On our 2022 tour of the Spirit Halloween store, a strange girl caught our eye. She seemed to stare into the abyss and her soul screamed with emptiness from the horrors she had seen. We knew right then we had to take her home with us. We also picked up the Spirit Halloween Swinging Mechanism - a versatile Halloween animatronic that can turn any prop into a swinging nightmare.
The Empty Soul Girl on a Swing setup was quite easy in spite of the lack of directions. She’s a lightweight Halloween prop that’s sure to scare all the trick ‘r treaters in your neighborhood. But we knew we could make her better. We went to Goodwill to find a creepy nightgown (also a great place for Halloween costume ideas!) and got to work. We’re so happy with how she turned out! She reminds us of a mix between Samara from The Ring and Kayako from The Grudge.
It was nice to take a quick break from our DIY Halloween projects to work on this Spirit Halloween animatronic makeover. Empty Soul Girl is a scary Halloween swinging animatronic that we can wait to add to our 2022 Halloween display! Spirit Halloween Decorations are a great way to make your yard haunt extra spooky or to add jump scares to your haunted house this Halloween!
Time for a Spirit Halloween animatronic upgrade!

Y’all are so creative keep the good work!
Already there! Love seeing all the cool projects. 😎 👏🖤
Y'all really do have some amazing vision for your projects. I look at the stock model and think: "Looks creepy...how can it be more creepier? It can't be possible." Then Jay and Jamie say: "Hold my acrylic wash."
Imagine if this was real and because the swing was too fast she falls on the mud where her face was facing then that night, people who lives close to where she was could hear a loud EWWW next morning everyone would talk about hearing a demon voice screaming ewww
😂😢
Set this up and run it every evening for one week prior to Halloween. Then, on Halloween night, switch it out for a real teenager in costume. The brave kids who have seen it all week will have no idea what is about to happen. I did this with a Freddy Kruger prop and it was horrifically fabulous!
Genius
That is so evil, I love it!
I would pay for that job.
Genius!🙌🏻
Lmao that's pretty smart
Looks cool! To up the "real" factor, I would powder her hair to knock down the shine so it doesn't look like synthetic hair, and maybe add a bit of shading to her hands and face/
Yes!!!
I was thinking the same thing, dry shampoo works, she looks fantastic 👻
That's a fantastic idea!
Or go in the opposite direction with some wet-look hair product to get a "fresh out of the well"-look? Don't know if that would work with the synthetic hair. (I don't know how hair works, either)
Why do all of that when one of the two Wicked Makers has a head of real human hair?
It actually looks good with the edge of the dress on the ground. It makes it looks like she's pushing herself. I was hoping for a little fix on her face some black lines or something around her eyes to make her look more creepy unless just porcelain doll with black eyes. Tho that is also creepy LOL. Love watching you guys make decorations. This year my friend and I are going to attempt the giant spider
Agreed!
Yes me too .I thought they r gonna do it.cuz hair hands and face need makeover
That final version looks SO much better. See, why can't they put just a little more effort into making these things worth what we pay for them. Great job, you two, looks great. Thanks.
Thanks! 😄
Then we would have to pay even more. Imagine how much a dress costs at a store new and then add that to the cost of what you paid for the figure for starters.
@@momokoblue8032 They can do what they already do and use cheap materials, just put a little more effort into it. Instead they pad the cost with the explanation that a portion of the proceeds go to charity. Fact is, though, they make mostly low quality products and charge more than they're worth. The main reason people like them is because of the uniqueness of the selection.
Love the suggestion of using a wire brush for fraying fabric. There are few things I hate more than the "weathering" that's on the original dress, just triangles cut into the fabric. It's supposed to look like wear and tear, not the Flintstones!
Yes!!!! Agreed
I know right lol
😮😮😊
I'm glad you customized her. I thought she looked a little cheaply made originally.
😄😄😄
She is awesome!! Love all the fun stuff you guys do!! I’m a 71 year old kid!! 😊🎃🧖♀️
Thank you!!
We have this same prop. A ground light angled up at her helps increase the creepiness too!
Yes!!!!
The way the arms spread the ropes apart makes it look like she's about to launch forward off the swing and chase me and I love it
It's crazy how simple the insides of those are. Now I really want to try to make my own with wire, PVC and pool noodles
Excellent job guys! it's amazing how a few details can bump up an otherwise lackluster prop. * Tea bags work amazing for aging clothes *
Ahh yes great idea! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Or just wear it for a day of mudlarking. Make sure to take the shortcut through the raspberry brambles too.
