      I can say as someone who didn't even kiss someone till I was 20, it was well worth the wait. I hear so many people saying how much they regret who they did "first things" with because they felt pressured and it makes me feel happy knowing that I wasn't pushed into anything I didn't feel personally ready for.

      ***** Agreed!! I've had supportive Christian parents growing up and although they taught me about boys and what to do and what not to do.. I sometimes decided to go my own way and mess up multiple times but God led me where I am today with an amazing Godly man! God works our crazy paths into something so beautiful!

    I have been with my boyfriend for 8 years now, and I completely agree with Nikki's idea that sharing religious beliefs takes a lot of pressure off of a relationship. Both my boyfriend and I are atheists, and it makes life much simpler =)

      My parents are Christian and Mormon, and they have been happily married for 29 years =) They just limit their religious discussions, and neither of them like going to church, which helps.

    • @Billythachikk
      @Billythachikk 9 років тому +1

      kaseymmb Also, some of the core values are the same, still, right? Like taking care of others and stuff like that? I mean, if my boyfriend was Christian, I would still share a lot of core values with him. All of the things Jesus presumably preached are universal good traits, like not getting angry with others, and treating them fairly, etc.
      So as Christina Ann said, if you just limit your discussions to that stuff - what you agree on - it's totally fine! My boyfriend sort of believes in ghosts, because he's actually experienced some really weird stuff over the years. And since I didn't, it's hard for me to take it seriously. But I sort of just go and say "you know what? I don't know if it's true or not, since there's no evidence for either. So I'll just wait for the ghosts to make an appearance."

    I hope you address friendships this week. I'm dealing with a lot of difficulties with my best friend because she has been in an emotionally abusive relationship for a year and a half and it literally drives me insane to see her putting herself through that. I hope you talk about ways to deal with the issues associated with being a good friend but not taking that role too far. She's been stressing me out so much, and I just want to find a way where I can still be her friend, but not let her life affect me so much at the same time. Idk what to do, it's a difficult situation. If anyone has some advice I'd really appreciate it!

    • @tristanoelle
      @tristanoelle 9 років тому +2

      I'm assuming you've addressed your concern. If you haven't, I would do that first. Just let her know that you're worried about her and that you care about her. I don't think that's taking things too far at all really. In the end though, whether she wants to admit it or not, she'll realize that her relationship is bad for her. Honestly, there's probably a good chance that she already knows she's in a destructive relationship, but is just having trouble getting out. I think the best thing you can do is still be there for her throughout this mistake she's making. It sounds like this relationship isn't going to last much longer, and she'll really need a good friend to lean on after the fact. I know you're frustrated with her, but I hope you can stay calm and patient with your friend. There's probably a lot of underlying issues on why she's staying with this guy, and she probably really needs a friend to help her through all of those issues.
      I've been in your friend's position before, and one of my good friends was very frustrated with me for not getting out of my emotionally abusive relationship soon enough. But thank the lord she was still there for me throughout the relationship, and continued to be there for me when I got out of it. I'm very thankful for that.
      I hope I helped a little, and I wish you the best of luck.

    • @letsmakeout1990
      @letsmakeout1990 9 років тому +1

      I agree with Trista. You need to talk to her about it. Find out exactly what she expects from you.
      I had a friend who was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship and it is so hard. Where do you draw the line between being a good friend and getting in the way of something that ultimately has nothing to do with you. I had the same struggle.
      All I could do was be there. Let her offload to you if that's what she needs to do. Go and get her when she is upset. Take her out for lunch and do fun stuff together. Do what you can to make her day better.
      I have had to get up in the middle of the night and get her to take her away from him.
      In the end she left. But it was hard and now she has to go through the civil courts to get her money and stuff back.
      Bottom line. Be there and be supportive. Get ready to catch her when she falls. Let her fall. And pick her up again when she is done :-)
      Good luck I know it's hard xxxxx

    • @savvyhart
      @savvyhart 9 років тому

      These two girls are very right. I myself have dealt with this as well. I was in a destructive relationship. It was very unhealthy for my life, I eventually made the best decision to move on from the relationship and what made it bearable was having my best friend there for me. During the downfall of the relationship, I tried very hard not to put it off on my friend and make her life as hard as mine was at the time. I tried not to lay too many details on her and whine to her constantly. But it was nice to have her to keep me company when it was all I could think about everyday.
      Personally, I thought it was nice that she was there for me and was helping me through it but on the other hand there were times where she pushed me too hard to end it completely. It made me feel like I was completely alone. In the end, obviously she was right but my point is you definitely should express your feelings to her and let her know it is putting stress on you and you are worried about her, but don't make it seem like an ultimatum and make her feel like she has no one to go to. Be there for her no matter what. It will be a very hard time for her if and when she comes out of the relationship.
      I wish the best for you and your friend. I hope she makes the right decision.

    • @Billythachikk
      @Billythachikk 9 років тому +1

      savvyhart I agree with the other girls on this, although I didn't experience any of this myself. I befriended a girl after she got out of an emotionally abusive relationship, and it's still very hard to be her friend, because it affects every aspect of her life still.
      I think an important thing to note is to make sure you tell her, that it's okay that she's using you in this period of her life. As savvyhart said, she was worried about taking advantage of her friend. Just sit her down and tell her, "you know what, I know your life sucks right now, and I love you. So no matter what the heck you need from me, I'm going to be there, the way I know you'd be there for me too."
      Letting her know, that you'll go as far as she wants you to go.
      And I also think you have to be careful with yourself, still. It's a hard line to walk, but don't let her bagage pull you down. You have to be strong and have at least a little part of your life that you do not spend on her. It can be done. Just give her whatever help she needs, and try to give yourself some air at the same time. It would be terrible for you to help her and get a depression or something, because you didn't take care of yourself. Whenever she doesn't necessarily need you, go out with friends or do something else without her. And then when she calls and needs you - be there.
      I wish you all the luck in the world. I can only imagine how hard this is for you.

