I love that tool. Never used one. Never even seen one in real life. But, I love it. I was a concrete guy for ten years and have the busted up hands, back, knees, soul, etc. to show for it. My hands still ache to this day. If I were still doing that work I would definitely buy one of these. I'm just glad it exists. I think it's friggin amazing!
With adjustable extension handle you dont need even bend , for home use these are expensive , and the biggest cost still is not the tool its the wire .
I would like to know if all the different manufacturers wire reels are same , when there are several brands and some sold only in 40 - 50 reel boxes .
Makita pricing is a mystery , depending where you buy it , you may get only one tool in one country with the price that you get 2 tools in a other country .
I saw a single man wiring a 40 yard bridge rebar in early morning near my house, when I get back at 12hs the job was finished! Who already done this knows that it's a nasty repetitive job that make all bones of your hand in pain. Expensive but amazing tool.
Im an apprentice, we did a foundation extension in my first 3 months of work. We bought one of these, it never held anything tight when tying the rebar. So we all did it by hand anyway

You are on fire with the Makita Reviews. Very happy as a Makita man myself. These are under $2k Ausd (skin only) here in Oz which is less than I was expecting. Or you can get a Chinese Ebay version for $275. Wonder how many minutes that will last.
Got a link for the chinese version?

Finally got the tying tool, now it's time for the cordless kettle.
Don't know if I'll bother with that one.
We work on concrete structures a lot and tying rebar and cages is one of the least liked jobs. This would make it much more interesting, faster and easier. Though the managment thinks its a waste because of the absurd pricing of the reels.
Tell your boss the increase in productivity should cover the cost.
Tell your boss he's a nickeldick!!!
Tell your boss he's penny wise, pound foolish. Not sure where you're from. Over here employers pay for sick leave and retraining of employees who are in some way incapacitated for a certain job. This incentivises employers to provide decent working conditions. Add to that the increased speed, increased motivation, etc. from using this tool.
@@leegarnier9396 My boss is my dad. We're a small construction company with 5 workers, and we already have a lot of tools. We have invested over 10000 euros just on cordless tools, not to mention the new professional concrete vibrator and generator by wacker neuson. We bought a ladder crane as well. All that just in these last 8 months. We do invest a lot, its just that the availability of the spools is not very good here in croatia. Plus they are expensive too. Im sure we'll have a pair once we grow bigger but now its very difficult to justify it give the lack of availability, price, and how much money we have already spent and we need to make that money back. Again, we are just 5 people.
Amazing demonstration 😊
thx for showing us how this tool works, i did some tighing rebar manually, it's ok but not for doing it big time
Just bought this tool used, as in spring a new concrete season for replacing foundations on my old farm will take place. And I hate rebar tying, head down in the pitch
My company has one of those, haven't used it super much as I work as a surveyor. But some at least, and I must say I don't feel eny difference between the makita and the max tiers we rent.
The max tiers tie a bit tighter, but that's with a small margin.
Yup that's true :) the max rebartier is Abit tighter :)
max tie guns will do a million ties without fucking out, the makita one pretty much comes faulty out the box, no prejudice either, 90% of my tools are makita
@@ryanjohnson6880 looks like it as well. The makita one looks like a toy compared to the max twintier. Makia make a good rebar shear/cutter. Cuts 12mm bar like butter.
This is a beast…. I love it…. Fast… easy…. It does a job of 5 guys…. Makita made a home run…. I wish there are mor companys making this wire….,
Makita now make a better one.

