Hell of a song isn't it? It still blows me away just how well Kyo's voice was doing despite how tired it already was by that point (I always flinch at that one painful crack in it). Amazes me that there are better versions of it. They build everything so Well in this song - I've heard it a hundred times and always feels new. Ty for reacting to it! Hope to see more of the band on the channel!
Some info about the band: they've been going since 1997 with the same line up and have 10 full length albums (releasing an 11th in about 2 weeks) and they don't stick to any genre so there's a lot of surprises (watch "Yokan" next if you want to see something completely different from this one). They seem to make an effort to always do something different. Diabolos is their most similar song to Vinushka if you want to see more prog-death metal style from them, though. Something more prog with a little less death metal is Macabre (which the 2013 version of is over 16 minutes long and the version I recommend). Also the singer (Kyo) has 2 other bands called Sukekiyo and Petit Brabancon. Sukekiyo has 3 albums and Petit Brabancon hasn't released any full lengths yet (just 4 songs) but I think it's likely both bands will be releasing new albums soon. Those bands are always doing different things as well. Also Kyo can do more with his voice than even this song shows. Dir en grey request: Keigaku no Yoku live, Amon symphonic version live from Budokan 2014 Sukekiyo request: Madara Ningen live(typing this will get it: sukekiyo - 斑人間 + 烏有の空 [eng sub]), Hidauta. Petit Brabancon request: Obey
@@GlassMoonGaming Cool! I will. I'm glad you liked this song also, it's always really cool to see people get into this band they've been one of my favorites since I was a child and my unwavering favorite since the album Dum Spiro Spero in 2011.
I am so late 😭 I loved this reaction - wish I had seen it earlier but I had one hell of a busy week ^^' Thank you so much for doing this reaction - even though they never won the poll! There is already a lot of information concerning the band in the comments. About the octobans [pearl rocket toms]: Shinya [the drummer] is a very unique drummer especially within the metal genre. He has Incredibly fast hands and is insanely creative when it comes to the positioning of the drums within the overall composition. Two songs I would like to recommend mainly to make my point are Macabre [live from Tabula Rasa 2013] and Rinkaku. Macabre can be seen as a progressive masterpiece, but when they released it for the first time in 2000 [the 2013 version is an extended remake which runs for over 16 minutes] they still only ran under the umbrella terms Visual Kei and J-Rock. Rinkaku is from their 9th album ARCHE which released in 2014. ua-cam.com/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/v-deo.html [macabre] ua-cam.com/video/dkc6pCCDnes/v-deo.html [Rinkaku] Since a lot of people in the comment section wrote this - Dir en grey perform each of their songs slightly different every time they play them - mostly because their music is driven by emotions and they change with every recitation but they also never stagnate; when they include older songs into their set lists and they feel like something needs to sound different - to match the the 'tone' of the overall live or to fit the emotion the song conveys to them at that time, they do so. Because of that every live and every recording is different and it happens that some live versions just surpass everything they've done with a song before or after. I think it is very much understandable that most people request the live from ANDROGYNOUS -A view of the Acro- when it comes to Vinushka. The song had already been 9 years old when they decided to play it at this concert which was a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between two VK bands that could have been considered rivals during the late 1990s/early 2000s: Pierrot and Dir en grey. While Dir en grey ventured into foreign territory in 2005 [first playing single lives in Taiwan and Germany than booking tours in Europe, the US and South America] Pierrot stayed in Japan and disbanded in 2006. - They resumed activities for this two day event with Dir en grey only, and when you watch both concerts you quickly realise that a LOT of the people in the audience did not come for Dir en grey, some may have never actively listened to them. The entire concert is packed with fan favorites and unique versions of songs - a strategy that is just as much about pleasing their 'old' fans than it is about drawing in new listeners -, the setting is EPIC [Dir en grey rarely play large venues. If they do it's usually the Budokan] and the emotion that passes from the band to the audience and vise versa is absolutely breath-taking. I think the very fact that they played this song in front of an audience in which some people listened to it for the very first time yet UNDERSTOOD every word with every corner of their souls, makes this version so phenomenal that it is impossible to compare it to any other. This song can also 'suffer' from being performed in different sections [which I feel is the case here] but during Androgynous they somehow managed to make every change feel so natural - like a tide wave, or unnatural - like an atomic bomb, like something that happens and runs its course in a simple matter of cause and effect. I really highly recommend watching it if you haven't yet :) [btw: if you do so, just for fun, notice how the two versions - this one which you've reacted to and the one from ANDROGYNOUS - are mixed completely different. I always liked how clear you can hear Kaoru's guitar here [lead guitar] while Die's almost becomes background noise in some sections - it adds to the tension of the song. Since ANDROGYNOUS was recorded in a much larger venue it has more of an 'enclosing' sound, like a blanked under which each insrument is equally placed.] I kept mumbling on in the midsection there and completely lost the plot 😂 So in case you even made it so far, you can ignore the following or keep reading if you are interested in a bit of back-story which ends in my suggestion to check out Kyo's second band sukekiyo and their song Elizabeth Addict: ua-cam.com/video/sBFIUuzGXvc/v-deo.html I am already sorry for how long that 'shortened' part is ^^''. It's like I'm torturing you for doing a reaction. Sorry 🤍 [this followed after "Pierror. . . disbanded in 2006"] For Dir en grey, this was just the beginning. It seems that they SEEKED uncomfortable situations. They played foreign Festivals although Dir en grey really wasn't a festival band [oh the sound issues...], they were basically booed at during almost every show when they toured with Family Values in the US, they were touring by bus though the entirety of Europe and America and writing new albums in between. For about 6 years they didn't take a pause and it ended when Kyo was literally standing voiceless on stage, the drummer was playing with broken ribs and Die [rythm guitar] had been playing on painkillers and flu medications for months [it probably would have taken only a week of rest but there was no free week]. They were playing in America when the band noticed they wouldn't be able to finish the running Tour. Their manager flew in and brought them home. Kyo was hospitalised with Vocal Nodule Dysphonia and the band announced pausing their activities. 8 months later they were back on the road and stronger than ever. Fans who feared that Kyo had lost his singing voice were surprised, not only by hearing him live again - and noticing that he had never sounded cleaner and healthier before - but also by his announcement of a second band: sukekiyo. Sukekiyo are not Dir en grey 2.0. As much as people think Kyo's voice would make everything sound the same with sukekiyo and recently with Petit Brabancan he keeps venturing into new vocal techniques, styles, emotions, musical and artistic genres. Sukekiyo are more experimental rock than metal but they do have some incredibly heavy songs. During their first two records IMMORTALIS and VITIUM [which I would consider an EP] they were very much jazz influenced with lots of Spanish guitars and aetherial sounds + angelic vocals mixed with dark, more subjective/narrative like lyrics. On Adoratio they started to experiment with electronic sounds mixed in progressive rock. In Infinitum the electronic elements finally prevail - this album was pretty much written on stage. Their latest single Candis is an almost straight forward throwback to Showa era pop. They might not have as much fans as Dir en grey [and I somehow doubt that they would win any poll...] but I would LOVE to see you react to them. Because it is their most popular song I would suggest Elizabeth Addict which comes off their first LP.
