This is an awesome video! I’ve been searching for more HP & Torque and this seems like a no brainer. Now after 2 years since doing this video, what are your thoughts? I have a 2018 X5 with 21’s staggered plus the M exhaust performance package. Got the black gloss kidney grill yesterday that I’ll install tomorrow. i was optimistic and wasn't sure about racechip and all the others version that are out there. It appears to be mediocre at best and the safest way to plug and play without messing with the ECU itself.

Racechip gives it a bump in power but JB4 is where you’d see full potential along with the ability to mix blends of e85
Glad you like it but all this “tune” really does is increase the boost all other perimeters of the car are the same. For true tune of the complete car you have to go MHD or BM3.

Top Random Things Hello! Although the chip does work, the actual increase in HP was not much when we ran on a dyno. Torque was increased more so giving driver the feel of improvement even though it’s not nearly what you can get with a custom tune instead. Love your posts and I’m definitely going to do the air and take and chip that you did! Damn. Two days ago I got a 2016 535i I M Sport. I was told by this dealer that I bought the car from that Sport plus mode only turns off traction control but does not shift it quicker or add any more boost than sport mode. Please tell me, because it seems that your car was much quicker with this chip in race mode and your car in sport plus mode, what is the straight dope? Thanks for the awesome videos and I look forward to more.
I don’t have Sport + mode on my car. Sport mode increases throttle response and helps your vehicle accelerate faster, but does not change the feel of the steering or stability system.
Sport+ Provides a sportier steering, throttle response and turns TC off. My last run was in sport mode with sport shift on too.

Its not okay :D sounds like you were in manual mode in the 1st and 2nd attempt thats why those runs are slow..you (...or the car) shifted so early, dont be fake for advertising...you can clearly hear the last attempt was on point with gearchanging...and no, you can not run 4.11 with a 535i(maybe on FBO), i have the same car

If your looking for just a little boost in torque it works pretty good. But not much gains in HP. Check out our dyno video where we tested stock vs Racechip vs custom tune.

One question, what if you have a N/A engine. I have a 5.0 non- supercharged jag, would the RaceChip work on that. Bcz on the website the GTS was recommended, but there is no turbo sensor...
I am not sure if they make for Jaguar. May want to reach out to them. They have always responded to me quickly
Why you went for RaceChip, while there is MHD or Bootmod3. How did you meassure 0-60. With just few mods you hit in 4.83sec !!!!!

I just got mine how did you turn your Bluetooth in the chip on?
1 Download the free RaceChip app
2 Switch on the ignition of your car. Do not start the engine
3 Activate the Bluetooth function of your smartphone.
4 Open the RaceChip app
5 With opening the RaceChip app for the first time, the installation dialogue for chip tuning by RaceChip is shown. Touch ADD and follow the instructions given by your smartphone.
Hey I live in bel air and love autowerkes. I didn’t know they did dyno testing!! I’m trying to decide between racechip and a jb4 for my 2011 335i. Have you had any reliability issues running race chip? Now I’m seriously contemplating going to autowerkes for a dyno run before and after racechip or jb4. I don’t know which to go with!!
They are great over at autowerkes! Unfortunately they don’t have dyno access anymore they told me when I called to try and schedule it. Hopefully I can find something local after we get through this virus. I haven’t had any issues with the racechip and works great for me! Pretty sure they are offering $100 off right now.

you don't need to add any aftermarket parts to run the chip
I wonder why these cars depreciate do much. A 50k Bimmer is really only valued at 15-20k when you drive off the lot. Much be the oil leaking from everywhere that help the value...
Love your channel, I have a BMW f10 also that I want to get this chip for it also, do you know if I have to do any modifications to my engine or can I install it with my engine being bone stock?

did you consider the Dinan Chip? is why this company?
I don’t believe the dinan chip allows different modes or allows you to turn off at the click of a button on an app. I like the flexibility of the Racechip and easy to pop out if your taking in for service so it doesn’t void warranty. I’m looking forward to running it with bootmod3
Are you still using it since the this vid, any codes thrown? And did you upgrade the spark plugs as recommended?
Yes I am. I have it set to stage 3 for everyday driving. No error codes. I have not changed plugs as of yet but will be in a couple weeks during my next service visit.
It’s not stage 3, it’s the map aggressiveness 1-5, it’s a simple box that turns up the fuel pressure and ceiling for the manifold pressure (higher than a remap which will give you more power and not have holes in the map)
What do you think of MHD tunes, and also I’m not sure if I missed it or not but is there exhaust tuning option for the chip? (Burbles)
It’s all about preference. I don’t have MHD but maybe down the road to test out. Racechip doesn’t control exhaust burbles like MHD does.

