    Hope you're all having an amazing day, everyone!
    First let me talk about the Elephant in the Room "Mekanism" and the missing QIO.
    I am very sorry that I missed it, personally I only use Mekanism for Energy and Resource Production/Automation so even Black Hole Units were kinda a new thing for me.
    So thats why you have here a quick summary on my opinion on "QIO":
    PRO:
    - Massive Space (16 Bil. Items x 8182 Types in the biggest Drive)
    - Straightforward Setup
    - Nice UI
    CON:
    - High-Cost / both RS and AE2 are cheaper than QIO
    - Multi Step Crafting Recipes > both for the QIO and the Drives (Fision Reactor, Polonium, Antimatter, etc.)
    Overall, I would rate QIO as somewhere between low A-tier and high B-tier if it were a standalone mod.
    However, when combined with Black Hole Units, which I find to have no use since we have functional/sophisticated storages, the overall rating for Mekanism averages out to low B-tier.
    Additionally, I overlooked Botania's storage option, "Corporea Networks," and the quick assessment is that it's F-tier.
    It's very convoluted and unintuitive to use, and it's not easily accessible either.
    If I should have missed any other Storage Mods please let me know and I will share my opinion on them.
    Please keep in mind that this video is only about ATM9 Storage Mods since I saw people asking for a Mods which are not in the Modpack.
    Thank you for watching the video and I hope you will be back for the next video in the series!

      The one cool thing about the corporea network is the corporea spark that lets you use chat to request items when nearby, this can in theory be paired with your existing ae2 network... in practice tho it's finicky, and has a limited range, but sometimes it's easier to use chat then to navigate a GUI.
      Personally I use CC:T+ modular routers or pnc to do the same thing, and it request autocrafts and works at infinite range, and is honestly cheaper and easier to setup (once the code is already written)

      Few notes:
      Mekanisum -
      electric chest/barrel (basicly double chest backpack)
      logistics transportor (sorting & accessing)
      robit (electric single chest and other features)
      Tanks
      Ars novu-
      Storage lecture after linking you can unsummon or kill the book worms removing the lag and chest noise has multiple other feature that allow creative block interactions
      Receptical (double chest in a single block)
      Create- item vault (clunky but cheap works great with inv accessing mods)
      PNE- logistic drones and pipes
      Reinfost chest ( shulker box basicly)
      Smart chest (2xshulker box with features)
      Drone ( ngl probably to complicated but has an inv and can do what ever your willing to program it to do)
      Tank (liquid storage with some features)
      Aerial accessor (interacts with you players inv)
      Ocultisum-
      Storage bag that I forgot the name of ( just a big bag)
      Probably some more but I haven't played in a while over all a desent teir list but just remember don't under estimate any thing on 1st glance there are some truly amazing things that can slide right under the radar that could completely change how you look at things and play the game XD

      Exactly. I think it should be a B tier mod. It doesn’t do a lot, and it’s more of a supplement to other logistics mods, but what it does do it does fantastically, easily, intuitively, and cheaply. Instant, never ending, cross dimensional transport of lava and water is what I use it for the most, but it also transports items just as easily.😁

    you missed some key points about the traveller's backpack: it can be worn at the same time as the sophisticated backpack since it has its own dedicated player slot, it can also be placed in world and comes with a deployable sleeping bag, it can be upgraded to include a crafting table, and it comes with tool swapper slots

    • @oskifv

      @@oskifv yes, but you now need 3 items to do what 1 can. in addition 1 of those items has its use case discarded late game, 1 of them requires an anvil and levels and the last while useful still requires an inventory slot as opposed to just existing. the backpack is helpful early and mid game for storage, "weaker" abilities and utility, and the dragon backpack's strength and regen is welcome at any stage of the game. and you can get it for free by doing things you should be doing anyway early on.