I've had her for a few years and it looks great on my lawn. Only issue is the swinging mechanism has to be covered for the rain. I hoped you guys were going to make a cover for it so I can go with a better option then what I use lol. Oh well. Love the videos.
Yeah haven’t figured that part out yet. Hmm
How completely does it have to be covered? Would a pitched shield be enough? Kind of like a mini roof over it? If you used some sheet metal, it would be super lightweight. Although wind would likely be a problem, depending on how well it was anchored to the branch.
@@astrid6496 I was thinking of a simple pvc a frame sort of like a swing set. Small shield, or canopy for the top. I don't have a tree branch out front. I usually just construct something. This year I want to use the swinging mechanism finally.
Fake leaves on the branch to hide the mechanism and protect it as well.
@@honkylips9072 it would look really cool hanging from something that resembled the sort of frame they would have a hangman's noose on. Or you could go all out and use chicken wire and spray foam to make a tree 😂
That nightgown y'all added is perfect. Reminds me of Bathsheba's gown from The Conjuring.
Yes!!!
I really love the modifying store props videos. They look so generic out of the box. Nice work!
Glad to hear! They’re fun to do
“I don’t know how hair works” might be one of the best lines ever in a maker video 🤣
Hahah 🤣🤣
That looks amazing after the customization! One tip on the synthetic hair: You can put some baby powder on it, like, a lot of baby powder, and then shake it a bit so isn't gray or anything. That will take away some shine, and the hair will look more real!
The Goodwill dress upped the creep factor on this prop! I found I kept watching the prop between you while you were figuring out the swing mechanism. Creepy for sure! Great work.
Haha yes!! Thanks
I worked at spirit the year this was there, you wouldn’t believe the amount of returns we got when people realized she wasn’t an animatronic. We also had to figure out how to assemble her to display her because there were no instructions lol.
Haaah yeah I can imagine
You guys should record a soundtrack for her. Squeaking as she swings and an evil sounding voice that "interacts" with people as they pass by. I think that would be awesome!
Nice yeah
The difference between that dress out of the box versus the dress they achieved via customization are night and day! I'm going to go check to see if they have any tour videos from Halloween night.
The initial construction seemed a bit complicated, but I knew y'all could swing it.
I was worried it’d leave us feeling a bit empty but it all came together.
@@WickedMakers the prop looked soulless, but you guys added a lot of spirit to it

😄😄
Love this kind of stuff, helps me survive till Halloween!
Hahah same!!
You made it her look awesome! Cannot wait to see the Raven! Spirit should hire yall to make their stuff better cause you guys are pure artists!
😄😄😄 we’re excited for raven too
@@WickedMakersit needs to hurry up and get there lol!!
I love the modifications that you two did, especially with the dress!
We tried that same swinging mechanism a couple years ago, but promptly returned it. It was a bit too noisy and not secure enough to keep from rocking against the beam that we had it strapped to. I had plans to make my own swing mech with a wiper motor, but those plans got put on the back burner this year unfortunately.
Thanks!! Yeah it’s crazy noisy. Agreed.
Empty Soul Girl looks fantastic, you both did a fantastic job making her look even creepier 🎃💀🪦🦇
Thank you!
That’s what I love about you guys. Watching you trying to put this together without instructions OR cussing. I spent a very rough Christmas eve once putting together one of those springy horse toys and I’m sad to admit that I took the Lord’s name in vain and threw my screwdriver across the room several times. Kudos. Love your videos
Hahah yeah mostly. It takes practice and isn’t always like that but we really enjoy working together.
She turned out great!! I love her! Though they didn’t have her at my store last year and I wanted her so bad so we just got the crimson girl on a swing
Thanks!
wow the fact that there's no instructions is actually infuriating lol congrats on getting it figured out faster than I would have xD
I know right 😑
I think using a couple of hinges at the swing attachment point and then a bit higher up adding a tube filled with a couple of heavy round weights that roll backward and forward when the swing is moving will make the body lean forward and back as well. You will need two solenoids or actuators at the side of either end of the tube which will tip the tube up when activated via a pressure switch (which is triggered by the round weight) at each end of the pipe. This could be controlled with a simple circuit. This will create a see saw motion that would make her body shift it's centre of gravity and make it look like it's physically moving.
Nice this is great!
Good job on improving this piece. I also really like the edit cuts while you are putting together the swing mechanism which makes it appear that the Empty soul girl is moving.
Haha yes!!
I’ve been watching your channel for YEARS and I LOVE Halloween. I use this channel as my main source of inspiration for my yard. There’s something I’ve been wanting you to do for years so I was wondering if in October you could do a full yard tour?
