    Yes! I remember you or someone else said this too, the grip! This grip is amazing man, love it! You won't slip a drop of water on the grip!

    Any knife will scratch when used on hard materials.

    i like how you review a good amount of details of the knife to cover most of the features.

    you can find it at a home improvement store usually, home depot or lowes. I used Klean-Strip Aircraft Paint Remover. I broke up the finish slightly to allow it to maybe work in under the coatin a bit better. and then i scrubbed with a copper brush to remove the rest after soaking. Won't scratch up the surface like sanding will.

    Thanks man~ glad you like it! I am a CS fan, but then their coating really piss me off, it makes you want to buy TWO of each black coating knives.. why? one for keep, one for use, hahaha! My student's recon1 is all F'd up in no time with normal use and end up he just sand off the black and go bare steel, dang!! Kabar's coating is better, but not come sharp like CS, not "AS" sharp.

    that such a great knife, sharp out of the box, as strong as a crowbar, and the grip feel strong.

    I noticed they seem to be made in Japan now. Mine was made in USA, but it's over ten years since I bought it, I think.

    Pit some cold blue on the scratches. Then, dab them with oil. Looks almost new.

    Airplane paint stripper. It's on another level. Comes in a tin can. It's kind of a loose jelly like consistency, you don't want to touch it or breathe it though.

  • @Chiinnature
    @Chiinnature  11 років тому

    yes I remember you talking about the stonewash too! paintstripper?

  • @shockwavecity
    @shockwavecity 11 років тому

    I would strip the coating off of that tanto. Cold steel actually puts a nice stonewash on under it (i think I've mentioned this before in comments).

    dang, that seems like a very expensive thing! where do you find that?

  • @kyleeaton2717

    Do you know if there is a way of removing the black coating from the Cold Steel blades safely without damaging the steel underneath?

    • @Chiinnature
      @Chiinnature  7 років тому

      sandpaper, did it myself, or paint remover

      Thank you for the reply, I subbed to you and I enjoy your content. I've never owned a sword and I did hours and hours of research through all categories and I've been looking to buy this sword here but it has a black blade and there is no regular version of it for some odd reason. I wish more than one person had a review of it on the entirety of UA-cam :( www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=CS88WSLFM&name=Cold+Steel+-+Man+At+Arms+Collection+-+La+Fontaine+Sword+of+War

    Man, You are my new Favorite knife reviewer. I truly look forward to many more reviews. PS, I agree. Cold Steel is great but their blade coating sucks giant balls.

    search up "Flashlight Expert"'s channel and PM him, he is the guy I go for blades, just ask him and see if he can come back with a quote~

    I only own 1 black coated knife. On most knives, i think a good stonewash or bead blast looks a lot better. Sometimes coatings can even increase thickness enough to hinder cutting ability (on the extreme end). If we're talking carbon steel, a decent mil-spec coating is worth it, but as for almost 100% of other knives, I'll pass.

  • @Chiinnature

    Fun~ I think I know how to do it! Let me check home depot in the future when I need to nuke the coatings!

    Nice Recon knife interesting vid! but do you know if the GI tantO could match this version :)

  • @shockwavecity
    @shockwavecity 11 років тому

    i wouldn't sand them, i'd slightly break up the finish and then use some kind of really nasty airplane stripper.

    Say Heah, Zxi Zxi, But don't you think a cheap knife in stainless will do as good ?

    • @Chiinnature
      @Chiinnature  8 років тому +1

      if we are just cutting fruits and veggies, oh ya, but if you are talking about abuse with stabbing metal such, I don't want to hold a cheap knife and risk my own hand bing stabbed by the broken bits tho.

    Jesus loves you and died for your sins.
