it's about 15 minutes away. Though another commenter suggested that there is a new asphalt pump track literally 1 minute from rays at the Mercedes cotner park too
What vehicle are you driving? Seems to be compact but able to fit bikes.
If you're already riding in OH, there's a SWEEEET free bike park in Lebanon, OH (north of Cincinnati)..

ok i was driving across country. i was in oklahoma and my stupid phone wanted to go a completely different route than i wanted to go. it wanted me to head toward I-40 and i wanted to go to US 60. i wented to cross into new mexico so i could go across the aray valley. it's huge area with satellite dishes all over it. well the stupid phone wanted me to go via I-40 and i just hate driving that road. the phone kept telling how it wanted me to go. i knew where i was going but still it kept directing me to go the wrong way. i finally had to turn the phone off until i got out of oklahoma. i have been hope for these smart phone to learn from us instead of keep trying to directing us to where it wants us to go. i live in arizona and driving here is crazy. i try and stay off the interstate highway system. you would figure these phones would learn your driving habits and direct us a little better. i know they can see trouble way ahead of us that we can't see or even know about. talk to your friend justin up there in vermont about me.
Oh I definitely get frustrated at technology when it's not working as it's intended. Half way through the drive it thought we were driving on a parallel side road and kept re-routing us , and even when we got off the highway at rays it completely lost track of where we were. I don't remember this happening as much in the past, seems to be a newer thing.
