    My mom always taught me to put veggies and cooked meat on a wooden cutting board and raw meat on a plastic cutting board. The reason is that the fibers in the wood grasp and sort of absorb particles in the raw meat and makes it easier for cross contamination. So technically, using a plastic cutting board for veggies (like in this video) is perfectly fine, as long as you don't mix it up! But just saying wood for veggies and plastic for meats is an easy way to keep everything nice and clean. Anyways, great video! That wrap looks delicious :)

    it makes me mad that people would say that about yoga. Yoga is honestly incredibly inclusive and even if you go straight to the heart of India they embrace all religions and beliefs and focus on utilizing yoga to bring yourself closer to what you believe etc etc

    I've seen Christian yoga classes before! I think yoga is about connecting with yourself, so it doesn't matter what your beliefs are as long as you feel good about what you're doing! Can't wait to try these recipes out!

    Nikki I have to say... At first when you started to go a little off the normal "beauty guru" route and start doing more health/fitness/lifestyle/advice etc, I was disappointed because I origional my subscribed to you for beauty videos. But now I've seen how you've grown and embraced who you are and what you feel you have to offer to the youtube community (and the world!) so congrats to you for allowing yourself to celebrate what you're really passionate about. Your videos are inspiring and so helpful and I personally enjoy them so much more because It's evident how passionate you are about what you do! Thank you!

    Wow, I clicked expecting to see a cute video of recipes and ended up getting so much more! Thank you for what you had to say about choices and being aware, Nikki. It was exactly what I needed to hear right now and I even took the time to write it down in my journal :)
    I'm a little disheartened to see comments saying that the first 7:40 is just "irrelevant rambling." I love how your approach to #howtobehappyjanuary is an extremely holistic one. It's not just about what food you consume or how you work out - it's about having the right mindset and lifestyle. So thank you again, Nikki. I am so encouraged by you!

      You put my thoughts into words. But yeah I agree with you especially since we know how Nicky is when she actually passionately talks about something unscripted. Maybe she wanted to get her message out and needed some sort of outline I don't know. Seemed unnatural :/

    • @SincerelyKarleigh

      I took a public speaking class years ago and the teacher was amazing. She told us never, ever write out speeches, but to always write out an outline and then practice. Nikki, maybe an answer for you is rather than spending time perfecting a script, perfect an outline and practice it outloud. That way, you are pre-planning and ensuring you will get all your points across, but you are also still carrying a conversation rather than reading to us. I feel silly typing this because I have never made videos and this is your career and you are AWESOME at it, but I thought I'd tell you what I learned from someone who deals specifically will speeches, which is kind of what planned UA-cam videos are

    Nikki I love when I see your videos in my subscription feed! I have been watching for quite a few years but I don't comment too much. I am a Christian too and it is so encouraging to see someone like you on a platform like UA-cam. I know we're kind of already friends through this crazy Internet, but I wish we could be friends in real life!! I made the decision this year to make healthier life decisions in my walk with God, food, and a couple of other areas in my life. These videos are seriously what I have been needing as that little push to help me keep going. I know you read the comments and I hope this put a smile on your beautiful face! Love ya Nikki!

    I just have to say that I've never been one that gets actually inspired by watching health related or life related youtube videos, but you have changed me. I've been seriously depressed about the way I look and my body for a very long time, and I've always struggled with changing it. After watching this video and your last fitness routine video, my mindset has completely changed. Thanks to you, instead of just focusing on looking good and being skinny, I have really realized that I just want to live a healthier lifestyle. I always feel just so blah all the time, and I really just want to live a life and make choices that will make me feel lighter and happier, which will in turn help me feel better about my physical appearance. Thank you Nikki, for finally allowing me to realize what I truly want. No one has ever helped me the way you have, and I appreciate that more than you'll know.

