Double irony points considering what happened to his previous character.

@@christopherbacon1077 triple irony points considering Episode 55
The disparity between Percy, Molly, Caduceus and Ashton is just incredible. This man has such range in terms of character personality.
I love Liam and all of his characters, but his characters have been a tragic stoic rogue, a tragic stoic wizard, and a tragic stoic fighter.
All of Sam's characters have been comic relief trolls with unexpectedly deep and tragic emotional arcs.
Travis, Marisha, Laura and Ashley have played characters who are pretty different, but share some similarities.
Talesin seems to take every new character as an opportunity to do something very different.
I love almost every one of all of their characters, but Talesin's range is perhaps the most impressive.
@@Pro_Butcher_Amateur_Human but I think all Tals characters have a bit of him inside. The curiosity, the amount of times Tals characters say "I wanna do something weird" or "I wanna see what happens". They all have that curiosity that Tal cant help but show. They also have that vague mysterious "I have an idea" and then refuses to explain it till asked lmao.
(Just to say, this is not hate against Tal or his chars, love him). So while they feel different he they do share just as much as everyone else
@@kaikai5963He has said as much if I’m correct.
Marisha: "But you're like cultivating dead people for good tea?"
Taliesin: "aren't we all?"
Sam, silently: "no, nope"
Sam - I drink dead people alcohol
@@lonmania9249 I mean everything we consume is made of dead things. It's very deep.
@@mariavanilla6781 very deep :P
@@mariavanilla6781 as deep as molly body is what I would like to say, but oops, perhaps this joke is out dated
Mr. Tealeaf is dead. The new guy gets tealeaves out of the dead.
I feel like he planned that
Not just any tea. Purple-pink flowers from the textile family.
Woah
Right?! It's genius!
I saw this episode when it came out, I'm amazed that I have never made that connection.
Cadeuces is the only high-wisdom character from the main cast in either campaign that I've felt believably embodies wisdom. It's impressive from a roleplaying perspective, especially because Taliesin also has to deal with having low intelligence. It's an odd matchup, but it works really well with the direction of the character. I especially love the moments where Cad will be completely thrown off by simple questions, only to come up with some odd philosophical or religious answer.
I feel like Jester has moments where she is very wise in her approach to things. She does foolhardy stuff also, but she still treats people with a level of care and understanding, and she is in-tune with the universe.
My groups has always referred to high Wisdom/Low Intelligence as "All Common Sense but no Brains"
Keyleth and Pike had maxed out wisdom in vox machina
Yeah, and Pike was super wise too. I don't know what you're talking about.
There's also more than one type of wisdom. Not everything is Caduceus' brand of wisdom. Jester may not be very worldly, but her emotional wisdom is off the charts. Keyleth had amazing emotional wisdom too, while Pike's wisdom was a general level-headedness in tough situations (as well as emotional and religious wisdom). Vex'ahlia and Percy both ended with 16 wisdom, and both displayed a working knowledge of the way the world works which is generally wisdom-based rather than intellect (also the case with Beau and Caleb, both of whom have wisdom scores of 16 currently). Shakaste is the closest thing I think we've had to Caduceus' type of wisdom, which is a very philosophical approach to having high wisdom.
Tallesin: "He is a Firbolg."
Literally everyone: "I'm on board."
The silent growing group smile of “fuck yeah finally”
Notice how Ashly doesnt looks impressed at all? Thats because she already knows thats she gonna kills caduceus anyway
Considering too Sumalee went Firbolg too when she made Nila.
I don't get it?
Sam: I am terrorfying and darring
Everyone: we hate him!!!
