Loved your reaction. The song was cut a bit due to time constraints on Ed Sullivan. Yes it was used on Fresh Prince, and Tom did a guest spot on it as a guardian angel of Carlton.
Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "Green Green Grass Of Home", "Delilah", "What's New Pussycat?", "She's A Lady" etc. He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.

I saw him in concert this past September on his US concert tour. He is still a phenomenal singer and performer! So glad to finally see him live.

Tom Jones can sing anything he damn well pleases but I recently learned that he has a deep blues catalog and lots of Blues artists consider him to be the best blues singer of all time. His depth is astonishing.

Yes, Ed Sullivan had all the big stars. I sat on the floor watching our black & white TV when the Beatles made their American debut in 1964. I was 11 & in love with Paul McCartney. LOL Many shows are taped in the Ed Sullivan Theater still today. including the Steven Colbert show. Tom is a classic & also still performing.
I saw Sir Tom many times at Mohegan Sun in CT. The last time the whole audience appeared to be over 80. We were stage right to Mr. Jones and up near the top also near an entrance so we had room. There were five of us dancing our hearts out. He turned and did the rest of his show towards us. I believe one show someone walked up to the stage with their scrapbook. Um, he’s in the middle of a show.

Yes...Sir Tom Jones! Find The Jackson Five's first appearance on the Sullivan show; making it on Sullivan, the Tonight Show, & the Mike Douglas show was the goal for musical acts & comedians way back in the day. Tom Jones is still 🔥 because this man CAN SING!

I love watching Tom Jones performances. He was everything. You may have heard Wyclef Jean's "Pussycat" which samples Tom's "What's New Pussycat?" I believe he makes a cameo in the music video as well. Something about that Welsh air/water...one of my favourite singers ever, Dame Shirley Bassey, is also from Wales. I'd love to see you react to one of her songs/performances: "Goldfinger, Live at Royal Albert Hall, 1974," "Diamonds Are Forever," etc etc. Great reaction!!! (especially enjoyed the Carlton lol)

When I met my husband in 1996 he was 21 years old with piercings and tattoos. He was the last person you would think that even knew who Tom Jones was let alone loved him but this was his favorite song and knew every word by heart. Tom Jones was THE MAN in the 60s and 70s. Women threw their panties on the stage! He kissed women in the audience and they went crazy. The Ed Sullivan show was the top variety show having an incredible list of acts, all the top ones like The Beatles first U.S. TV appearance (I believe), The Doors, and Elvis. In fact Ed defended Elvis when he was being attacked for his gyrations. He had acrobats, plate spinners and other interesting acts.

Another great old TV show was Dick Cavett. He had performances of great musicians, and also fascinating interviews that really explored the depths of personalities. There's a series of Eartha Kitt's appearances on his show that really gave me the feels. I've loved her since I was a wee child and she was the original Catwoman on the Batman TV series. What a fascinating, beautiful, talented person she was!

The story goes that the only Comedians that were allowed to have more than the few minutes allotted were the Canadian duo "Wayne and Shuster".