    I am so glad I clicked on this video! I am also a Christian and when you said you were, I got very excited. I love all of these kind of videos... tutorials, exercise routines, eating healthy, and I think it is great that you make them! It isn't that I don't like any other channel just because they aren't all Christian people, but as Christians, we are united in Christ and when you hear someone is a Christian, even if you don't personally know them, there is just this instant connection you feel because you know already some of the spiritual aspect of that person. It is exciting and refreshing in this generation.

    I liked what you said about yoga. Just like drumming used to be used by pagan tribes but we don't condemn drums in worship bands. Yoga is stretching. If we just called it stretching people wouldn't care. If you aren't doing yoga for other religions then don't even worry about it. You're awesome. good job.

    hey nikki! i really respect that you respect other people's religions and beliefs. Hinduism is technically more of a way of life rather than religion. Hindus don't even have a specific religious book like the bible because its more of a practice than belief. That is why yoga is such a big hindu practice. Yoga is just to come to peace with who you are internally and to realize just the peacefulness within us. And its just really good exercise. :)

    Huh? Wait! Since when Christians can't do yoga? WTH... Smh people need to get over it. It's just a form of fitness! It's not that serious to let "religion" rule out what kind of fitness you wanna do. That's so weird! Do what you want girl! I love yoga! It's hard at times but it's such a get exercise for the body.

      Just because we have different beliefs doesn't mean we can't embrace other people's beliefs! I'm atheist and I practice yoga very frequently-I love it. My yoga studio focuses more on fitness/physicality than spirituality, but even if it was very religious/spiritual, I would EMBRACE that, even if I didn't agree with some of that religions beliefs, who cares??

    • @MultiSassy84
      @MultiSassy84 9 років тому +7

      I said the same thing! like, what? 1st time I ever heard that. It's not like when you do yoga, you are chanting, or praying to a God. There usually is some breathing/ meditation techniques etc. but that's quiet time to clear your mind.

And great lunches btw. You are awesome Nikki and it is good that you share your life with us and tell us what mistakes you've done and not just showing the perfections of your life. While I understand how some people might be wiggy about the spiritual side of yoga, I think it all depends on where you're going for yoga and your comfort level! I'll occasionally take yoga through the gym at my university (I'll be going more now for sure, these videos have inspired me and its a good workout for the days I don't run! I love running!) and in that class whenever they talk about centering oneself and calming your mind, I just pray during that time and take the time to relax and think about all that the Lord is doing in my life and how to focus on all the good! :) I look forward to this series every year, and in the stage of my life I'm in now at 20 years old, I'm thankful for the direction you've taken it this year! Thank you Nikki!!

    Don't let anyone make you feel bad for doing yoga, my goodness. What's next, drinking red wine is only for Catholics? Lighting candles is only for Jewish people during Hanukkah? No one has any claim on rituals or exercise, they're just that, rituals and practices. ❤️

    as a Hindu I want to add some point on aspects of yoga.
    The first and most importantly we Hindu do not believe converting people to our religion as the main aspects of Hindu believe is respect others religion and all the the living being.
    so, be assured if you are doing yoga you are not converted yourself to Hindu
    Loll..and Plz do meditate with yoga.. just don't do your thing

    It is true, Yoga is a serious part of spirituality for Hinduism. But, at a bible discussion at my university we talked about, was it "okay" for Christians to do yoga. After much discussion and even my own opinion I really feel like Christians can do yoga. God knows your heart. So if your true intentions are to clear your mind then God will know. He will see if it is for other religious practices or for self physical improvement and peace of mind. If one feels like the Holy Spirit is telling them not to do yoga then don't, if you know it's a good thing for you then do it. It's up to the individual and their understanding and what works for themselves.

