Using the silver fabric was actually a pretty genius move. Not only does it improve the flame effects with the light reflections, but it's also kind of dark on the top, giving the illusion of smoke coming off the top of the fire. : )
You don't need the table saw. They used homemade wooden blocks to prop up the fans, but there's nothing stopping you from using bricks or stacks of books, for example.
I’m an FX artist and worked for Imagineering for years and this is exactly how the fire effects in the pirate ride is created. The only difference is that they use a transparent plastic wrap, like Saran Wrap instead of curtains. That way the flames are also transparent, allowing props and walls to be see through the flame. Great job though with very good step by step instructions. I enjoy your channel. Try it with plastic wrap next time and see how it turns out. Just make sure the lights don’t contact the plastic because it will melt easily.

Outstanding effect! Wish I’d have had this info a year ago when we were creating fire effect for a marching band show this would have saved hours of work. What a fantastic idea! There are so many possibilities with this. Different colored lights, putting an animatronic prop in the window, even a TV or monitor with an animation playing in a loop.
Light plastic sheeting like paint covers make for a good substitute cloth and you can see on the other side of flames for additional effect like timbers with glowing embers made with foil partly painted black to allow some of its crinkled surface to reflect the fire light. The plastic tricks the eyes into seeing a smoke filled room with burning timbers which will fluctuate with the dancing light.

I wonder if a mini version could be done with a small usb fan and leds in a pumpkin. Sure a flickering led candle is okay but a brighter pumkin with this more dynamic effect would be cooler.
You can buy led light bulbs from Amazon. They flicker like a real fire lantern. I have one on my porch light and it looks so realistic. My wife hates it tho... Lol
That's very cool and looks 100% real. It will probably be fine, but I would keep an eye on that just in case. Keep up the great work.
You guys are great! So detailed and precise. This worked well for me. I first tried with a backdrop instead of the silver fabric and that was a bust. I remember about 12 or 13 years ago I was testing out a fog machine in the garage with the door open. Somebody actually called the fire department on us. Most of the crew laughed when we told them that it was from a fog machine. After that day we decided to put a sign out saying "Fog Machine In Use".
That's why I think it's a good idea to have someone at the house during the hours the prop is on, that way if something does go south there is someone on the property to call it in to 911.
Everyone is taking this so seriously.. these people own a beautiful house. They are not stupid enough to let this run while they aren't home nor leave it unattended at night. As the fireman said, everything they have implemented is as safe as can be. Yes, fans, fabric, and light bulbs are a train ride to disaster, but they've taken the safest route possible. I bet they only let this run 2-4 hours a day max
SO well done... the fire effect AND the video! Very easy to follow and thanks for the safety-conscious tips. Thanks to all the firefighters out there who help to protect us from REAL flames!
Hi ! You guys rock ! I’ve been in companion with my neighbours as to make the scariest house on the street! And as long as they don’t know about you guys ... I’ll be the champ this year! Thanks ! Keep the ideas rolling !
My local fire department actually saved my cat. I was 15 and I truly had no idea who to call he was way up there in the tree had been stuck two days. I just called the non emergency number to ask advice saying who would I call because the media suggests fire department for cats in trees lol. He laughed and said he understood. He said they had actually never done that before at his location and he's happy I called lol. He said well first just give him a few days and try to lure him down with food "his instincts to eat will override his fear, on the off chance it doesn't work call us Monday"... didn't work, they sent the new guy up the tree and his new nickname was catman lol. They were very kind. I'm sure they didn't have to by any means but they did. He wasn't coming down. I'd call him because he was yowling loud wanting down. When I'd call him and he'd realize I wanted him to come down he'd rub on the branches like ok nm didn't want down bad enough to do it myself lol.
Sunnie DIY Don’t like the “wait several days” suggestion. Some areas have predators that can climb or fly. Owls, vultures, hawks, possums, raccoons, coyotes, cougars, and foxes, and feral cats can injury or kill the cat. If you didn’t have an a frame ladder than was y’all enough with level solid ground, you could have asked a neighbor for one or to hold a ladder, and then called the fire department for a non emergency if that didn’t work
@@Maaad-maaan Where I was wasn't an issue, in the middle of town very few predators. Definitely none way way way up there that's the help he offered. None of our ladders went up that high and dad worked in construction. He was fine and it all worked out but I did try explaining to the fire chief that the cat most certainly wasn't coming down. I explained I had already offered food lol. That the cat kept calling panicked until he realized I expected him to come down on his own for it. Then he'd rub the branches. Like "No I'm just fine up here I changed my mind, I don't need down that badly".