"They were a Textile family. A few generations ago, but now they make very great tea"
That is a good line. That is SUCH a good line
Could you explain? I love that line but I don’t know if there’s like a message I’m missing
@@cricket98741 In life they worked with fabrics, now they are dead the flowers that grow on the graves make good tea. I'm honestly surprised the table reacted as calmly as they did.
@@leoarronson8845 Because it works in two ways. Most of the table assumed that the textile family switched to cultivating tea/tea leaves, when in reality Mister Clay mean't they are deceased now.
Also, the "purple and pink flowers from a textile family" was a nod to Mollymauk and his coloration and gaudy cloak. It's a layered, layered line.
I just realised how much of a morbid joke/line that is, good lord, thanks for pointing that out.
Caduceus is the stoner uncle that everyone deserves.
Cad is that uncle that smokes weed but is very wise as fuck
Awww yea
You know he was growing bud in that graveyard, probably thought it was another type of tea he needed to bake first XD
Funny how Firbolgs are now like, the big loveable fluffy giants that make everyone giddy like, "YAY, NEW KITTY!"
Nogitsune big improvement from earlier editions of firbolg, where they basically looked like large dwarves...
@@leavealoner Because in Irish mythology that's basically what they were.
@@leavealoner Isn't a large dwarf kind of an oxymoron?
I played a Tabaxi for months and I had no idea there were another cat-related race XD
Seriously! Why is are all the firbolgs we've met so wholesome and adorable?!
Mighty Nein- we’re kinda bad people. We’re working on it.
Caduceus- oh that’s nice
(A few episodes later)
Mighty Nein- *kills a ship load of people and then steals the ship for no real reason)
Caduceus- wtf
This sounds like my current players
Zack Hyder As a new DM, team, same. I’ve got a party of 2 murderhobo’s, 1 person that’s just out of it, and one person trying to keep them in line
I seem to recall there were zalezo in between them and land escape. so it wasn't really no reason.
Why does everyone have a problem with that incident? Those guys attacked the Nein first, they just defended themselves. I'm so sick of everyone saying they're murderhobos.
@@addisonwelsh same deal with the people that complain about them going off on the guy that was being a creep towards jester’s mom. That dude and his bodyguards were slavers the fact that they kept one of them alive is merciful if anything.
The closest the nein came to being the bad guy was the ship raid as pirates and they didn’t even kill anyone (though they could’ve at least left the extra loot that avantika’s crew didn’t know about behind).
Underrated exchange-
Nott: "What is this place? Like, a boneyard?"
Caduceus: "Boneyard is a little crass... *in-depth spiritual answer*"
Nott: "So... like a- like a boneyard"
This moment is fabulous and Clay is amazing but can we please talk about Talisen's shirt? "New character who dis?" xD
He planned that.
Jesus I'm still sad but I'm also cackling
Reminds me of Liam taking his jacket off when he cast his first spell and the shirt read “verbal, somatic and component”
Void Merch really has the best shirts
Percy- is nice on the outside but evil within
Molly- might've seem evil outside, but was actually really good and left gold in the pockets of poor
Clay- wise calm quiet and peaceful
Meaning season 3 Taliesin drops the act and goes full murderhobo
william Aldred
Oh my gosh
Percy, the little brother
Molly, the middle kid
And Clay, the weird and wise uncle who grows weed on his backyard
Oh God noooo
Molly was more of a "Good? Bad? None of that, give me your pants"
This dude is like the polar opposite of Percy and Molly
The holy trinity
The good, the bad, and the king. You pick who's which
Percy- techno serious self loather
Molly-devilishly charming Carney with worldly desires and religious connections
Clay- spiritual kind yet morbid stoner
Percy: serious gunslinger.
Molly: Fun loving Blood Hunter.
Clay: Stoner Druid.

