I'm sure Matt knew what he was getting himself into when he introduced Kiri to the party, having to constantly keep track of phrases she would have to say, but I'm also sure he loved every second of it.
I didn’t realize Caleb was searching for a transmuter’s stone when I first watched this episode, it’s cool how Liam plays out the research and development aspect of being a wizard.
Thanks for pointing that out! I've just recently gotten to episodes where he's been using his transmuter's stone a lot and I had completely forgotten about this scene, even watching it now I didn't realize so thanks
I agree! I didn't even realize it for the first few months, but the way I RP my first PC, a bard, is 100% in Liam's RP style because everything is explained, not a single element of his spell-casting comes out of nowhere because he's done the RP groundwork for his upcoming new abilities to have a reason to naturally develop.
@@seanmcgcostumes I'm more of a sword-and-board type myself, but I absolutely LOVE it when the other players at the table play their magic users that way!!! Makes it infinitely more interesting.
Kiri is great inspiration. I have been creating a Kenku Bard who only sings cover songs. I am learning a lot from Matt as to how to RP a Kenku... mainly listen into everything being discussed and be sure to bring a thick notepad so everyone's lines can be used against them later.
Ikr! I've got a kenku bard too, but I'm a very new player (I've only been part of one session period) so I'm getting used to the mindset of the race. This video is helpful in figuring out the dos and donts :DD
Starting a kenku sorcerer on Saturday and im planning on having a few pages of lines written out ahead of time, to simulate what my character has heard before. Definitely excited to try and RP this guy.
Our party in our Dragon Heist game -kidnapped- adopted a kenku during the playthrough. We named him Soot. My rogue (who had the entertainer background) wanted to teach him some bawdy songs. Part of her retirement from adventuring plan was to do her share running Trollskull Inn and teach Soot every song she knew, bawdy or otherwise. Sadly, he died saving her life during the fight with the BBEG. So that plan never came to be.
Better yet, it would be hilarious if the group ran back into Kiri at some point and she mixed in phrases obviously in the voices of Vox Machina characters, with no explanation. That way they would have to roleplay being oblivious while Matt spoke to them in their own voices, and with the implication they just missed an encounter with the old party on a reunion vacation. It wouldn't have to be much, probably just a darling, an ookay ookay okay, something patronizingly Percy, and liberal amounts of Grog. Useful phrases for a kenku, instantly recognizable, but barely more than a wink and a nod so it doesn't outstay its comedic value.
I really want Kiri to be in this campaign forever. Not only because she's adorable and funny but because she could have EASILY been a throwaway nameless character when they encountered her, if the crocodiles had their way. Just a nice perspective to me.
Nogitsune this is like wanderbots dnd game where in the first few episode they fight some goblins and the leader of the goblins becomes the most powerful character. it gets intimidated in to being a kobold because it was better for a thick Russian accent one of the characters had.
i forgot to mention this is a super super homebrew campaign where one of the characters gets an axe the when rolling a nat one or nat 20 it has the same effect as the rod of wonder but with fiery glittery explosions. also the end of season 1. SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING. is one of there characters polymorphing a super large like 300 foot long purple worm to a mouse and then puting a wall of force around it creating somethin that blows up the planet and then they get catapulted into space with a wall of force being placed around them to protect them from the blastwave.
A beautiful scenario i like to imagine One day while traveling Matt will say : You suddenly hear in a Distance a Yelling "Go F*** Yourself!" and everyone on the table will go "Kiri!" and it will be one of the most heartfelt Reunions in CR history.
Spoilers for the end of the series: Beau and Yasha talked about restarting Fjord's old orphanage and adopting. The did say they would debate raising Kiri if she wasn't happy where she was.
Matt is fucking spot on with these impressions, its incredible how he's able to keep track of the important phrases AND the inflection they were spoken with
I like how in-character Sam is that even his surprised "Oh fuck..." is in his Nott voice, not in his regular voice. It must do a number on his vocal chords, but he's great at it.
The talks machina where Matt reveals that she only has like, 6 hp and was supposed to be a throw away character to introduce kenku to the setting is great.
Does no one notice that Jester taught Kiri the phrase ''Go Fuck Yourself!' to say when ''Someone says something you don't like.' Kiri doesn't like them talking bad about Beau.
It's funny. I watched this episode live, and then a few weeks later I traveled to Alaska and actually found this palm-sized stone on the beach. It was dark grayish-black stone with this brilliant whiteish yellow ring around it. Perfectly smooth with a nice groove to rub my thumb into it when I got anxious. It's been almost 4 years and I still have this rock to this day.
Looking back and seeing Matt ready with a pen(cil) is amazing and I love seeing him write down the lines he's going to use for her. I hope we see Kiri again before the end of campaign 2.
This is my favourtie scene so far, (I'm only up to this episode) but when it happened, I screamed and laughed far too loud for 4am. I wasn't expecting it despite me imagining Kiri walking around picking stones up while Caleb and Nott were talking.
s0n1c b00m yea I got it that would be a spectacle. I’m just imagining the rp aspects of it. Like I imagine Yasha vs Grog, Nott and vax just dealing huge amounts of burst damage and so on and so forth.
The fact that they never went back to visit Kiri is a crime. I know the Campaign was really nonstop for a while but honestly, that little girl deserve's a visit and damnit so do we! I hope they do a one shot where we see her again or something, a nice day trip. Maybe another invention has gotten out of control or something, or there's an attack on the town, literally any excuse to get them there. I hope she shows up as an adult in campaign 3,4,5,6, whichever. it would be so cool.
I'm sure I'm not the first to say it, but I feel like the party needs to find Kiri a safe place to stay before they return to collect their payment, or the Gentlemen's going to have something to say about someone he doesn't trust knowing the location of one of his safe houses. "Are you wearing a wire?"
Kiri: ... No.
Kiri Internally: You fool I am the wire.
Pulls out copper wire "You can reply to this message"
Kiri: yes you fool! i am the very sweet.
This was a literal plot point of some episode of the Flintstones. Or perhaps that live action movie.
They had a bird that acted as a listening device.
When you walk into the garden
Better watch your back
And I beg your pardon
Walk the straight and narrow track