@@Maaad-maaan if cats miss too many meals - as in several days of not eating - they can develop fatty live disease. This can be fatal if not treated. So the suggestion to “wait several days” could have killed the cat! I;m glad it turned out for the better, but helpful reminder, make sure your cat is eating regular meals.
It reminds me of the town on fire magical illusion that Disney Imagineers had created for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the parks. At first, that even confused the Disney parks’ fire department and they thought it was real. The Imagineers had to temporarily shut down the ride and show the firemen how the illusion worked in order for them to be convinced it was only fake. That’s how great the effect was. These people in the beginning of the video said that when this effect was inspired from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney parks, they absolutely explained my point. Great work guys 👍
If you use gaffers tape instead of duct tape, it will release easier when you want without a nasty residue. It holds very well and is easy to work with.
AWESOME! Own an art studio and would love to do this considering I am a block away from a firehouse! And for sure my neighbors would be harassing them and they would make me take it down...LOL! But this is AWESOME!
I think I can see 2 parallel wrinkles going horizontally across it, but it's still very cool. Hey maybe make the flames green or especially purple so people don't think it's actually real?
FABULOUS AMAZING WAY FUN fire!!! GREAT job!! You could use the tape to make rod pockets rather than sewing them. Just fold the fabric over to allow rods to slip through and duc tape shut rather than sewing seam...
This is so simple to set up and looks INCREDIBLE!!!, THE BEST realistic fire effect I have seen, ""I LOVED THIS""I adore Halloween and the USA do the finest Halloween stuff, i love your enthusiasm, well done.and happy Halloween from the UK.
This looks so real and it's not even hard which is a huge plus in my book. My husband and I have been decorating for Halloween for the 23 years that we have been together and we're always looking for new exciting things we can try. Thanks for this awesome video! Y'all are amazing!
I'd try adding a blue and/or light pointing over top of the red & orange so as to create a smoke effect but looks pretty real. For much smaller areas, I'd use a quiet fan for computer.
Amazing effect. The silver curtains made it look like smoke. I agree with a commenter below and add a demon in the window to let folks know it's fake. LOL
I can't tell you how impressed I was with this. I love that you didn't cheat safety and asked a pro for safe measures if there was anything else he'd advise. I would add if you do notify the fire dept and your neighbors to try to have a specific time rage they can know about so in the event anything were to go wrong and it's not during those times they don't just shrug it off as you having the effects on a different time. 🖤🧡🔥
That looks amazing! I'm reminded of a time when I was younger. For Halloween I took one of those plastic pumpkins with the lightbulb and attacked it to a stand with a sheet around it. Placed it on a chair on our patio. I then used a humidifier under the chair to make "fog" flow out from underneath. It looked cool. but when my parents got home from bringing my brothers trick or treating, my step father tackled my display thinking it was on fire.
Please Please Please Please people use LED bulbs. Do not take the chance with hotter bulbs as we know all of you who do this are going to leave this set up unattended. Do not allow small children to get anywhere near the fans Here is are some ideas that came to my mind watching this great video: You can put the box fans on the floor but at the video suggest, put something under them to allow air flow. If you get the right size carboard boxes (so your fans will sit correctly on top) you can cut rectangular holes on each side of the box, at least 4" tall x 6" wide. on all four sides. This should allow enough air flow without too much suction, if there seems to be a lot of suction on the holes make the holes a little bigger, just be careful you don't destroy the sturdiness of the boxes. For the fabric, you can create cradle poles to hold the fabric out. The easiest way I can think of is to get two 1" Furring strips. I would recommend the 1"x3". Use a drill with a speed bore and cut a hole in one end of each. This hole should be big enough , so the the pole you are attaching to the fabric will slide into it. Basically you are gong to make a "Canopy". Attach your fabric above the window. Attach your pole to the other side of the fabric. Make sure your pole is long enough so that you have a couple inches of pole sticking out on each side of the fabric. Now roughly measure how long your two furring strips need to be to hold the pole out away from the wall far enough to give your fabric the look you want. It's better to have them a little longer than you think. Slide a furring strip on each side of the pole so the the bottom of the furring strip go back to the floor under the window. if you need to make adjustments, try rolling fabric onto the pole to make adjustments, before attempting to cut the furring strips shorter. With some trail and error you should be able to get a good placement. You can also use a 2"x4" or tie some weights to the end if you need some more "pull" on the fabric. Finally, a sign on your front lawn that says "Our House Is NOT On Fire!!" might be helpful. lol

It even looks like there’s smoke above the fire !🔥
it’s crazy how realistic.