I suspect that Matt Mercer and Pumat Sol are possibly the best thing to happen for firbolgs.
I bet sales of Volo's Guide to Monsters are about to increase...
i like how he probably went to matt and was like, "hey, i wanna make tea out of dead people!" and matt was just down for it
though not enthusiastically, givin ptsd from vampire the masquerade, cough cough mushroom tea
“Hey so my last characters surname was Tealeaf and is dead so I was thinking with this new guy he’s gonna make tea out of dead people!”
@@tbugmurphy lmao I never put that together.
I love that it’s being confirmed that talisen improved the the whole tea thing
Since Caduceus will live much longer than the rest of the Nein, I'd like to think that when they all finally come to rest, he'll be able to bury them in the Grove
I think they would like that very much.
This would be the best way to lay the nein to rest
....and drink their tea?
This hurts
Technically they all could just transform into dark elves and live in Xorhouse for a couple of centuries. They wont't, but the option is there
The look on Marisha's face when she realises they will be getting a firbolg permenantly on the team was absolutely precious.
Molly would've loved him

"I'm going way off the reservation"
I didn't realize that there was a reservation for Talisin.
Taliesin acknowledges the reservation, only so as he has a reference for how far off it he is going.
You can’t contain what exists in all spaces
Yeah, I love Tal AND that wasn't the best phrase to be using.
It’s so weird to think that at this point of the show, the Mighty Nein were teetering on the brink of extinction. I mean, three members were captured by slavers, one of them just died, and the remaining three are an alcoholic Goblin, a monk with anger issues, and a fire wizard who gets triggered at the sight of a campfire. Things were not looking good at all.
caduceus saved the mighty nein in so many ways
To think that Talison improved the fact that Caduceus making tea on the spot is crazy to me. Something so important to his introduction and character. These guys are such great character writers
Caduceus Clay and Mollynauk literally have helped me to be less afraid of death lol
The guy who SOMEHOW survived death once
and
The guy who makes tea from death
One who brings and cheats lady death
The other who lives with it and accepts it as a routine.
Like Taleisin coming back as a furbolg "The Dude" is cool and all but can we talk about how much of a cinnamon roll Neela is
Yes she is very cute. And the smell bag is a ridiculous quirky bit that I find endearing.
I know Caduceus is a grave cleric but i could totally see him multiclassing as a Circle of Spores druid (what with the whole natural order/earthly decay aesthetic)
He's not a Druid???
He might do that actually, it fits so much.
While fitting the aesthetic, Spore Druids also have an "interesting" relationship with the undead, being able to create them using either their 6th level class feature or Animate Dead from their circle spells. And this aspect is not compatible with Caduceus' faith. Like, at all...
@@scottbruckner4653 Firbolgs tends to have a close bonds with nature so their racial abilities are very well suited for druids. I assumed at first that Caduceus was Circle of Spores Druid too but Grave Cleric who serves Melora is a really nice idea actually.
@@TheOnlyRealIRONicMAN Mayb e only a multi class of like 1-3 then, like ford and paladin
I love how Cad is just an iron wall of good vibes. Both Veth and Beau try to egg something out of him but he’s just like “what nice folks”
8:58
“I like this man.”
“He’s innocent.”
Something about Taliesin’s gravelly chest voice that he uses for Caduceus is so comforting. One of the many reasons I love him!
I love Cad so much. One moment he's completely distracted by something mundane like a leaf or a fungus the next he gives advice that profoundly touches those around him.
Just, every cad moment is a blessing.
I know it was probably a throw-away line, but im dumb and look for backstory everywhere, so ive kind of clung onto cad's "well, I don't like cages," line. I can't help but feel there's some story behind that
Ironically where he was found, he basically was in a cage. He was surrounded by 3 layers of metal bars and blight-like nettles, and what was keeping him there was a sense of obligation and isolation.
@@Battleguild deep
@@jocelynfisher3174 not really
Something about Clay's voice is very calming to me. I'm so looking forward to seeing him join the Nein.
He must have made it like that as a emotional support player animal thing. WAIT THAT'S WHY HE CHOSE FIRBOLG! TO BE A EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL (please remember that I am typing while crying)
Hey Meg, you doing a Yasha in your profile pic? Cos it's a good look on you in that pic!
I love the gravelly chest voice Tal uses for him - it relaxes me too!
Caleb: I like this man.
Beau: He's innocent.
Caleb: And we're not going to corrupt him, right?
Beau: 😏
Caleb:...we're not going to corrupt him...right?
I love how caduceus is so in tune with the dead and the opposite side of charismatic of Molly. Molly makes people like him through flattery and entertainment, while duce is just calm and honest and okay with anything.
Mariana: “Your drinking dead people tea”

