- AGM batteries are more expensive than traditional flooded wet-cell batteries, but they offer a number of advantages. And with the emergence of regenerative braking, alternator decoupling and stop-start, AGM batteries have become a minimum replacement requirement for many newer vehicles.

Lol
Ladies like him I guess because having stiff that thing too 😂😂
Great video and explanation. I am going to buy a AGM battery if my 2001 BMW 530i battery ever fails. I am using a PulseTech PowerPulse passive battery desulfator on it to keep it working longer, Pulse Tech states that there patented frequency used to desulfate a battery can extend battery life by up to three times.
And they taste much better than the lead acid batteries
Made my day
Wut!? XD
Fuck yeah dude battery acid eats welcome to the club
AGM are technically still lead acid, just not open flooded like the old school style.
made my day🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My favorite feature of AGM batteries is that there is no white gunk corrosion forming on the terminals
Too lazy to do a little cleaning? I assume you shower daily so how hard would it be to check for corrosion maybe once a week on a battery?
@@davidjames1684 *Relax David.*
@@davidjames1684what an idiot comment
All you need to do is use baking soda and water to clean the terminals and then coat the connectors with Vaseline petroleum jelly or silicon dielectric grease, they also make red and green felt pads that are coated with a solution to also prevent corrosion that you install under your battery connectors.
Who cares?
Thank you sir
My old battery was leaking acid. I spent a lil more to get the AGM battery this time
Informative 👍👍
Have an AGM in my car, dealership told me it was completely dead after 3 years, that I needed a new one. Nope, nothing wrong with it. They should last 6-10 years
one disadvantage is you cant desulfate AGM like flooded. flooded can last a long time with desulfation every 2 years. you can even revive a dead one.
Did the dealership ever show you the receipt of your actual battery test and the score it gives Do only reason why I say that because when I do battery test on cars at Honda I always make sure I staple the receipt that I got from the test through the paperwork for the customer
Mine Nissan Rouge 2021 use AGM about year battery went dead 💀 I bought another battery to replace
EVERSTART AGM $160.00
2021 Nissan Rouge does not equipped with engine start and stop possibly using lead acid
@@mikestudmuffin My car computer system started giving me errors for working in low battery and other modules started giving errors like the P break and so on. I measured 12.6 V. I am geting the battery checked tomorrow at the dealership. The battery is 11 years old.
@@dinobot_maximize Pulsetech chargers and PowerPulse passive desulfators can be used on AGM batteries to desulfate them.
helpful!
Yeah !!! I Use All AGM Batteries 🔋 in my Portable StarGate 😉
Is that where you choke your chicken to pics of Princess Leia?🙄
My 2010 Ford F-150 came with a Motorcraft AGM that lasted 11.5 years. Show me any standard lead acid battery that has that kind of longevity.
My oem lead acid Toyota Tacoma battery lasted from 2018-2024 and just went out this month. Not bad for lead acid
I thought you never need to replenish fluid in AGM batteries but I watched some youtubers revived dead AGM batteries by topping off dry cells with distill water. So what is the truth? My 6 year old AGM battery has lost 50% of its capacity cus it was ran flat last year but after the jump start, the battery can still start the engine but the stop/start wouldn't work due to it's low charge.
Is a Agm battery good for high powered amp
Yes make sure you have a enough amp hours
One point is the working temperature of AGM is 25 Celsius, another is the discharging efficiency is set up when it is made, don't follow the rules,AGM dying quickly.
@@judithjinn6765 wait what?
@@TeddyxxMexx oi,I was referring AGM battery for off grid solar system, for what i knew as least. Please don't hesitate to let me know if i m wrong.
is AGM the same as "deep cycle" batteries????
It's too bad that 😕, none of the car companies provide the proper charging profile for an AGM battery. This does affect both the performance and longevity of your "now" more expensive AGM car battery. 😢
Is a agm battery better than a die hard battery as far running a sound system with 4000watt subwoofers
YES by far because an AGM battery can easily handle the hard drain from Bass notes
If AGM is the minimum type battery for stop start, regenerative braking systems why did my my car manufacturer fit and specify an EFB battery for my car?
HEV/PHEV/EV vehicle require at least AGM for their 12 volts battery if not Lithium. Lead acid can cause DTC or worse cause malfunction.
Do AGM batteries have slightly higher voltage than similar batteries of same voltage ranges?
That would be my question too,or to put it differently, when an AGM battery is put into a car that didn't come with one will the charging voltage/rate be less than enough to keep the battery at an acceptable level of charge, especially if the car is mostly used in short trip service?
Yes an AGM battery needs higher voltage to fully charge and most cars cannot supply the needed current so you would need otcget a supplemental charger
@davidpowell3347 ok so I have a 2014 accord,a 2008 Tundra and 2 other cars with AGM batteries. The Toyota would kill an AGM yearly because the charging voltage would be 13.2 max. An AGM battery needs minimum 14.4 so you need to supplement charging with a Noco genius 10 for example.
OH! Wow. Your reply is very insightful. I think using your thoughts I might be able to get this to work. You know others promoting AGM batteries don't mention that they need higher voltage. You have helped me a lot. Thank you very much! @@LuisC202
@@LuisC202 I called Northstar before installing one on a vehicle which supplied 14.1V and they said it was fine. Several years later it's still working.
Can you answer why a special charger is needed to charge AGM batteries even though they are charged in car by the same source that charges all types of batteries without issue? So why is a special charger needed?
