Vinushka. Specifically a live version. There's a version with english subs on the channel named Kaya. Kaya does translations of this bands music. It was uploaded about 3 years ago and you'll know if it's the right video if there's a bomb in the background.
Vinushka is an about 10 minute song and it came out on their 2008 album (Uroboros) and it is the opening track of it.
Vinushka tackles war and the like.
Vinushka also basically covers most of his range as a vocalist. From the super low gutteral sounds all the way up to his operatic highs.
I've been following this band for close to 5 years and out of those 5 years a total of... 3 vocal teachers have looked at the band. Which I consider to be blasphemy considering how insanely talented this band is and how vocally excellent they are.

His voice is definitely nuts. Some suggestion
Rinkaku for high vocals and falsetto
Differend sense or Decayed Crow for pure brutalness
Kaishun, Tosei or Rununculas for pure singing voice and emotional performance
Marmalade Chainsaw for mixing every type of voice he can do

This dude has possibly the widest range in the world but that can depend on how you choose to define range (some people wouldn't consider growling part of a vocal range, etc.). But he's up there even just with normal singing. This song isn't even one that people recommend to show off his range and was written in 2003 but his range really exploded somewhere around 2011. Vinushka live from Androgynous is a good recommendation but I would be interested in seeing anything from this band or his other bands.

I just fell in love with you xD Sadly that was the end, yes, but they've been around for 26 years now so you can get more whenever you want :) Thanks to how versatile this band is and thanks to the fact that the vocalist [his name is Kyo] sings in two other bands, you also don't need to assume he can sing everything - you can hear him actually do just that ^^ He's also the lyricist for all three bands and he's mostly tackling quite uncomfortable feelings so it never gets truly light-hearted but sometimes, most often with his band sukekiyo, it gets juxtaposed with very fun and uplifting music [but they are very experimental and have done everything from incredibly beautiful ballads, jazzy type of songs with spanish guitars and violyre to 80s pop and electronic music].
I basically agree with every song suggestion made in the comments so far ^^
Thank you for doing this one and for sharing your ear and knowledge with us!
[about the short breaths - that guy can belt like hell. But he's also 5'3 tall and when it comes to long notes he gets out of breath 'easily' (I mean he can hold a note for quite some time, but not as long as many other singers). I have no idea if this is true and I have never heard that again in my life, but a teacher once told a very petit girl in my class (I went to a music school for some years, but I played the Cello so I had nothing to do with singing at this point) she needed more breath to better project then people who are taller then her? Something to do with lung capacity. So she learned to take deep and short breaths even in between lines and she actually sounded a lot more comfortable. Maybe it's the same here...but if we were talking lung capacity that also alters with age, right? This video is from 2010. Kyo is 47 now. It would certainly be interesting to hear you react to something newer and hear your opinion on that!]

The 2022.05.22 show they showed on WOWOW he sounded phenomenal. So many great recent releases not on youtube but I'm not tech savvy enough to go about uploading them myself. The longest note I can remember him holding is around 14 seconds from 2015 at the end of The Final (Arche Budokan).

    • @passio-735
      @passio-735 Рік тому +1

@@acherontiaatropos6048 I honestly think he sounds awesome no matter when ^^ He definitely became more and more versatile with his voice through the years...I mean he never stopped teaching himself new techniques. He seems a bit more focussed on exploring his 'normal' singing voice these past years, though, if we listen to Phalaris, Fetish and EROSIO but those things he does in Otogi and Mouai ni shosu for example? I can't wait to hear that live! :D.I am just generally curious about the breathing thing and if that has changed. I really can't tell so it would be cool to hear him talk about that some more :). And yes, the end note of The Final is always the longest note in every concert they play it.

@@passio-735 Also I never payed attention to how long he holds the note and just remembered that one seeming particularly long but I just checked Final Days of Studio Coast The Final performance from 2022 and he holds that one for 20 seconds! So now I want to go back and check them all to find the longest one.

I saw the setlist from the stream. But I'm not a paying member at the moment, and I ordered Phalaris Vo.II [the aknot release] so I really want to wait for that one to arrive to watch and hear it for the first time ^^ I have to give myself _something_ to look forward to to make it through these days XD - I'm super excited though. Does it live up to expectations?

If you hear this guy live, like being in the room with him, his projection is ridiculous, literally shocking projection, I'm guessing the deep breaths are reflected in that.