I mean anyone can play it.. the race is called kenku. Its a creature that cant think but can say anything
@@cornelia3912 The other way around. They can think (though not creatively) but not speak freely.
It's funny watching in retrospect, knowing what phrases Kiri repeats, and seeing Matt jot notes down after he hears them.
What do you want to say? Matt is Kiri?
Nah just joking, he is such a great DM and person!
I'm sure Matt knew what he was getting himself into when he introduced Kiri to the party, having to constantly keep track of phrases she would have to say, but I'm also sure he loved every second of it.
Best way to play a kenku.
After watching Kiri, it made me want to create a Kenku character and take a spiral notebook into the game just for mimicry.
StretchyPlays Lol I doubt it, they weren’t even intended to meet her, let alone hang out for so long

"Names are important" just a normal conversation between "CALEB" and "NOTT", any reference is casual.

Ethan Campbell yes
YES
He would become the fiercest babysitter ever.
Absolutely
Cad: "Ooh, I like this one"
Kiri, in Cad's deep voice: "I like this one"
Just imagine Caduceus smile
"Shut up, Kiri! Shut up!"
*"sHuT uP, kIrI! sHuT uP!"*

These little 'RP nudges' by Kiri are fantastic. I'm so happy Matt added her as a potential NPC!
IcyColdStare i need to catch up for this context
5:11 I cannot believe that Liam just foreshadowed Caleb like that. Also the Irony of saying it to Nott.
I had the strangest dream once of Grog and Pike babysitting Kiri. It was the cutest and most hilarious dream I’ve ever had.
this feels like the best filler episode possible.

Nogitsune - seconded! It would be great if she learned to be safe and get clear of any and all danger. I want Beauregard to be wrong.
It would be cool if she trained into a class, like rogue, ranger, monk, or even wizard.
Josiah Klein Kiri’s a child but kenku do in fact mature faster than humans, so it’s not entirely out of the question.