    • @erin.anderson
      @erin.anderson 6 місяців тому +11

      The sleeping bag and the unique backpack bonuses (the fire resist, no fall damage, etc.) are the only unique things that it adds, but it having its own hidden wearable slot is a mixed blessing. You now have to have a second hotkey for opening it, and you have to remember that you're wearing it, because it does not show up in your inventory, curios, or anywhere else on your character screen. I totally agree with almost every ranking in this video but i feel like you massively underrated how powerfull sophisticated storage actually is, you can upgrade a double chest to netherite tier then add the stackupgrades like in the backpacks. If you than add a controller you can stack a bunch of these which you can than connect to a storage bus saving you the hassle off dealing with storage cells all together. Also this seems to be a lot less laggy as it spreads outs the items over multiple blocks

    Personally I find AE2's autocrafting way more versatile and flexible than anything refined storage can offer, making it better than refined storage at least in end-game as setting up auto-crafting for many different mods crafting stations is much easier. Also AE2 things adds a disk in that doesnt restrict item types, though once you are late-mid game you should be able to churn enough disks out for it not to matter.

    Sophisticated Backpacks has also become one of my true must-have mods these days. The portable carrying capacity really does get truly insane when you start getting to the "inception" upgrade, which lets you load a bunch of other bags into your main bag, and you can set it so that things the bags pick up will automatically go to the nested bags. Plus things like portable crafting tables, furnaces, and all of that... it is a definite must-have, with Sophisticated Storage being a handy companion that uses a lot of the same logic. I should really play around with Refined Storage, though, if I ever get to the point of making systems that need more robust, unified storage. AE2 has been one of my go-to mods for a very long time, but Sophisticated Backpacks and Storage have just... generally taken its slot for accessibility's sake, and the lack of need for power. Still, I'll ALWAYS love the modpacks that are built around an AE2 Spatial Chamber, like the Material Energy series.

    Glad to see people not completely bypassing Ars Nouveau, and it raises points I never noticed. The lag never became an issue, because I just use a single bookwyrm connected to a storage controller, or Minecolonies warehouse block. For the same reasons, the noise of opening chests is also not an issue. I just enjoy having a storage system so early in the game, since it needs no power and is crafted with a bit of gold, archwood, maybe some lapis, etc.
    But I still carry a backpack, I dunno how my remote storage could be thwarted (outside of leaving the dimension) but I don't want to find out and have no backup system.

    This is definitely a very helpful video, as I didn't know of a couple of these. The format of a tier list does make it a bit tough on mods such as enderchests and dimensional storage as they do one thing really well. A possible suggestion is that you can give a 1-5 on three different things for example: Cost, complexity and overal usefulness as an example.Maybe on the end too you can give your favorite for early, mid and end game

      Very good idea, Enderchests definitely is a Very great solution to move items large distances and cross dimensions especially for it's price, it's valua isn't in its Storage but in its strength as a way to connect various places with very little overhead and hassle,
      Especially if you combine Pouch connected to a sorting system that empties the chest you'll have no inventory issues what so ever when you go dungeon diving,
      I would recommend applying Filters for things you Might accidentally throw into your Pouch so you don't need to go home, Or get stuck in an awkward mistake,
      On it's own it's not much, still better than the Vanilla option (And older than that), but it absolutely Shines when you have another mod taking stuff out and sorting it

    Ender Chests with Logistics Pipes is S+ tier. Only downside is it takes 3 inventory slots to use (one for requester, 2 for I/O) but it's obscenely cheap, works cross dimensionally and .. drumroll.... you can integrate it with AE. You'll feel its power when you dump your entire inventory of netherrack into your deposit pouch and watch as it's instantly whisked into your item system. Not even AE can do that. LP also has a really powerful autocrafting system that's not only inexpensive but can integrate any processing with a stable input and output and can also do so recursively. I think at this point I use its autocrafting for things it wasn't designed for more than I use it for actual crafting. You're probably thinking that LP is insanely strong with that alone but it gets even better if you add computers; that's right, you can use this little mod to run ACE on the server running it and- oh, they patched that? Darn.
    Only thing that comes close I can think of is PneumaticCraft's player interface which can change your inventory directly. Only reason I put it a tier below is because it requires you go all the way through PCs irritating progression* and it's also a lot harder and more limited to use.
    (I actually lost a playtester to this, they got extremely frustrated and literally deleted the pack because of how tedious the mod was)

    Danks are great, and I think not enough people use them. Filtered pickup lets you set what you want to go into the dank, so all mass-quantity blocks like dirt/cobble etc go in. Only issue is a minor bug where even if you have a slot locked, if you take out all the items, it sometimes doesn't recognize the slot item to pick up again.
    With a dank 7 you essentially have a drawer with like 30 slots and max netherite upgrades. You can even attach an external storage to the dock and treat it like a drawer system, but in one block.

