Teddy Roderman on trombone, at that time, one of North America's finest trombonists. The busiest trombonist in Toronto for many years, aToronto Symphony, principle trombone, CBC Symphony, the same, first call for Toronto's thriving studio scene at that time- 50's through 70's.

Ed Bickert one of the smoothest , most melodic guitar players anywhere .

It's shocking to see such a young Ed Bickert, but even more so to see the Tele looking so new!! Thanks for sharing this, as it's an important part of history for all of us that love Ed Bickert's music.

My thought exactly. He was tasteful then, as always. Also the tele twang was there. I think here, he is using the muddle position in the pu as well.

Guido Basso!!! Just heard him play live last night at the Sudbury Jazz Festival!!! Fell in love with his playing over 30 years ago watching "Night Moves", "Night Walk", and "Night Ride" on Global TV. He turns 78 years old on the 27th of this month (Sept)! He is even better now!!!

egyptopentakenic - haha I love that term (even though you took some liberties with it's creation!). Gotta start using that one.

never seen ed looking so young, but yes, very pedestrian arrangement. Who's on drums?

Good Q?? And his sound? Heavier strings? Fortunate to play with Ed. A gentleman of the first order.

You think playing egyptopentakenic death scales all day pays the bills? Phil Woods probably made more money playing on a Billy Joel track than anything else. I'm sure Guido and the band brought home a fat, well-deserved paycheck for this thing. Nice playing all around!

That's a strange tone coming from Ed, but it still works for what's going on. And THAT is Ed Bickert!

'nice playing all around!' -definitely. and I'm sure the paycheck, fat or not, was well-deserved by Guido and band.I have nothing against popular arrangements -nor do I expect CDN jazz players to starve themselves playing...'egyptopentakenic death scales'. I just think it's a shame that comparatively little of their 'jazz' output was recorded (apart from whatever might be buried in CBC archives) , whether mainstream or avant-garde.

it drives me nuts how often canadian jazz players were driven to play pop & easy arrangements...at least as suggested by film and audio recordings.