    @melissagandarinho1288 9 років тому +7

    For the longest time I was 'looking' for someone. That was probably one of the stupidest things I have ever done, and continuously witness other people do. The moment I started just loving myself, being content with myself and really accepting MYSELF...my bf walked into my life. I wasn't looking, wasn't in need of anyone, didn't EXPECT it. And boom. The universe will reward you when you are ready.
    My bf is my best friend, 100%...if we weren't best friends, we wouldn't be together, and that's a fact. I didn't expect it, it just was. As for marriage, I am definitely scared of it. I am not one to rush into it and I often judge, which I know is wrong of me, but I just don't understand why some people rush into it. BUT, everyone has a different opinion, a different way of life and a different personality. So I try not to judge or criticize people's choices. With the divorce rate so so so high, and the need for people to have so many expectations in relationships, it's hard to believe, hope and wish that a marriage would make it.
    I liked the way this post started, I like the way you explained everything and I especially love the fact that you make sure everyone knows people are different and they don't have to listen to what you say. I think everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, and I believe that with certain experiences and relationships, peoples thoughts, actions and experiences change.

    I've been married for 17 years my husband & I married when I was 18. I agree with everything you said in this video! I think allot of marriages also break because they hold on to that expectation & don't realize how reality can be just as great. When I made a decision to invest in my marriage 100% & leave that spoiled little girl who was used to always getting her way in the past it turned our life around. My husband has been their not only in my best moments but always at my lowest points. When I saw him as my best friend it changed our relationship. Their is s quote I heard somewhere that says fake friends want to see you do good but never better then them. I separated myself from those girls that always thought they had the best advice but they themselves didn't have a successful relationship. Anyways thank you for this I think this will help allot of people.

    Girl! I can relate! Relationships are hell. They are amazing a beautiful but oh my gosh are they hard. Love sucks even if you are madly in love its still stressful.
    (Marriage is number 7 on the most stressful events in a persons life list.)
    The one thing that I have to keep in mind is everyone has a different perspective on life and sometimes they just don't match up & thats okay.

    This video is on point! I don't comment often but I really enjoyed this video. Iv been together with my husband for going on 9 years and married almost a yr, lived together for 4. What you mentioned about what your mom had said, I started cracking up cause sometimes I look at my husband and think the same thing lol then other days I'm like omg I love you and so on. There are definitely times where every little stupid thing bothers me or him but we talk it out and let it be, we're different people and it's going to happen but we never go to bed angry and it is a struggle like life is in general.

    THIS IS ALL SO TRUE! hahahahaha THANK YOU NikkiPhillippi for speaking the truth and just doing it in such a fun way (: Expectations and reality can be super different, but it ends up not being a bad thing - reality is sometimes even better because it's not sickly sweet - it's just real and fabulous and love is just as strong!

    I just wanted to say thank you and wanted to ask you to please don't stop being who you are because I feel like this world needs a lot more people like you. I've scrolled across plenty of youtube channels and found things in common with them but have never come across someone like you where literally, everything you believe I believe too. Some things I actually didn't know though because first of all.. I'm only 18 so I've never been through a marriage before but I do believe that even when dating a person they should be your best friend too. I've only watched about 7 of your videos so far and already subscribed in like the first few minutes of the first one lol. I have so much love for you! Please keep doing what you're doing

    I honestly love you outlook on everything! I have been watching your videos for about two years and have slowly progressed in absolutely loving your videos. I feel like I know you (we all do) and its great that someone is covering these topics who is so widely known here on UA-cam!! It's awesome to look up to someone who has the same beliefs as me! I do agree with most everything you say, which takes a lot! Its a crazy world out there. Thanks for being true to yourself!! God bless :)

    I absolutely love all of your videos, especially the How To Be Happy January ones. They're so inspirational and different from the other videos that I see here on UA-cam. Your videos are so happy and uplifting and I will never get tired of them. I can tell that you put 100% in every video that you make and I can see the time that you put into making them. The amount of effort that is brought in your videos makes your viewers want to keep supporting you in everything you do, which is why so many people like watching them :) Your videos aren't just inspirational and uplifting, but they're also humorous. The video clip that you had of you and Dan was hilarious as well. I want to thank you for your interaction with your viewers and the smiles that you help bring to my face as well as your subscribers! :)

    Thank you SO much for this video! I am only 14 so I am not all that worried about marriage, but I think that I am the type of person that has expectations that are wayyyy too high. I not only set expectations for others, but mainly for myself, and I always end up dissapointing myself, which obviously doesnt feel good, and is kind of depressing at times, but I found your advise to be "life/mind set changing" in a way, atleast the expectations part of your advise. This series has inspired me so much! I have liked/favorited every single one of the videos because they have helped me so much, as I said before I am only 14 and I feel like you are like a big sister to me hahaha, Love you Nikki! THANK YOU ❤️

    Loved this video Nikki!! One of your best in my opinion. The beginning was hilarious and quite steamy lol, but then you touched on some really important subjects that i completely agree with. I've never really been in a serious relationship before and that's because I have yet to find all the things you mentioned like that person being your best friend, dating being looking for a life partner etc. I can't wait to find what you and Dan have, I know people joke about relationship goals but you two really are because you're so real about what marriage really consists of, love you guys and great video as usual Nikki!