@@hollandf10 There is no comparison between this and MHD. MHD is not a device that you leave connected to your car, it is an actual flash tuning app that uses and OBD wireless adapter or cable. MHD backs up your stock tune to the app in the phone or tablet, and uploads a tune from MHD or your custom tune from a tuner (wedge performance, twisted tuning, etc) to your factory DME (ECU). With MHD you can run premade OTS (off the shelf on tune fits all) tunes or you can get a custom tune that is created for you specific car based on data logs that you take and then send to your tuner who then makes changes and send you tunes until your car is making the best power it can based on your performance mods at that time. The tunes can constantly be adjusted and improved based on what you want. MHD can also change many other things as well, such as burbles settings, sport versus comfort settings, adapt for transmission tunes from XHP or the Alpina trans tune, changes for specific ignition coil kits, etc. etc. All this Racechip thing does is manipulate voltage signals to your TMAP and MAP sensors.
would you recommend? im pretty skeptical. i ordered it directly from the website for my 2017 q50 and tried canceling the order shortly after. customer service doesnt exist. i have read forums of getting engine codes and stuff like that shortly after. is it worth keeping? not trying to mess with the car and damage anything
Ultimately I would recommend a tune be any piggyback unit. I never had issues with it but for true max performance a tune is the way to go.

Did you leave this installed in your car the whole time? Any wear and tear? Engine lights? Vacuum hoses?
Stay installed and you can turn off and select different stages from Mobile app if you buy the add on option. No issues
Is this an alternative to a tune via the obd drive? It looks like a simple plug and play, not having to wait 40 mins for the flash?
Yes it is plug and play. There are other tuning software apps available like bootmod3 that I plan on running with the Racechip together.
ThicGarage brilliant thanks, I’ve ordered an aluminium charge pipe already. Anything else you recommend before getting a tune/racechip? I want to do it the right way and not have the engine blow up on me! I know some suggest a bigger intercooler and maybe a upgraded boost pipe and colder plugs too?

No I would go to a stage 1 bootmod tune first for true HP gains. Watch the other tuning vids to explain why

Will this chip work on a 2007 BMW 530i? I plan to get the XLR as well to remove Delay from the throttle. I was wondering if the XLR and their chips would work.
I recommend you visit RaceChips website to see if they offer your your vehicle. We will be doing a video on the XLR soon as well.
ThicGarage I have. It states for a e60 and e61 series, but it shows the 535i and doesn’t show the e60 whatsoever. I’ll just assume it works though it says 535i beside E60 and E61. I’ll tune in on that video for sure!
I’d this basically a pedal commander? Would it be an issue if I installed this if I already have a pedal commander?
I ran both the Racechip XLR pedal tuner and the GTS Black at the same time with no issues before going custom tune and now then stage 2

Awesome! I totally believe those 0-60 numbers were improved. Too bad we can't have our own private track available to test 60-100 times. There should be a whole lot of improvement there.
Burger Motorsport was testing something like this in the i8 but gave up. It was incredibly hard to get to and when they did get it in there they had problems showing any significant improvement. Sad, because these are a quick way to improve performance.
I picked up a Dragy to measure 0-60 times accurately and it works well and is easy to use. It will measure more than that, as well.
The numbers were not what I was expecting. We do need a private track that would be great! My son mentioned a cool idea a while back to get a lot of car enthusiasts together and purchase land for one. There is also a private airport in forest hill, md that may let us use the runway

Depends how aggressive you drive your car. The more aggressive the more/faster wear. We’ve come a long way since this video was posted. Removed Racechip and went custom tune but recently went stage 2. Tuning by far offers more performance then any piggyback.
@@ThicGarage That's good to know, thanks! I'm trying to weigh my options for a C class in terms of sound and minor performance additions without putting an enormous burden on it over the lifetime. I've been looking into custom tunes and exhaust systems to see what I can get away with. I'll continue to follow you guys tho, love bimmers too....used to have an X5 M sport 4.8, I definitely miss the 380 horses stock.
Im not sure how you guys got 4.11 because the best time on my 435i was 4.6 at basically sea level with no elevation. Plus my car is lighter so that number seems kinda skeptical.
Well it is a 435i…. Not going to be as fast as a 5 series.

i have a 2011 535 as well is their any prior mods the car has to have before buying and applying the racechip? My car is completely stock at the moment
I had the intake and exhaust done before putting in Racechip. Doing chargepipe next before adding additional mods since the stock chargepipe is common to blow.

Have you had any issues with the Race Chip? I have read a few bad reviews and am concerned about the reliability of it initially and over time. I am really interested in the dyno results.
I haven’t had any issues and followed their break in processes. You should not plug in and right of way drive on stage 7 race mode. Recommended to start low and work up stages . If your looking at piggyback systems I do recommend it. Also I have dyno scheduled for next week and should have video posted late next week.