  • @Awesomon2234
    @Awesomon2234 6 місяців тому +3

    I agree with most of your rankings
    For me AE2 is better than RS but RS is a decent early-mid game storage system. once you begin getting into autocrafting and other more complex stuff AE2 is the way to go. AE2 also with one of the addon mods has drives that act like RS drives without the 63 item limit per drive. They do cost 2 netherite per drive though but by the time you get to an AE2 setup you should have enough for it.
    When it comes to Ender chests I would place them in high A tier if not S tier. While they alone don't add much storage when you have a lot of automation using other mods or a lot of farms having them all filter into an ender chest that is linked to another storage system (Normally for me it is RS or AE2 depending on my point in the game) they are an amazing asset allowing you to not have to run cables everywhere. And since they work across dimensions that saves you from having to make the expensive cross-dimension systems from AE2 and RS. (Not talking about handheld terminals). My only gripe with the mod was its low storage per chest, I didn't know you could use Epearls to increase it. (Tip for beginners to the mod, shift-clicking a diamond on the chest will link it to you which is useful on servers)
    Beyond that I think your rankings are fine. I wish Industrial Forgoing was as good as it used to be but nowadays with newer mods its storage is just lacking.
    Also fun fact. The reason a lot of mods are stuck at 2.1b storage as their max is due to the Minecraft block data limit being 2,147,483,647. over the years mods have found ways around this limit but a lot of mods still use it as a limit.

    So testing this on ATM9: To The Sky currently.
    To anyone unsure of whether to pick AE2 or RS for your primary storage mod end game... There was a few major facts about AE2 that the video didn't mention (No flak to the creator, missing some things is bound to happen):
    Fact 1: It was mentioned that AE2's cells increase their byte count, but no mention of what a byte actually is. AE2's 'Byte' doesn't equate to '1 item'.
    For example, a 1k RS cell can hold 1000 cobble or 1000 pickaxes or 1000 prefilled chests or 1000 completely random items. No matter what you put in, it can take 1000 of them. This makes them a great general dump storage system.
    AE2 is limited to 63 item types (a double chest, plus a hotbar for easy visualisation) and various 'bytes' as mentioned. However each 'byte' can support far more than 1 item. To use the same example as above:
    A 1k AE2 cell can hold 8128 cobble or 8128 pickaxes (assuming they're all the same durability/no differences in enchants etc), or 8128 prefilled chests. As long as it's the exact same item, AE2 can hold 8128 of them. That is a significant difference.
    Fact 2: AE2 disk drives have a additional 2 slots. So if you're using 1k cells, in RS you can store 8000 items in 1 disk drive and in AE2 you can store 81280 items in a single disk drive.
    Fact 3: If you feel that the channels system is too annoying to work with, if you're OP or in single player, just run /ae2 channelmode infinite and the channels won't exist anymore. Dense cables and AE2 controllers will also cease to exist, so you can expand as much as you want from a single energy accepted.
    All in all, both have their significant advantages. RS is significantly better if you just want to clear your inventory of random junk of varying durabilities etc, but AE2 is significantly better at mass storage.
    In ATM 9: To The Skies, AE2 also has 'AE2 things' which adds the 'DISK Drive' which is basically a RS disk, using the same 1k, 4k, 64k etc system, but removing types and storing up to 1k, 4k etc items. It also has far more addons, such as Applied Flux, Applied E (Project E integration) and others. I am unsure if that's the same in the base ATM 9 though.