Because an AGM battery cannot handle the absorption stage of charging being over 15 volts. Flooded lead acids (like the ones made by Johnson Controls) can tolerate some overcharging, because the tops can be popped off, and new distilled water poured in, to replace whatever "gases off". With an AGM, they're sealed from the factory and not designed to take more water. If you go over 15 volts, you can cause pressure within the battery to build up, and then the AGM battery has to release its "emergency valves" that keep the AGM from exploding. However, once that gassing off takes place, there's no way to put new distilled water in (or new sulfuric acid), and the battery loses capacity.
C-TEK, Odyssey, and NOCO all make AGM-friendly battery chargers. You pay more, but you'll preserve the battery for much, much longer.
@@ganzonomy So basically any charger than does not charge at over 15 volts is fine?
good question, my dodge came with a regular 525 cca battery, I'm currently using an expensive bosch agm battery, and the alternator charges it just the same. I imagine that you don't actually need a battery charger that specifies agm, the ones that do probably just have additional software to charge the agm batteries in a slightly different way.
@@electric8668 and can charge in the fashion an AGM battery likes to be charged. An old school charger that worked in the 70s won't work. It has to be programmed to accept the AGM charging sequence with absorption and floating.
@@stephenmartinez1 if a traditional charger goes over 15v in absorption, you'll cook the battery from the inside out.
AGM batteries are not suitable replacements for vehicles that originally came with flooded lead acid batteries. Your vehicle's alternator will undervolt your new AGM battery thinking it still has the FLA battery. AGM batteries require at least 14.2 to 14.8 volts.
False. You can install an AGM battery into a flooded battery application. An AGM battery will give the vehicle more cold cranking power and greater resistance to heat and vibration.
@@jimmyboyles2868problem is, it's hard to find a AGM battery that will fit into the flooded battery compartment
@@jimmyboyles2868lol you are wrong. An AGM battery needs 14.4-14.8 like the poster wrote before your coment. I own 4 cars woth AGM's and depending in make you have to supplant charging them periodically to e sure they stay charged.
I believe the AGM battery will only slowly drift lower in charge over months of use in the standard voltage regulated car in most driving regimes and will function fairly well if given a very slow (additional) charge every few months with a charger that takes it up to 14.7 or 14.8 volts at very low current (must not exceed that however and older chargers, even very small "tapering charge" models may exceed 15 volts if left unsupervised)
I suspect that the Odyssey Extreme battery may behave somewhat differently than other AGM batteries
if your car regulates at,say,14.2 volts the AGM battery probably will stay at satisfactory charge level longer than if it regulates at only 13.5 volts @@LuisC202
I'm offgrid totally with 500watts of solar the dealer I dealer 2 discovery atm batteries reconditioned for 75 each I was going to buy 2 trogan t105 for $320 do you think it would be wise to get the trogan new or the reconditioned agm I need some advice?
Not enough information given. I wouldn't use flooded batteries inside. Discounted AGMs would be a good choice. I wouldn't use reconditioned AGMs.
You should never need to charge your agm battery if your car works ok. Installed mine ..read the voltage at the terminals with the car running...14 volts..done end of story.
looking for 14.6?
Jason. Thanks! Short and to the point. I learned something. I know this is focused on vehicles with AGM, I am using mine to supply power to an inverter at night to run my home lights and entertainment. In the Solar (charging) world, it is difficult to find science. Most just repeat what they heard. Do you know what is a really good charger (battery charger) that has the correct charging profiles specific to AGM? I mean like if a vehicle owner flattened their AGM by leaving the headlights on all night and wanted to charge it on the bench before returning it to the vehicle. I am looking for that battery charger. Any recommendations or things to look for/look out for?
Look closely, there are battery chargers for both AGM and lead acid. Make sure to have the switch set correctly.
I disabled the Auto Stop Nonsense, does that allow me get by using a Wet Cell Battery. As for all that Infotainment crap, it never gets used.
AGM batteries taste much better than lead acid.
Why are car batteries different sizes? Why not just make one size? If you take say a Chevy Spark vs. a Chevy Malibu why not just put the same size battery in each car?
Because every car needs certain cold cranking amps and a car in certain spots just doesn’t have the space as say a normal ram 1500 battery Vs a Chrysler 200 battery
AGM batteries rock, lead acid batteries suck the big one!
AGM is a lead acid battery.
@@davidjames1684 got em
@@panama2468 Yeah he should have said flooded lead acid batteries but they are still quite popular cuz of low cost and "forgiveness" of overvoltage charging (such as if a voltage regulator goes bad on an alternator and it puts out say 15.0V).
AGM costs more, that means AGM has a longer life span than lead acid?
Yup
@@Davo32310 Any problem to replace a lead acid with an AGM? Will the longer life offset the higher cost?
@@cousinjohncarstuff4568 No problem at all, the cost wi be justified...I have a flatbed truck with a AGM that sits a home for months, when I come back it will start right away.

The disadvantage of an AGM is they cannot be maintained. If they get overcharged, they gas and they cannot be topped up.
Does any AGM battery will work well with any car & cars with a aftermarket stereo system? Does the factory altanator with play a big factor with battery in terms of charging it properly?
Hey so is it OK to replace a regular battery with an agm and run it as primary battery? Would it be safe to keep hooked to a car ?
@@mikeyvital7984 Yes
The alternator 100% palys a role with an aftermarket stereo system. You would want an upgraded alternator.
@@mikeyvital7984depends on make of car some cars will kill an AGM within a year be aise the alternator cannot properly charge it.
Don’t forget to incorporate large capacitors.