    I'm sorry, but "eat the fish and spit out the bones" as an analogy to Hinduism? Are you kidding? And since when did practicing yoga become restricted to Hindhus? Last time I checked, practicing yoga doesn't include converting to Hindhuism. It's fine to have your own religious views and opinions, but it isn't okay to publicly patronize beliefs that you don't agree with.

      yes it is used as a way of greeting but the literal and traditional meaning of it, is as described by her. this happens in many languages. for instance, Annyeonghaseyo is used as a greeting in korean but it translates to "are you at peace?". Also, in islam asalamalakum is another greeting but it translates to "peace be upon you". Hope this broadens your knowledge :)

    This is not suppose to be a hateful comment, just something I've wondered. Doesn't the bible say "don't kill" and yet Christians still kill animals. I asked this from my religion teacher and she said that she doesn't know what it really means so she's a vegetarian. Can someone explain this to me? Just curious! I'm not religious myself

      Thank you and good luck to you too :) I've been without meat for 5 years and now a vegan for 6 months :) If there is a God, I don't think he would like us treating his creations like this. That's why I don't understand how Christians out of all people support the meat industry.

      I don't know about other Christian religions, but my religion (seventh-day Adventist) is permitted to eat "clean" animals such as chicken, beef, lamb and most fish. (It is said in the bible). "Unclean" animals include pig, prawn, crab and other animals which we aren't allowed to eat. Christians don't "kill" animals. We buy them. Hope this answers your questions.

    • @janitajasmin
      @janitajasmin 9 років тому +1

      Lei Falculan Excuse me, I'm sure that some of the people who work at the meat industry are Christians, the ones who kill the animals FOR YOU. Also, many Christians hunt etc. "Christians don't kill animals, we buy them" is the worst excuse I've ever heard. You are paying someone to kill animals for you, isn't that still killing? If you hire an assassin to kill a person, aren't you still the one doing the killing? Well, you are, at least according to the law. It's sad how people can treat cows or pigs etc really badly but if someone was to treat a dog or a cat like that, it would be called animal cruelty. Do you think God sees dogs as any different as pigs? Why would for example pigs be smarter than dogs if they were meant as food? Man chose which animals are eaten, not God. Didn't they eat fruit and stuff in paradise? And the meat industry is destroying earth, your God's creation... Just saying

      Because most Christians (Including me) will revert back to the bible & how it says their will be great decieption (Many Gods claiming all sorts of power and magical miracles. Also in my view Yoga is like contorting the body in ways it should not move....If you've seen the "Exorcism movies" this will help you understand; "Head twisting, back bending, & all the sorts. That is why it is viewed as "obeying other gods before me" - 1 of the 10 commandments "You shall not have any other Gods before me." Hope this helps you understand. (Although I feel like nikki is still with hold in her Christian faith as she told us, so in her case it's just for fitness, in which is definitely ok & not sinful. No one can judge her but question all you want, as the bible says so :)

    I'm a Christian as well and I think it is very close minded of you to say "eat the fish and spit out the bones." Just because you are one religion, does not mean you cannot take away lessons or insight from other belief systems. You aren't going to go to hell for that lol. I just think it's very rude of you to dismiss other cultures/religions. You should also realize that you have viewers from many different cultures and religions, it's not just people like you. Most people commenting never had this belief that Christians can't do yoga. I think you need to enlighten yourself.

  • @yoylos3p
    @yoylos3p 9 років тому +5

    It is recommended that Christians stay away from yoga because yoga postures are offerings to the millions of Hindu gods and as Christians we only worship our only God, our Lord Jesus Christ. So it is important that as Christians we do a little research before deciding that yoga is only a fitness routine, because it is not, or that it can be used as such because we should not. Of course God gives us free will to make our own decisions.

      I've always thought it's fine... I'm Christian and I pray a lot during my yoga classes. God created my body and I don't believe that simply putting my God-created body into a certain position is worshipping other gods. Upward dog is just a abdominal stretch.... Like everyone does that to stretch their abs but just because I do it in a yoga class and not a gym it's idol worship? That doesn't make sense to me. But my mom doesn't feel right spiritually participating in yoga so I can respect that opinion too.