Should definitely react to Macabre (kinda missed this one for halloween hahaha) which is a longer piece (16min) or Maga Yasuo (4min), where he explores more of his higher range. Kyo is such a beast. Not only have amazing technique, he's also SO visceral with his performance (which is why i recommend Macabre). Their live performances are always good.

Back in '05 I went to see them live at a festival in my country. A freak summer thunderstorm made that the band that should have played before Dir en grey, got cancelled. Thus on the festival ground many disgruntled metalheads that couldn't see their favorite band play live.
It was still raining when stage got set up for Dir en grey. Grumpy metalheads treading through the mudd sarcasticly grunting "yeah, sure. Them short Japanese dudes will make my night." The most metalheads present were angry.
Then Dir en grey started to play. In the rain in front of the stage you had a few rows of (mostly foreign) Diru-fangirls (and boys). There were a few other curious ppl in front of the stage. But that was it. Most of the festival crowd was hiding in the big tents.
It took but a few minutes for people starting to come out of the tents to see what that band was that was playing. In no time there was a crowd rocking to their amazement of that band that was playing. A mosh pit started and all those unhappy metalheads were rocking and moshing.
By end of the one hour gig, the rain ended too. The reactions I heard on the festival ground were completely different from before diru had come on stage.
"dude, did you see that band? That's crazy! Who are they? I wanna know about them."
Meanwhile, Dir en grey is one of those bands that became better over time. But even their old stuff still rocks and still amazes people just like it did decades ago. Dir en grey never fails to deliver.

First of all, i appreciate you for reacting to dir en grey :D secondly, i agree with others in asking for more reacts of them! I completely understand as to why they'd be categorized with a halloween week, but i'd really really love to see them reacted to during any and every season :o Sometimes it gets difficult to find reactors watching them for their talent versus reacting to the "shock value", i almost thought that's what you were doing til i noticed it was the obscure live, and not the music video!
anyway, loved the reaction. Kyo really is something else with his voice, i loved your commentary on it c:

AH I love that Diru is coming back to reaction channels! Please do more. There is so much artistry that is Kyo (the singer) for you to explore. No live performance will be the same. We always laughed how you will get a studio release and then never hear that song performed again the same way. It is always a new experience and I LOVE IT.

I do know that many metal vocalists incorporate a full range of vocal sounds to evoke the raw emotion. Many of them like to make breaths audible, Kyo of Dir En Grey included, to convey that. The more you listen to them, the more you'll see that he uses every vocal sound he's capable of.

And Obscure is already one of my favorite songs as it is.
Can't really talk about the view of a vocal coach, so I am just naming the songs I like:
Lotus, Ranunculus, Aint afraid to die, Namamekashiki ansoku tamerei no hohoemi, Saku,Kodou, Vishnuka (ofc), The pledge, Glass skin, dozing green, Drain away... and almost every other song

My gosh thank you! Please do more of Dir en Grey! They deserve much more attention and I would love to hear a real professional talking about Kyo's technique
As people mentioned, Vinushka of course is the hit. Absolutely support other fans here
From myself I's add two things:
    1. Live live live versions! MVs are great but with Kyo I feel like the theatrics, his passion and incredible stage presence add much more to the experience
    2. I would also highly recommend checking out his two other bands (this man is a workaholic loool). Sukekiyo - Elisabeth addict and Petit brabancon - Kawaki (渇き). These three bands are absolutely different so I hope that you will enjoy the musical versatility as well :)

It amazes me that their singer, Kyo, can do stuff this heavy (and heavier), but his other band, sukekiyo (one of them) is a mix of pop/folk/techno and hie voice is just as unbelievable as it is here. He seems to be a rare one that has actually expanded his range and control with age
A common intro to Sukekiyo is Elisabeth Addict, but i do hoghly recommend you check out dir en grey's live performance of Vinushka

Oh god, Dir en grey, what a blast from the past! I saw them live in LA back in 2009, right after their Uroburos album dropped - We got meet & greet tickets, so my buddies and I could bow down to them all as they deserve in person - so I second/third/fourth the live Vinushka reaction! Another would also be The Final, of course, or Kasumi or Akuro no Oka. Anything off the Withering to Death album is so solid, too. I keep editing this to add tracks, so many gems in the discography. That's what you get for having a three decade career!
