Bit about me:
I'm a huge petrol head and professional Automotive Photographer. I started this channel as I've always had a passion for UA-cam, cars and film making so I thought why not combine them all! I recently purchased and Audi RS3 8P which I love so far and will be tuning it! More cars will be joining my garage very shortly though... hopefully if the Mrs will allow!

Mine has been running well for 5000kms on the rs3 8y. Cannot complain. Dragy times are impressive too.
I installed the racechip chip on my MK8 GTI. It did make the car significantly faster and the delivery of power was smooth. I was able to keep up with the golf r after installing it. Did around 10,000 miles with no issues. But recently my car went into limp mode with the racechip so i got a replacement chip then the issue was resolved (i guess the heat of engine damaged the racechip).
It’s definitely trash
Was this covered by race chip or did you have to buy a new one yourself
@colethorin he prolly had to pay for it, I'd bet he didn't install it exactly right and it was to close to something. You could also prevent it with heat tape or something

Wow, i have a RaceChip Ultimate in my RS3 since 6 years and had no issues so far. Now 270.000 km on it. It seems you dindt maintained your car that well.
My cars in mint condition, I did have it confirmed from Racechip that it was a faulty unit

Racechip are good for lower hp vehicles while those like rs3 and similar with 350+hp better go on regular tune even that is not provide something good things too often

Same thing happened to my F-pace 3.0D First edition, bought a TDI Tuning box but it's basically the same thing. Fine for 1 day, then accelerated to 80mph, Restricted Performance came up on dash, bad fuel economy and no power, been like that for a few weeks. Even took it to garage a couple of times, removed the chip, car was absolutely fine. Never trying a chip ever again!

James. I own a 2022 RSQ8. I put a Pedal Commander on it. It was amazing for the first 3 days. After that the fun started. all of the sudden while driving every single warning light went on every system shut down, The factory limp mode went into effect (where the car will only drive at 8 mph) this on one of the businest highways in America. (the dealer told me that it had all kinds of codes thrown for throttle position,) Incedentaly an 18 wheeler was behind me we were both driveing aprox 85 mph. Thank god he wa paying attention when this happened (when I looked in my rear veiw when everything failed all I saw was smoke from every one of his tires) I think we both sh!t a brick. He got out to first (I think to kick my ass for stopping so quicky) Until he saw how shaken then pissed off I was. Beware of the things that claim to good to be true they usually are.
This is why I took pedal commander off my Bentley Continental always throws EPC codes …how high did u have it turned up?
@@Fasteddie1085 I tried every setting. At first I was in Heaven, seemed like I had added 200 HP and 200 FPT. Then I got real scared when the car went into limp mode from 80 mph and had an 18 wheeler in my rear view mirror.
If you didn't know how and where to install the cables, you are not in the position to talk about any sensors and stuff. YOU DONT KNOW WHERE THE FUCK THEY ARE MOUNTED...
As originally stated in the video, there are about 3 or 4 sensors that are the same fitment in both locations on my RS3 and the manual provided was for a 1.9tdi engine which is completely different. Would it not be better if the Racechip came with the manual and pictures for the car? After a while of research, I managed to locate which sensors were the correct ones. The Racechip still had faults and caused many issues on my car like it has many others.
@@jamesonwatches Indeed, it's a problem with some cars. IF the car is not New, you don't know if it was Re-Mapped... And if so the chip and remap can't work together...

I had no issues with racechip for the last 6 years. How does the car have ful power from 1000rpm if there is no boost at that rpm ?
All the boost came on and then dumped it all. Like I say in the video, Im sure some of them work but mine just didn't.
had a racechip one the older version on my golf it works absolutely fine for me
Like I say mate, quite a few people have good experiences with them but a lot of people also don't. this was just my experience! Was your older golf a diesel?
@@jamesonwatches How do you know that ? You explained that they are a fair company, the support was good, and returning the product was no problem. They promise 30 days return. They give you 10k euro engine warranty. If there was "a lot of problems" and only "a few good experiences", then this firm would declare bancruptcy very quickly. I think the device works with most of cars. I think we can't expect the advertised parameters, but only about half. They lie about it. I think they have some problematic cars, and they know that, thats why the return is so smooth. Actually it's like a game of chance, you make a try and if it works you'll be a happy customer. If you are unlucky (with your car brand/model) you send it back and you are disappointed.