How come the first 2 runs, stock and sport on the chip, you hit 60mph well into 3rd gear.... then in race on the chip you hit 60mph in your 2nd gear?!? I want so bad to believe this chip makes that much a difference but it can change your gear ratios

Got my racechip GTS yesterday and installed it on my F10 535i. left it on default setting and took it for a spin. The hp increase is not noticeable at all. I wonder what went wrong. No error message no nothing.
Should I use map 7 instead? I heard people say at the beginning use map 5 to let the car get used to it for few hundred miles. But just couldn't feel anything. I time it from 0 to 60, its like 8 secs. That don't make sense. It goes faster without the racechip lol.
I also attached on my car. I have noticed and felt the speed after a few times I drove.

You would have to check Racechips website to see what the offer for your vehicle

It does at some torque that you can feel but not as good as doing a custom tune ebay.us/IiwZX2
Does it void your warranty if you installed the Race Chip?
Take it out before you take in for service. There aren’t any changes made to ecu like other ecu mapping tunes such as bootmod3 or MHD. But even with those programs you can put ecu back to stock before taking it in for service.
@@ThicGarage Lets say you have the Race Chip installed and you have a warranty. Before you are going to the BMW dealer for the service you removed this Race Chip. Its all cool. BUT the question is if BMW will be able to see if they connect computer that Race Chip WAS Installed?
Racechip told me there is no way for them to detect any changes since you are not mapping any ECU change.
While I am planing it for my Jag, actually RC is not completely out of detection. Yes they cannot say what device was installed but they can always see modified values coming in. It has been discussed in many forums including bimmerpost. Even SAs, mechs and dealers admitting they can sense it.
Does the install allow you to get rid of the Top Speed Limiter???
No u would need a tune for that like MHD or BM3

I don’t have installed anymore since we did a custom tune when we took to dyno and will be going stage 2 BM3 shortly. I never had an issue contacting them through email.

Defn works and worth the $. no issues at all. Better mpg w/eco setting, Better performance with all of the settings. I haven't figured out yet if it works better in the Ford sport mode or just normal drive... Installed on 2020 fusion 2.0L ecoboost AWD.

Not yet since the local shop closed up. Found another shop about an hour away but plan on doing some other mods before I go so I can run a few different tests. One being a run with chip on and off.

When you said sport shifting, did you mean move the shifter to left and it shows 'DS' on dashboard ? Does it actually go faster than just pressing the sport mode button ? I usually hit the sport button every time I start the engine. Never compare enabled the sport button plus putting in DS mode. I wonder if you add the XLR pedal tuning box, would it even go faster? Any plan getting one ?
Yes by putting car in sport mode and sport shifting you get the max power and shift settings. You will need to enable sport shifting using BimmerCode. The XLR doesn’t give nearly as much as the GTS Black.
@@ThicGarage I think I a confused. I thought by moving the shifter to the left +/- is consider sport shifting ? So is DS mode displayed on dash , is it Sport Shifting ? Do you think we can add sprintbooster to it ?
When I press Sport button, I can see Sport +.
DS Mode is not Sport Shift Mode. I have a video on how to enable the setting with BimmerCode.aftwr it is enabled you will see S1, S2,S3, etc...

Then you’re good. Mine didn’t have it and had to enable with BimmerCode
It’s proven they barely add 10-20 hp which on turbo cars can be done with less expensive mods. A real flash/ tune is only 600-800 sir paying for this is ridiculous. If you dint want to void your warranty just get a ecu flashing module and a professional tune and base tune for inspection or dealer maintenance.
You are correct. I have an new video recently uploaded of us taking it to the dyno and getting a custom tune.

dude, you short shifted the shit out of the car on the fist wo runs and then actually let the z8 work its magic on the third test. of course is was gonna go the fastest.
The first runs were in automatic without sport shifting on or using manually shifting as I did in min the last runs. Car was shifting itself in the first runs. I shifted in the last runs
so let me get this straight, you do 3 pulls and short shift in 2nd gear on the first 2- then run it to redline on the third test and get the best results crediting the piggie on its best setting? lol. This seems like snake oil, seems you are either letting off the gas or the tuner is short shifting until you put it on the highest setting to make it seem like your getting more power. Regardless, skip these crap piggies and get a tune and put some quality mods on your car.
We actually do have a tune on the car now, we got the RaceChip to put it to the test. Gives you some torque but doesn’t overall increase horsepower. If you go to our recent videos we have been doing more performance modifications. Downpipe is installed. aFe intake installed. Chargepipe installed. Ordering intercooler soon. After intercooler, going stage 2 tune.
BM3 is the only way to go

We need to add another camera. But like I said, regardless of what numbers we recorded, the dyno results will be the true test. This was just to get a rough performance of the chip. I don't work for RaceChip and not affiliated with them so I don't gain anything by reporting false info. Thanks for your comment!
