Good review and I agree. It sits squarely between the 18 and the 25 for me. I like it considerably more than the 18 and it is close enough to the 25, that for the money I would take it instead of the 25. These days macallans are all over priced. I think that there are much better drams for the money, but this one sits at a fair price point considering it's taste.
Hi guys Im new to whiskey and wanna go get my first 3 bottles of good stuff. I have decided upon Lagavulin 16 and Glendronich 18 Allardice, what other one should I choose? What is the same quality as the Macallan rare cask? I cant get the Macallan rare cask here in SA.
Hi Joe, nice review. I visited the distillery over the summer and our tour guide spoke a little about this whisky. According to him it was brought out in response to the American market and its reception of the 'Ruby' in the 1824 series. For some reason the word ruby' isn't seen as luxurious as it should be in the US sales weren't as good as hoped. Therefore they developed the 'Rare Cask' as I guess the word rare and the story surrounding the whisky is seen as more exclusive. Yet to try it but very much looking forward to it, along with the black version. All the best.

Nice review as always. Not sure about these new Macallans though. I've not tried the Rare Cask but I did buy the Ruby. It is very good granted, but I'm not convinced it's worth the money, especially when you can buy something like Glendronach 15 yo Revival for less than a third the price!

Hey man...love your vids. I was just wondering if it would be possible for you to review other alcoholic beverages like gin? or do you just stick to whisky?
I think for the price I would buy other bottles first, especially being a NAS whisky costing me about $250. I'm not saying NAS whisky can't taste good, but at least with aged whisky you get a price point factor. Because of that, I will not spend alot of money on a NAS whisky. Macallan whisky is overpriced to begin with, especially the 18 yr.
Hey do you think this is a good investment to keep for about 30-40 years and also is this limited edition? Thinking of buying my brother it for his birthday he is a whiskey collector thanks
+thor Hi! There are better Macallan bottles you can buy for investment. I would personally buy the Speymalt Macallan range by Gordon & Macphail. These are far more affordable, with vintages and age statements. They're becoming increasingly more popular every day!