With a single bookwyrm, you can connect to the I/O block from Sophisticated Storage, thus accessing your entire chest setup from a single block, and eliminating the noise from the chest opening, as your bookwyrm will simply not have any chest to open, he'll just interact with the I/O block. • @EgnachHelton
    @EgnachHelton 6 місяців тому +1

    A few underrated/under-appreciated aspects AE2 does better than RS:
    - Liquid Crafting, you generally don’t need machines to fill buckets/containers with AE2 for most recipes. The system handles it for you with the full speed of the AE2 auto crafting system without those slow bucket filling machines. This means you can very easily automate food from croptopia which usually requires some kind of fluid.
    - ME Interface: Even without talking about sophisticated uses like sub net this block is very powerful because it allows almost instant return of items into the network. The equivalent of which in RS is just a combination of importer and exporter into a single block, which imports from its inventory very slowly by default and isn’t as fast as AE2 interface even with max speed upgrades.

    • @Run2Seeun
      @Run2Seeun 6 місяців тому

      RS can also handle liquids in recipes. However, AE has more QoL features:
      1) Pattern providers can import and export autocrafting which is much better than using importers and exporters separately. They also have an option to lock the recipe until output is sent back to the provider which makes annoying autocrafting like Powah energizing orb automation much more easier.
      2) AE recipe patterns support smithing recipes by default. RS doesnt have this feature iirc.
      3) AE can handle reusable items in recipes. If a hammer is needed to craft a plate, it will use that hammer until its broken. Then craft additional hammers if needed. RS cannot calculate this.
      I like using both tbh. Both have their ups and downs and its enjoyable to switch between.

You can get something called a digital miner pretty early and you will never go mining again and will be rich with every type of resource. I managed to finish mekanism in a few days only playing it once before and when i played again it was a little less then a year. JEI helps a lot to but mekanism has its struggles like any mod does but it is not hard at all and if your only using it for power then you don't even know everything it can offer like 5x ores which in the end will get you that 16 billion storage in no time at all. I would say the most annoying thing is its just time consuming in some moments. Solid A tier for me on mekanism also great tier list video keep it up

    Functional drawers tied with ae2 is one helluva combo.
    I took on a huge sidequest to create a mega storage with it.
    Basically, i fully upgraded a drawer controller to have... I guess it would be something like a 128 by 128 (not sure, i remember the range extending 64 blocks on each face) ... after witch, i painstakingly linked each drawer (did not realise you can change the config tool to click and drag untill after like...300 drawers latter) and conected the storage controller to the me network.
    The bad part is that opening and closing any ae2 interface (like the wireless crafting or me pattern) would freeze my game for afew moments, but other than that, it works flawlessly. Also, linking so many drawers caused the game to freeze when linking new drawers...so that's fun.
    Sure, it might be overkill. Yes, it took way too long.
    But it sure looks amazing with shaders.
    Basicay dug up a huge hole under my base (had to use a destruction gadget), where the top is the me network stuff, and right below , i have that colosal drawer network.

    BTW, for anyone not knowing this.
    You can use Sophisticated backpacks with pickup upgrades for automation!!!!!
    Best example would be a farm via mystical agriculture that drops their seeds into the overworld. When you setup the magnet with a filter you can let it pickup only the stuff you declare and sophisticated backpacks works as an input/output inventory aswell. Since i heard about this i am not building any farms that drop items into the overworld without these backpacks. Truely a S Tier Mod

    Thanks for this! I've been limiting myself to Refined storage, Functional Storage, and Sophisticated backpacks for the most part, may give some of these a try. Didn't even know about the control block in Sophisticated Storage, seems like that would be extremely useful early game in combination with Functional Storage.

    I'm surprised Tom's Simple Storage wasn't included. It's really easy to learn, not too expensive, and using Create's Vaults you can get HUGE storage sizes with a lot of variability, while drawers - well they're still drawers.

    create's item vaults surprisingly powerful. I recall once pairing one with a tinkers construct workbench to make a rudimentary but very cheap and simple early game setup!