Sorry for my bad english
i agree! - that IS a very cool tool. so i wonder how we could build one that was a little cheaper
Good review
Is Makita's plan for the XGT line to release all industrial grade tools before any essential tools every shop should have beside the circ saws and drills already out? Where are the cordless routers, jigsaws or sanders? I hope they didn't get people to early adopt and then make them wait years for the rest of the basic tools. The XGT offerings just seem all over the place without any real logic. Would love to see a kit with a basic shop kit with a circ saw, hammer drill driver, impact driver, jig saw, router and a sander with a couple batteries, seems like a great way to get people to buy in.
Rebar tier in max brand is the go. These look like atoy just on face value. The makita bar cutter is the go. Saves breathing in the dust and noise from grinding.
I've tied rebar and if it works awesome all day every day worth every penny I can't see any machean holding up to a every day all day rod buster but I can see small concrete co that dose small cages and rebar hear and their when I tied rods in Ironworks we didn't have time to stretch your back and wipe your sweat of your brow let alone a gun getting jamed up and needing to maintain it covered in rust dirt mud and water and every other thing
I’ve used this tool a lot over the last 18 months. It is the most frustrating tool I deal with on site. Yes it is the fastest way to tie, but the amount of ties you have to adjust or redo, coupled with the amount of jams make me want to throw it off a cliff every day I use it. Just endless endless issues. Even had to replace one and still the same deal. Also there a a lot of spots you need to tie that you just can’t fit the gun head into or around. I hate this tool.
They are bringing out a new one.
Ya this one was bad enough i have little confidence in another but hopefully the next one is great. We had one of these and one max twin tier this time last year. Now we have 5 max tiers and the makita is on a shelf somewhere. The main issues were the opening being too small, the wire was too thin, joints loose and weak, and constant jaming.
Is it the newest one you have? I've seen a big difference between old and new version, but nothing beats max tool, a friend of mine has one that's almost ten years old and still working perfect
But you are comparing a $1500 tool against a $6000 tool so expecting a diy or builder grade unit to keep up against heavy construction gear that is made to go all day every day without failure is a bit unfair on makita in this case.
This tool is good for flat work not for big walls
Is there an extender so you can use it standing upright?
Yes
Super we want to buy.
Something else! 😆 joke's good stuff.👍🏾😉
Yes man
What are you talking about? I tie rebar around the house all the time. Really upsets my wife having random tied rebar lying around ...
Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred
Jim you crack me up. Lol
Could you reload the spools manually without buying a new one?
If you really wanted to.
6:25 wait what? Does it really just stop if you take your finger off the trigger? That seems like crappy design. I would think that the way it works if that as soon as you press the trigger, it's going to do a full one regardless? It's not like it's an old fashioned switch which controls the power. It's just going to be a GPIO pin on the CPU, and then the CPU is going to decide what to do. So why even let it stop randomly?
No doubt it's for safety, in case something goes wrong and you want it to stop immediately. But at 0.8 seconds for a full tie it does make you wonder what difference it could make by being able to stop it early.
You would have to tie a lot of steel to recoup your investment - and only 120 ties per 10 dollars plus tool cost plus batteries and charging and wear and tear - having hand tied for 20 years , not something for the handyman or the average concretor . See Legend-Kills comment below.
Nice! Have you ever heard of the ryobi Bid 11-xr impact driver? I think there made by kyocera with ryobi name they also have the first gen bid 10- xr would like to see your thoughts or test the new ryobi bid11-XR . Btw it's made in japan and under 4in!

@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL It's o.k., you can have Rolf.
Lamington. 🤣😂
We don't really want him.
I've worked in civil doing piling and had a few jobs with a lot of steel fixing work, that is honestly a godawful tool and would not have even fit in our steelwork.
Why?
maybe not good for you but for people that do rebar on floorings
Makita needs to stop releasing garbage redundant tools like this one hoping people will buy them just because they have batteries. There are way better rebar tieing tools out there like the newest Max Twintier. The Makita ties ugly joints, doesn't tie them hard and wastes too much reel doing so. If you buy this then Makita will probably release a new upgraded version the next day... like they did with their multi-tools (first 2 were rubbish) and countless other models whilst other manufactures release a proper version first go.
Have a snickers mate
Woah, Makita didn't do as well as the guys who invented the automatic rebar tier (and have been making them almost 30 years) on their first try. What a travesty.
And ofc they're going to come out with more models. This tier was only ever meant for 3/8"-5/8" rebar and is definitely as good as the equivalent Max 397/398, probably slightly better since this Makita is a lot less prone to jamming and the initial wire feed is easier.
Max has had multiple models with varying tie capacities in their product stack for forever. Max still has product support for the old ass 655 which uses Nicad batteries on their own website....because it had a higher tie capacity than the original Twin Tier (and they just came out with another Twin Tier with similar tie capacity to the 655)....so what was your point again?
I have max and makita and the max has never given me any problems never jams but the makita jams all the time if it doesn't break 5 minutes into a job the are not worth buying even if they were half the price max has the absolute best tiers on the market
There’s no point in talking about price…
So the price is $ 10 dollars ….
Not tight enough
First!
Sorry dude you were actually 2nd.
Guys don't ever buy it I have one it has been nothing but trouble it's the worst tool makita ever made it's a piece of junk and makita never held up there end of the warranty when it broke within the first month of using it
never had a problem with ours.
It's less prone to jamming and feeding the initial wire on a new spool than a Max 518 is. Although the Max is the much easier tier to use since the large jaw capacity makes it so much more forgiving.
It probably didn't break but just jammed. But cleaning your tool is too much of a hassle. Less effort to spew your venom on the internet i guess
@@dominicvanlievenoogen6407 it broke besides jamming all the time