Great job 👍
Happy Halloween🎃
Very smart to have interview with fire fighter 🔥🧯 and safety tips!! Very honorable people!
Hi ! You guys rock ! I’ve been in companion with my neighbours as to make the scariest house on the street! And as long as they don’t know about you guys ... I’ll be the champ this year! Thanks ! Keep the ideas rolling !
Haha! That sounds great. Good luck! :)
I'm stunned at how real that looks! Crazy, smoke & flames!
Hahah! That’s an awesome story! 😄😄😄
@@Maaad-maaan I'm pretty sure they took the wild animals in the area into consideration before they made the suggestion of waiting afew days hah
Creepy how realistic that looks!!
But this is AWESOME!
glad to see this isn't a click bait photoshop job in thumbnail ! fantastic work! looks awesome!
Instructions unclear, my house is literally on fire.
Literally or actually?
pg1171 both🤡
@@pg1171 It's the same thing silly
LOL 😂😂😂😂
I think I can see 2 parallel wrinkles going horizontally across it, but it's still very cool. Hey maybe make the flames green or especially purple so people don't think it's actually real?
I showed my mom this and dad, they love this idea. They said you guys are so creative.😊
Woo thanks! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼🎃
I absolutely LOVE people who do this sort of thing. Especially when, as in this case, they do it so well. Bravo! and thanks.
Thanks! :)
Wow! That DOES look realistic! Subscribed 👍🏼
Thanks! :)
FABULOUS AMAZING WAY FUN fire!!! GREAT job!!
You could use the tape to make rod pockets rather than sewing them. Just fold the fabric over to allow rods to slip through and duc tape shut rather than sewing seam...
might also try "darting" the fabric is small places to give it a higher climbing effect.
WOW! Amazingly realistic. I've never seen something so realistically close to the real thing. Awesome job.
Looks great, nice tip
I'd try adding a blue and/or light pointing over top of the red & orange so as to create a smoke effect but looks pretty real. For much smaller areas, I'd use a quiet fan for computer.
Scary real , only thing missing is the smoke .
Looks like real flames AND smoke. Very impressive.
OMG this is so creative ❤
😄😄😄😄😄
Amazing effect. The silver curtains made it look like smoke. I agree with a commenter below and add a demon in the window to let folks know it's fake. LOL
How dare you guys not show us how you made that coffin entrance in your house!! Lol
That is really good. Looks totally real. And the silvery material gives the effect of smoke
What do you guys think about using a reflective mylar emergency blanket instead of the silver satin? Would it be too reflective?
I’m not them
Cameron J. Pearson So helpful. Thanks.
Probably too reflective? Not sure! Try it and let us know. 😄
Wicked Makers I wiil! 👍🏼
Thank you!!!! 😄
This will definitely look amazing for my Michael Myers, Halloween Kills theme look for the movie next year🎃🔪
That looks amazing!
The sound of a Christmas yule log on speaker would take it over the top!
Definitely! 😄
Tony Roll was Thinking the same thing.
Both day and night are AWESOME!!! I think I like the daytime best...the "silver" looks like smoke!!! BADASS!!!
Thanks!!! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Please Please Please Please people use LED bulbs. Do not take the chance with hotter bulbs as we know all of you who do this are going to leave this set up unattended. Do not allow small children to get anywhere near the fans
Here is are some ideas that came to my mind watching this great video:
You can put the box fans on the floor but at the video suggest, put something under them to allow air flow.
Finally, a sign on your front lawn that says "Our House Is NOT On Fire!!" might be helpful. lol
Wow, I just discovered your guys channel and I’m in love! I’ve been obsessed with this kind of stuff my whole life, especially with regards to Disney and imagineering and all that stuff, and I’ve always wanted to do my own cool DIY stuff. Please keep the videos comin’!
Backfire: the house actually catches on fire while they are telling trick or treaters that it is just fake
I am sitting here coming up with ideas for halloween props and came across this. Took me a couple minutes to realize that I used to work with you in California at Broadway gym! Love this Jay! Very cool tips!
Me: Oh like Pirates of the Caribbean
Them like one second after: Its inspired by the POTC at Disneyland!
Me: yay this is gonna be good!
I really want to do this, but I am part of my local fire department and before your friend even said anything, I could see way to many people calling this in, because with the fabric you used, it even looks like there is smoke, which is at that point what we call a flashover.
That is way too cool on how realistic it looks!
*Alexa light my house on fire"
*House spontaneously combust*
*Don't trust the government*