She cool and you're details makes her standout even more. I'm definitely going to get one. And plus I need to come your goodwill store because it has everything lol
Yeah it’s new so it’s super clean 😄
Thanks for the tips guys!
Great job! You two show with a little extra work a store bought item can be turned into something truly spooky! I hope this year you share a little tour of your home haunt all ready for Halloween. 🎃
But for what the store charges for the darn things, they should look that good right out of the box!
Thanks!
Awesome . You both are so creative. Looks great
Thank you!
Perfect side hustle... customizing and selling pimped out Halloween decor! XD
She turned out great!! I really liked what you did with her!
Thanks! 😄
You guys are so awesome and making these run-of-the-mill props go over the top! Your artistic skills are top notch! I know how you feel about kids hating and loving you. My neighbors son would cross the street (opposite side) and would not come to our house for about 4-5 years.
I picked her up last year. I liked the new ideas you came up with, I will have to try them out. Thanks for sharing
You guys ROCK!! Gotta love this time of year... Halloween pregame!!! 🎃💀👻💀🎃
🤘🏼😄
I love Halloween! Who’s with me?💀👻🎃
Memememe
Me.
Meeree!!!!!!!!!?
Meeeeeeeee! Am a skeleton
meeeeereeereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
ESG is still a favorite of mine. She was a hit from the first one we put up in 2018. Since then we’ve added more and customized them. First we made a seesaw with two of them. Then we added Spiderhill swing mechanisms. The latest thing we’ve done is make a couple of them turn there heads. This year was going to be centered around them but our landlord informed us that he was selling the house. So with the chaos of finding another place all of that will have to wait.
You two are awesome. Glad I finally found someone who has fun making mistakes and making sure it works.
I love that you do this stuff together.
Yep!! 😄
I always look forward to yalls videos! I love how y'all just kind of wing it as you are filming!
Hahah yep
Your customization massively improved her, I love blood splats though so I'd be tempted to put blood splats on her dress too and maybe do something with her face
Thanks!
Thanks so much! Our Resident Evil 7 Ghost Skeleton turned out fantastic!!!!
Loving these makeover videos. One of the reasons I've hesitated to buy these kinds of props is that I didn't think they looked good enough - especially for the money they charge. But you show us easy and affordable ways to enhance their appearance so we can make them our own. Kudos!
I love your revisions on Animatronics. You take an okay looking build and make it look high end. The scarecrow you did looked like it belonged in a professional haunt.
The rope on the swing look to new. Creepy swinging girl is awsome. Love Halloween 🎃
Agreed…looks waaaaaay better. Fantastic TLC
Thanks!
Hi, Love the new look you gave her!! We got her last year and found 2 things. 1 the swing mechansimhas to be attached REALLY tightly to the branch and 2 we shortened the ropes. She swings much better with the shortened ropes. Added a couple red fire and ice lights on her and she creeped out the neighbourhood!
That looks real, and very scary, because it looks real. I’m a grown man in my late 30’s and that is eerie looking. Y’all hit this one out of the park.
Looks much better, great work y’all!
Wow! It's bigger than I thought! And how lucky you were to find that at a Goodwill!
Yes!!
It’s all in the details ! Looks awesome 😀
Yes! Thank you
Please keep up the awesome work! I hope you make more "store upgrade videos" since I love that as an idea! I hope to get inspired to try my own one day!
Nice ok!!
“I don’t know how hair works” he says, amazing and creative!
This was awesome, there are some things that no one will see at night, I think her hair and face are fine, lighting makes the difference. Great fun video.
Good to know people are making these props alot more high quality with their own little take to it! Always loved Spirit but their props always look very shabby and low-quality
Makeover videos like these always feel so entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it!
I actually agree, most props that i buy do not have directions and it can be frustrating, i need to know about the product i get! You two are so clever i love watching and i' am getting a lot of ideas thank you so much! 😊
Yep totally agree! Thanks 😄
I can’t believe how the two of them are so kind to each other and they don’t fight🤔 My husband and I would have been arguing 2 minutes into putting that together 😂👻🎃😂
Wow, I laughed so hard watching this video. How important is have a manual! You guys improve the scary doll a lot. It turned out great!! Congratulations !!😂😀👏
She looks so much better. It is amazing what pool noodles, pliers, and a trip to Goodwill can do.
I just found this channel, and now I'm binge watching all of your videos. You guys are adorable, and I love watching the process of your art. And of course, the end results are always so fantastic and a thousand percent better than the original! You both make this stuff look so easy and I know for a fact that it isn't. Great job; you've found another subscriber!