Yes Mariana, uhmm, yes...
It occurred to me while rewatching this scene that the reason he only has 3 extra tea cups is because they were his siblings cups.
Nott with her casual racism will never cease to exacerbate and amuse me.
Do you know Pumat Sol?!
SmilingSkull the best part is that she is the one in the group who experienced the most racism, you would think she would understand a thing or two about racism, but nope...nott is nott
@@P99s-s people who experience lots of pain in their childhood often also cause alot of pain to others. For example this is a typical cause for mobbers, they get alot of heat at home and to feel better they mob other kids at school.
Slaves who grew up in america hate white people.
So its quite realistic that nott became a racist in her goblin days.
Sam will destroy any sort of characterisation for the bit
"Do you only gage time in seasons?"
"It's the only time that seems to matter." Damn Caduceus, spilling some true words there.
"Textile family, but they make very good tea now."
HAAAAA!
I like imagining that when the excitement from Nott, Nila, and Keg happens at 1:00, that the laughter from Marisha and Liam is just Beau and Caleb losing their shit in game.
0:48 And one of the most iconic aspect of the character was born, completely random and improvised. That is why I love D&D so much.

Molly always wore insane outfits.
Seeing the difference between Caduceus then and Caduceus now is really, really interesting. How much of this is Tal getting used to a new character, and how much is Caduceus greeting newcomers? I love it!
Cad still loves making tea for strangers. He’s done it on basically every ship the MN have ever had lol
i just love the motley crue of the Mighty Nein. you have a naive teifling, a cursed sailor, a rebellious monk, a drunk goblin, a hobo wizard, an emo asimar, and a firbolg hippie

Taliesin argues that Caduceus never needed to go through real change - but I think he does. Here he's saying that there's a natural order to things, implying that the dead should remain dead. By the end, he's entreating to the Wildmother to bring Molly/Kingsley back alive.
Damn. No doubt, one of the best D&D characters by far.
I love how Liam is already in love with Cadeuces
I miss Molly, but dang I do love Clay!
Cadeuces: There is a natural order to these things.
*Spoilers*

Gonna miss Molly, but I'm a fan of Caduceus. Can't wait to see more of him. Also sidenote, isn't it funny that both firbolg PC's have an Int of 9?
I mean, neither is playing a character that needs a ton of Int. Firbolgs have a lot of Wisdom, so their worldview probably relies on that more.
Nein!
@@emilysmith3594 Makes sense that a bunch of hippies in the woods would have higher wisdom than Intelligence, especially since in D&D, Survival is a wisdom perk.
Ahh I missed the "I like this man" moment the first time! Thanks for giving us the subtitle since its hard to hear thats so nice of you! x
I'd forgotten about caleb calling cad "herr clay" for a while tbh
Caduceus is like a giant fuzzy mix of the Dude and Bob Ross with religion thrown in

He's picking _flowers!!_
"I haven't had one of these in a long time." oh you sweet summer child. you need to be hugged more.
Liam is just so happy listening to tal explain his new character
Also what’s up with him an colourful characters
I read somewhere, can't remember where so take it with a grain of salt, if you take all three character's primary colors: Percy = blue, Molly = purple, and Cad = pink, you get the colors of the bisexual pride flag. Taliesin is bi and I gather he loves this sort of thing, so I wouldn't have put it past him or it could just be a delightful coincidence.
Tali is a very colorful person.
Nila/Sumalee’s reaction was so cute!!! She is adorableeeee
I just noticed Taliesin's shirt, "New character, who dis?"
Caduceus wears a style of shirt known as the poet's blouse and I love it
It took 'til today for me to get, that a "caduceus" is that staff of hermes thingy, the symbol of medicine.

*Instant flashback of Percy in the Scanlan's Spa Room*
Good callback.
I love this scene so much. The whole scene is just so magical. The music, the ambience, and the imagery of Caduceus' home and most importantly the mysterious figure that is Caduceus Clay just elicits such wonder. All the while, the scene develops a deeper, heavier emotional tone with the mention of Mollymauk. Such a perfect demonstration of the magic of DnD.

