To some extent, you shot an ASMR video with this knife (in a good way). It was nice to see, even though I've been familiar with this knife for a long time, and I know about its capabilities)
I wouldn't call the recon tanto a survival knife. But it is a monster. I remember them using it to stab a metal truck hood and 55 gallon drums over and over and it didn't break. But the shape doesn't naturally lend itself to survival. I'd recommend something like the Gerber StrongArm instead.
Agree, own the carbon v recon tanto going on 30 years now and this video is a testament to its durability even though its intended use is combat. I do believe the old owner stated he wanted to ensure the soldiers had an affordable option with no compromises. For survival, Id go with the CS Survivalist or for half the price a CS Black Bear Bowie. I'm eying the CS Republic Bushcraft as it is made in USA to match my carbon v recon tanto that price is hard to convince so I have to find something that cost more for her she wants.
Ive had a recon tanto for over 30 years. Its taken all of the abuse an outdoorsman can give it and i never had a problem. I even let my idiot buddy hit it repeatedly with a 16 ounce hammer and it didn't break.a carbon 5 recon tanto is a bulletproof knife,i don't think ill ever need a new one.
This knife is a thing of beauty and very functional. I especially like the "blue steel" finish. Thanks for sharing.
Expert testing!! Every single test showed me something I needed to know, thanks.
Picture speaks a thousand words, enough said!

The CS recon tanto is a much better knife than the strongarm is in terms of quality and especially price to quality ratio.

You need to view JoeX's review of this knife. It can be broken!