Changing the position of the arms helped so much!! Love the night gown you guys found at gw
Awesome job, guys! Love it!
Makes me think of Alma from the FEAR series. If I remember correctly you even find her in a swing at one point in the second game.
The new nightgown definitely looks better than the old one. She looks so cool!
Yes!!!
Hey can you do a haunted elf on the shelf makeover? My dog recently chewed up mine and she looks scary so it gave me the idea
Love this! Excellent job guys!
Thanks!
This was AWESOME you guys should do a whole series of Spirit prop makeovers!!!🎃
Glad to hear it 😄
Great job guys! Looks great!
I love these Halloween projects! 1000 times better
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼😄
You guys really made her so much better😭 I would be terrified
Y’all inspired me to try Halloween decorations and I look forward to all your uploads! 😄👍🏻
Amazing! Love to hear that
It's already September so spooky month isn't far away! :D 👻
I love the remakes! They look so good!
Love it. Since K&T won't do the redo vids anymore. Glad someone is
Are they done? Or just not active yet this season
@@WickedMakers they didn't do any in 2021 and nothing so far this year. So I'm guessing they're done. Sad but I'm glad u guys are doing some. I love these re-do vids
Awesome, great job! I just ordered one...thank you for the inspo! 👻
Nice!
The change in the gown was the best improvement of all!
Yes!!!
Love seeing out of box props customized!! Great job!🧡🖤🧡
It was so fun
You need to get some spray bottles filled with water and Ritz dye to weather the fabric. Try it on your next fabric weathering project
Good idea!
@@WickedMakers Absolutely love your work!
you guys are so awesome at Halloween crafts!
Thanks! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼😄
I’d be terrified. Great job!!!
love all the videos, can't wait to see more foam diys for this year
Y'know, the fact that you don't have "Halloween decorations", so much as macabre "Home Decor", and that you put so much effort and creativity to get these props to the next level, means you're Addamses. (Okay, Munsters, if you prefer, but I'm pretty convinced the two families are related.)
The nightgown is perfect for the character, and an excellent upgrade!
Very nice touch, wire-brushing, instead of the cheesy factory pointy-cut hem.
Another excellent upgrade!
Thanks!! 😄 I think we’re somewhere in between the Adammses and the Munsters 🤣
Awesome job!!! I would love to see the staff
I love how she is staring at us while you work
Loved what you guys added! She is super creepy now! And yay for Goodwill!
Thanks! 😄
Soaking the gown in tea will help with the weathered and worn look.
Great job. Looks fantastic.
Thanks!
Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!!
Look much scarier than the original! Good job!
Looks awesome! You guys did a great job!
Now that is creepy! Love how it came out.
Thanks! 🤘🏼😄
There needs to be like a breathing sound effect or something to hide the sound of the motors, in my opinion, but you did a GREAT job taking the creepy factor to the next level! How much was this? I'm a little disappointed in how much work had to be done just to make it "serviceable" and how much extra was the swinging mechanism?
It was $70 and then I think $30.
The regular spook soundtrack with wind, moans, and creaking branches should drown out the motor sound.
My son has a swing that creakes terribly! I really need to record that noise, it'll do wonders on Halloween. I'll just have to diy the girl sice there are very limited options for good props in Germany.
Or a little girl tunelessly humming. (Although my brain immediately goes to the Little Girl's rhyme from the beginning of the Buffy: the Vampire Slayer episode "Hush" : "Can't even shout, can't even cry. The Gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows, knocking on doors. They need to take seven and they might take yours. Can't call to Mom, can't say a word. You're going to die screaming but you won't be heard.")
@@beckymurphy4714 That humming idea is brilliant!
First of all, just wanna say you guys are absolutely awesome...love love the videos and creativity. I purchased her and trying to do similar techniques. I noticed she tends to lean backwards and can't get the weight more forward on the seat. When you took plyers and bent her head, did you break the weldjoint when it snapped? I'm confused on how you got her to look down. I can't get the metal to bend, even tried a blowtorch for a bit. It seems if I apply too much pressure I may break that weld joint. But I will break it, if thats what it takes and it worked for you. Thanks again you guys!! 😉
You should be able to just hit the pole with hammer to bend it. For the neck, it allllmmmmoost broke. Very close. Bend it very gently. 😄😄
Thanks again, everything is coming along nicely and she is basically done. Just finishing up building her swingset that she will be swinging on! Cheers! @@WickedMakers
@@chugger93how’d it turn out?