I love that he said "I'm going way off the reservation here." yet was the most grounded character of them all. >XD 0:25
I just love how Taliesin wore a “New Character Who Dis?” Shirt
I enjoy this character far more than the other two he has played. Also, he's a great example of how to play a character with high wisdom.
I started watching Campaign 2 solely to meet Caduceus. I saw some animatics with him and just knew I would love him. And I do.💕
I feel like we all really needed Caduceus after what happened in the episodes before, and the energy he has here just exudes from him in everything he does.
Cadeuces reminds me of a younger uncle iroh
Was super heart broken by Molly’s death but Nila & Caduceus made it all better!
Yeah, Matt has pulled some spins before but that would be... horrifyingly cruel towards a beloved character. I like to think he meant more that Molly's legacy lives on in the Nein and that any story elements tied to him (Lucien's Tomb-Takers, the ritual, the spellslinger etc) are still out there, waiting to be resolved, not by Molly himself now but by his friends.
@ajs1031 Um. He never did. It's never happened. :(
Mollymuck=chaotic/ Cadeuces=grounded totally different, yet so similar
Sumalee's happiness in this scene just makes me smile everytime
*watches video*
"Oh, hey... that's great." *sips tea*
i like how differently the group reacted to a main cast-member replacing an old character differently this time, granted laura and travis weren't here this time, but besides general distrust of a new face, they never went out of their way to dislike caduceus, granted the situation for tal replacing molly with caddy-pack and sam replacing scanlan with taryon are much different, and taryon wasn't exactly likable, but still.
I love him I love him I love him I love him I love him
"Do you know him!? DO you know him!? DO YOU KNOW HIM!?"
Nott: “Like a graveyard, a boneyard”
Caduceus: “Well... boneyard is a bit crass. It’s more like a garden *continues explaining* Nott: “So like a boneyard sort of a place.”
I don’t know if this was intentional but it really embodies Nott as a character.
So many Shakespeare refs in this excerpt. So many. Especially Liam and Sam. Well done.
Am I the only one coming back to this clip over and over.
Cad is my favorite character Taliesin made, and maybe my personal favorite PC from CR ever just because he sticks out from the lot being very balanced personality wise from the get go and that's what makes him so interesting, especially compared to the rest of the Mighty Nein. Also I love his aesthetic and flavor.
I love him so gotdamn much,
I knew caduceus was gonna be special when he said "I have to say something now that I think about it..."
This is wonderful. Just great.
That's nice.
I think Taliesin did such a good job in demonstrating to novice Sumalee the RP possibilities in DnD. She was inserted into the story at a time where a player died and came back with an interesting new character. She was absolutely enthralled. I would like to think that she eventually started playing DnD with her friends every once in awhile.
Cadeuce's mild disappointment at not getting another body for the grove.
Man... this went so much smoother than with Taryon.
If you're so bereft of social connections that the death of a character--not the exit of the player--makes you so upset you started throwing out threats, I am so sorry for you. Molly was fantastic, and so its Caddy...but it's all Talesin, he never went anywhere. It's a game, it happens.
Percy-Intelligence
Molly-Charisma
Caduceus-Wisdom
And yes I know that Molly had a higher wisdom but I feel like he embodies the charisma stat more.
In terms of Personality, yes. Especially when the other two fit their stats do well
Percy: Uptight nerd who needs his friends to help him loosen up.
Caduceus: Stoner Hippy you aren’t sure is even listening to you because he’s off poking a toadstool only for him to respond to you with something that’s both personal and profound.
By this alone, Taliesin's frame could hold a house up... I suppose (based upon stuff) it ultimately does.
"were drinking dead people tea?" "Aren't we all?" "Fair point." WHAT DO YOU MEAN "FAIR POINT?" I'M PRETTY SURE TEA DOESN'T USUALLY COME FROM DEAD PEOPLE DOES IT???
Giving you that thumbs up for putting the whisper-captions in there! Sometimes very difficult to hear their whispers on the streams.
I didn't realize how much youth got put back into Cad by the Nein
God I love Cad. So difficult to describe. The absolute glue of the M9.
I love the fact that when Pumat was announced you could see the gears in Tal's head going.
theory time, caduceus says the last time he had someone come to him for help was two years ago anyone else think it could have been molly?
Anselina DuPree Well he said two seasons, so half a year ago really. It could still be molly (though I personally doubt it)