For all of you hating on the video and the product it self, most people buy the RaceChip products to evade breaking their manufacturer warranty. I've had them on 2 new cars for the first 3 years while they were under warranty as i can easily take them off 5 mins before it goes in for a service. Most people who lease cars for 3-5 years, this will be one of the few options on tuning and quietly keeping the warranty =D
Obviously if its not under warranty a proper remap is much better, but these do work and are way cheaper than a remap.
Tough I have worked at BMW in the past, and off course they are able to read out the car. If they see sensors making certain numbers, they suspect a tuningbox. Here you will get a extra memorandum on your numberplate(as suspected tuning), and it still voids the warranty if something happens and you try to claim it.

@@krisbodurov1497 Mostly they only do a simple readout. If the sensor doesn't read any wrongs, it gives a green tick and isn't investigated. When it's fine, it's fine. But when a fault is detected, they normally do more investigation work. Checking the boostpressure sensor is one of em(It's odd if the sensor gives readings of 1 bar while it normally should give 0.6 for example). This is the same with an older fault that the computer stored. It will pop up when diagnostics is done by the dealership. Basically the same for VW and BMW. Every visit to the dealerships garage will be a readout. Unless you come for a lightbulb or so. ;)
@@TheVeenmeister Yep I suspected that, because im software developer and we always leave logs, im pretty sure the car does that also.. So I guess there is no real work around to tune your car and keep warranty.. One thing that I really hate is that those premium brands does not offer any tunning, atleast in EU. I have seen a lot of BMW dealers in USA they offer all kind if remaps and boxes and your warranty is still there. I think it will not be the bmw factory but your dealer one, but who cares warranty is warranty.
Im just a tunning guy, and the idea that I have 420 hp car which can easily go to 500… and I cannot do that, because of car warranty, is just killing me..
RaceChip is best for those cars where they use the same engine capacity for all models but have limited power on cheaper models.
A great example is the W169 Mercedes A Class CDI. All three used a 2 litre block with varying power. Add the RaceChip to the A180 and it comes closer to an A200
An RSx is already modified to its near max potential so i wouldnt be wanting to add one to it personally

My ECU isn’t supported by many remap software, so I had to get a race chip Audi,A6 C8 55TFSIE with simos 19.2 ECU.
Same here. BMW locked their ECU after 06/20230, so I have no other option, except over £1000 FEMTO unlock. :(
Owns an RS3, cheaps out on a remap and complains on UA-cam about it. Good one.
Am I not wrong that they are suppose to be a reputable company? Also if it worked then great, I would have saved £400 over a remap but I was prepared for it not to be.

would u think a 1.2 105hp tsi volkswagen engine will be a great fit ? it should be reliable for that ?
Should be fine but if it's not a turbo I wouldnt bother as all it will do is change the fuel timing. You'd get more for your money with a throttle response unit!

Surprised you’d put that near your rs3 bud! Definitely go down the proper tuning route and I’d recommend looking at having the injectors changed before hand to stop the common faults causing engine failure!
Yeah totally agree mate! My thought process was “they have a 30 day refund policy so if anything happens then it will happen straight away”. Thought I’d try and save £300 but surprise surprise!
if not mistaken, isn't a RS model a S model that factory Audi has Already Tuned the Shit out of that inline 5 to make it a RS and Fast ? !! this little engine is already tuned Up a lot so I'd think you're playing with fire.. yes, ecu re-tune is an option, but even then, aren't you risking issues with any car / engine/drivetrain when trying to get more out of something that is pretty much already maxed out or almost maxed out of power it can handle ? I'm still learning about this and shopping for a tune for my Kia Stinger.. JB4 is a popular one..
These engines on stock internals are tuneable up to 600bhp (with a hybrid turbo etc) so not worried about the internals. Yeah I’ve seen the JB4 boxes but unfortunately they don’t make it for this model of RS3. The car definitely isn’t maxed out from factory as it would be too risky for the manufacturer
@@jamesonwatches any other RS3 guys have issues that you found ? all products have a bad one. Would be wonderful world if any product on the planet was actually perfect with never any issues or defect, but if racechip is hard to reach and get support, or replace it to dbl check another model, then yes, I'd be worried about their quality. I've email them twice with many questions and they finally replied both times, but not with answers to all the questions I had, which I Hate !! I asked 7 questions, answer them all or tell me to fck off then.
Only issue with these cars is carbon build up but that’s down to the owner to maintain and injectors had an issue but most got recalled and fixed

How does a car drop from 3rd to 7th gear
When I say drop, I mean it was under heavy load in 3rd gear and then gave up so jumped to 7th

From your video, i would expect to hear that your engine blew up and you didnt get refund for product but the chip company actually tried to assist you and even agreed to give refund so i dont understand wtf this is about.. just cause you had 1 machine not working with it
I’ve had different racechips on 3 different cars now and they’ve always caused an issue. Never good to piggy back the ECU. Not a problem with the company’s response or communication or effort to fix it, just the product not working.