      I always want an exhaustive pros/cons of each mod in a pack, sorting them by utility is perfect. Maybe some categories like power, ranged weapons, melee weapons, armor, dimensions, ore processing, plants & food, magic, mining, etc. would make good options?

  • @Satch_4_Hogs
    @Satch_4_Hogs 4 місяці тому

    the correct answer is a mixture of most of these. I use functional storage to store large amounts, and also void once I reach numbers beyond usable. I'll never use 1 Billion copper ore.
    Later game, I use AE2 to connect to functional storage controllers, then my established storage is immediately integrated and usable in AE2.

    another really powerful ability of sophisticated backpacks is the experience pump upgrade, which (combined with a tank upgrade) allows you to siphon experience to and from the player, and, most importantly, can automatically repair Mending-enchanted tools and armor. It is _incredibly_ powerful and lets you turn nearly any armor into power armor, as long as you have the experience for it (and XP can get out of hand very quickly)
    plus the ability to adjust your XP level lets you get enchants very cheap

    I always love your videos, you have not even close to enough subscribers for this quality of content. You cover every option and even though I don’t really watch guides on mods I always watch your videos, because you always have some small insider/pro tip that’s helpful. Agree with the tier list as well, especially the top part, have seen way to many „ae2 vs rs“ questions and posts even though it’s just a matter of preference.

  • @YungSchmuel
    @YungSchmuel 4 місяці тому

    I really wish you would’ve highlighted one thing; the functional storage mod + ae2 or even RS is a life saver since you can use the External Storage from RS or a Storage Bus from AE2 to access your drawers from the network, effectively downsizing the amount of disks you need to make!

    TOP STORAGE MODS
    storage drawer, simple storage network, iron chest
    Personally they are for early game, coming to mid end game I like to upgrade the simple storage to the refined, but it's incredible good for early game.

    I really like to use Dank in combination with Sophisticated Backpacks when im out mining or exploring. I let the Dank pickup basic items, like cobblestone, ores etc. and the backpacks picks up gear, potions and other usables.

    I mostly agree with this tierlist, but I do believe that placing dimstorage and ender storage in C is really selling them short, the other options to achieve what they can do are wildly expensive and what they do is something I use every single time I play modded + they work really well with advanced storage mods like AE2, so I would bump them up to B or maybe on some lucky days to A tier

    btw you forgot that in atm9 there is an me storage cell that dosnt have the cap of items. There is an version, where you can store only data, without regulations of itemtypes. But i guess that was only in the 8m or 16m version. is quite a bit sice i played it. But nice work so far :D

    I really appreciate this video. Not does it help with ATM9, but other modpacks too. Didn’t realize the magic mods had storage options. I hope you talk about server side lag from certain mods. I been told that RS impacts servers more so than AE2. Create mod blocks are considered entities too so it can cause a lot of lag when used a lot.

    • @EpicEnchants
      @EpicEnchants  6 місяців тому

      Yes I was super surprised as well when I learned that Ars and Occultism both had storage options and Occultisms is actually pretty good :D
      I will try my best to talk about lag but I am normally a solo player and dont have large amounts of server knowledge so the best I can provide is my insights from that and using the spark tool to share some points.

    Fun and very useful trick with danks early game: set up a dock with a linked dank and hopper out the contents into storage like double chests. This allows you to very early game have a dank in your inventory you dump things into and they empty into your base allowing you to go on a mining trip even without a backpack.

  • @Jared1221_

    I think that when ranking mods for ATM9 specifically which has Apotheosis its important to note that Refined Storage's lack of limit on types CAN cause problems by corrupting chunks when storing a lot of NBT items. For a long pack like ATM9 with many mods that have NBT items this is a consideration when picking ae2 vs refined, although a majority of players will not encounter this issue unless they just raid dungeons all day, or have a gem mob farm and dump it into their system.

      Both mods are essentially fighting for personal preference,
      I love AE2 but I tend to go for RS instead just because I can get it up quicker and with less work,
      But AE2 is a lot stronger when you need the specifics and special things
