Great review, I used to drink a lot of mac years ago, but like many, I haven't bought a mac in years. My go to was the 12 sherry especially when remy was the importer. Cheers
The best thing for me regarding Edition 2 was it's trade value, considering I paid $135 Cad each for 2 of them. Loved the Macallan cask strength, but like all Macallans the value to quality is just not there unless the bottle is sold or traded of course :)
The best one was the 25 i had distilled in 1958 and bottled in 1984, the second is the Oscuro, a travel exclusive. In lock down available to non travel too. Thirdly a cask strenght bournbon matured 20 yo
Well, thanks mate! If you say so,... It is what it is. I'm mean, my budget is still between the C-B tiers. I've only tried the 12-yo triple cask and the amber one, which I enjoy the most. What I have to do is keep myself moving to reach the A tier ASAP, at the least 😆😁🙄😅 Cheers!,...have a good one!
@@SippersSocialClub so we tasted Rare cask #2, editions 3,4 & 6, double cask 15yr & Classic cut '17. My top 3 were edition 6 then 4 followed by classic cut
I have a feeling Macallan is heading for a big fall off with regard to sales. The 12 year Sherry Oak is running between $90 and $105 where I live in the US. And Classic Cut is $200. I won’t be buying either when I can get GlenAllachie expressions so much cheaper. Cheers
Have not tried all of them but the best Macallan I had was 18y 1990( have not tried the 25y) Pretty much agree on your scoring maybe i put the 12y sherry ahead of the classic cuts😬
I picked up a couple bottles of The Macallan Oscuro a couple years back and I've been extremely slowly nursing one of them. It's easily the best Macallan I've ever had but I haven't tried many of the ones you have on this list. I'd be curious to see how you would rank it among the others you've tried.
I really wouldn't change much if anything at all from your rankings. I do agree that the N6 is best out of those, and above that I would put the Macallan M in 1st and the 30 Year Sherry in 3rd if they were on the list. Solid list though!!
I had a 25 distillery exclusive once it was amazing. The first batch of the 15yo fine oak was great. Never got on with the 18. The 10 sherry oak will be missed, superior to the 12 imo
I had a Macallan 15 Triple Cask a year back and tasted so manufactured, I would definitely be putting that one in the 'D' category. Otherwise I think your ranks are quite fair, for the ones that I know... Thanks for an interesting video.
Interesting ranking and will vary among others of course. I've had maybe 8 of these. I just wish Macallan would make a decent modern priced whisky today. Way, way overpriced. You have to do an auction and get lucky without over paying. I do have a G&M 19 yr cs that's good, but $300. Got a Sienna backup, 1995 18 yr and ED1. Your right, any duty free shop will have their own line of Macallan. It's crazy. Great review.
@@SippersSocialClub 100% agree. Whenever I go to Europe, every duty free shop seems to have their own line of Macallan. It's crazy what a distillery can produce.
Hi Jeremy I haven't had alot of Macallan's, but I have several bottles of Macallan's, I want to say my favorites of Macallan that you have put on the lower scale are the edition series, and I have the Macallan #3 thru #6 and wasn't able to pickup the #1and #2, my favorite of all the edition series is the #edition 4, it's my favorite scotch of all time, I have bottles of the rare cask batch 2,the 2018 18year old, and several of the 12year old sherry casks of yester year, I also have a bottle of the Macallan 15year old triple cask, and that's the worst bottle of Macallan I have ever tasted. It's a good thing that whiskey is a subjective taste and smell for all of us, because you and I have different tastes in whiskey for sure, but you hit the nail on the head for many of many of the Macallan's, bottom line is they are all over priced for what you get, I don't buy them anymore, my favorite whiskey of late is a bottle of deanston organic oloroso 16 year old, I'm trying to find a new bottle for sale right now, cheers brother and keep the great videos coming !!!
@Sippers Social Club It does Jeremy, I'm trying to find another bottle now!!! I also have a bottle of deanston 22 year old Palo cortado by deanston, I have really been loving bottles of deanston of last couple of years, I will be buying anything deanston from now on, thanks for the kind reply, and cheers to you and Rob, watch all your rants and videos, keep um coming !!!
I have a bottle labeled "elagancia". Un opened. Curious if anyone has had it or has an opinion. It was a gift from a friend many years ago. Curious if I should open it or sell it??
@SippersSocialClub Not too many wiskey auctions where I am from. Ebay is about all I could probably pull off. An empty bottle is listed at $300. lol Cant see any others listed so there is my quandary. No idea of the market price.
Nice vid Jeremy. I haven't had nearly as many Macallan expressions as you, but a fair amount of these bottles. I disagree a bit with the rare cask view, having drank from a few different bottles. While I think the price is silly, take that out of the equation and it's about as good as you can get for the money. Edition #2 was one of the drams that got me hooked and I've had them side by side and rare cask holds up well if not better. Compared to today's 12 sherry for $160 it's almost worth the $400. It gets.a lot of hate, but it is a super enjoyable dram.
@@SippersSocialClub Nice, that's good to know. I've always wanted to try out Macallan but have always been put off by the price/value. I've seen a few old ones before and haven't pulled the trigger yet but sounds like I need to
I'm not sure if it's available in Canada, but 'A Night on Earth' might contend for a D - it's all the bad features of modern Macallan in one product: Mediocre young whisky, at too high a price point, in packaging that is really a bit much given the contents of the bottle.
Until the last couple bottles, it looked like you were making a giant middle finger toward the price of Macallan vs value…. Still have an unopened 1995 18 year Sherry cask sitting on the shelf, cause I know I can’t replace it.
I think the only place we differ is in your A line. I’d bump out some of those a put the edition 1 and 2 up there. Great idea for a video. Cheers!
Yeah , I think I could have those at the back of the A's for sure
Great review, I used to drink a lot of mac years ago, but like many, I haven't bought a mac in years. My go to was the 12 sherry especially when remy was the importer. Cheers
Yes! Those were epic, only tried one. But pretty much all my bottles are Edgerton
The best thing for me regarding Edition 2 was it's trade value, considering I paid $135 Cad each for 2 of them. Loved the Macallan cask strength, but like all Macallans the value to quality is just not there unless the bottle is sold or traded of course :)
Lol, we know what old Macallan purchased at retail are good for
Awesome. Would love to see you do more tier rankings of different distillers. Cheers, sir!
Could probably do Ardbeg next :)

In my opinion the old 10 year old Cask Strength is my best of all time.
Thank you for the great comparison video.

@@SippersSocialClub I can’t remember, it was a sample given to me by my wife’s friend who had bought the bottle at the distillery back in 2010

I should have bought a couple cases.

Over $3,000 I think

Haha. Me too, but I had to get it about the old 12
If you saw an old Macallan 12 "brown box" out in the wild would you grab it?
If it was under $100 yeah
I’d pay up to $100 USD. It is way way way better than the current 12

The Macallan 18 sherry oak in Australia is $1,300... absurd.

72 bottles in 72 18 year old I think one of the best for the price I drank the 70 18 yr old was good I think the 72 was better by a little bit .

too confusing and cant read the bottles
