Thanks for featuring my book!!!! And thanks for helping me with my skeleton prop!!!! More DIYS from the book are coming soon to my channel, The Lair of Voltaire
One cool things about spooky decorations is that if something goes wrong, you can just claim that was part of the plan. So what if the spider has a massive crack in the body. Maybe that's by design!
@@TopazSpazNow THAT would be creepy and cool! Some spiders, like the wolf spider, carry their young on their back. So yeah, maybe the crack was part of the design so the babies could be on the crawling out of it and all over the spider’s back. I wouldn’t have that thing in my house, though. I have severe arachnophobia…
I got a fun fix for the crack in the spider. Take some of those little plastic spiders. Glue them on there and make it look like they’re coming out so it can be a mother spider.
Love this! I enjoy watching the animatronic projects, but I'm glad we are getting more accessible projects for the spooky season. With the rise of 3d printing and laser cutters, I feel like we rarely see these kinds of manual projects anymore.
Your custom animatronics are phenomenal, but I also love seeing these smaller projects that are more accessible to recreate. I would love to see something from Over the Garden Wall in the future! Maybe The Beast or Enoch.
I have an idea for the big gash on the big spider. Buy a bunch of small plastic spiders and have them crawling out of the gash and crawling all over the big spider and some on the ground. Also as an option, add some hot glue gun cobwebs all over the spider too to give that really creepy feeling.
Thank you for mentioning the respirator miss! I see a lot of creators not using them when they should be because it's "just one project" but as someone who saw family members struggle with later-in-life effects of forgetting, it's SO important! Yall are the best!
So great to see you guys just kicking back with the basics again, it's clear this was a lot of fun to do. While my kids and I absolutely love the more complex projects you are doing these days (don't ever stop evolving!!), videos like these inspire us to do stuff with the more limited equipment we have here.
It's nice seeing Halloween how to's on your channel again that are not all 3d print this, program that. This is the stuff that made me really enjoy this channel. ❤

What you have put on your spider are the pedipalps, not fangs. Pedipalps are located next to the chelicerae (mouth parts that cover the fangs). In scorpions, the pedipalps are the pincers, but in spiders they are sensory organs that also play a role in reproduction. Adult male spiders have bulbous ends to their pedipalps that make it look like the spider is wearing boxing gloves. So, your spider is a female.
The spider tutorial was exactly what I was looking for this year. For bending the fingers at the joints, wrap the fingers in aluminum foil but leave the joints unwrapped. That will protect the finger bones from the heat but heat up the joints faster
I love how you guys include and don’t cut out when things don’t go according to plan or get messed up! It’s very “human” and relatable and if I ever made one of these and messed up the first time I wouldn’t feel alone. I’d also learn from your guy’s (fun) mistakes. You guys are awesome💗💗
I just wanted to say, I have really bad arachnophobia, but the big spider is really cute, because the eyes are also so big and shiny. I like it! And the Scarecrow and the ghost are also very good looking!
I was hoping, suggested even, that when they moved they look for a place with plenty of property and additional out buildings. For storage and building their props with wooded land to create a walk/wagon ride through haunted venue😮!!! The woods might be challenging to find in Texas but I bet a property with barns or a garage or two would not be too hard to find...
The spider actually looks cool with the crack! Maybe paint the crack with black light paint and make him look radioactive or just paint the crack a color to give him character
This is perfect! I've done a project with my father every halloween. We create an evil scarecrow prop and add to it every year. This year we thought about making it an animatronic and you guys have been a huge inspiration. I've also decide to write a book for the backstory of this character and hopefully it's published by halloween. It's called "The Pumpkin Man"
I work in a makerspace at a museum and met a fellow fan of your channel today. Such a sweet kid. Just wanted to pop on to say the two of you really make a difference and inspire so many
I -really- love the pumpkin scarecrow, because that one is totally an apartment-safe project! I'm a lifelong apartment dweller, and there's definitely some restrictions on crafting that people don't think about until they run into them- like a complete lack of ventilation (no way to get adequate ventilation inside and no power outlets outside), not being able to use loud tools because of the neighbors, not being able to use spraypaint even outside because the overspray paints property that does not belong to you, etc etc. I love it when I see projects that don't involve heat guns, wood stain, and spray foam! Remember, though, fellow apartment haunters, that you can't let circumstances steal all your fun. If you can't use a heat gun to bend the fingers of a plastic skeleton, you can also cut partially through the plastic, bend the hand into place, and then use hot glue to fill in the newly created gaps. If you can't use a heat gun and plastic to corpse a skeleton, you can use glue and tissues, along with some cotton balls, to give it a corpsey texture. And, like the floating skeleton in this video, if you can't use woodstain, you CAN use acrylic paint to stain and age a plastic skeleton!
The skeleton makeover was incredible! I like that method and result of decaying better than others I've seen. I enjoyed seeing you two tackle some simple projects that when done well produce some big results!
all of these are super cool. 18:27 this spider looks great and the crack makes it look like a cursed or zombie spider. i bet y'all would make that look so easy. great work!
You never fail to impress! I would love to live in the same town as you, so I could attend your yard haunts and displays every year. I love learning all these great skills from you, your talent and ability to teach makes this channel so much fun to watch!
The split in back could be a blessing in disguise, just fill it with neon mini spider toys and make it look like they’re spilling out like a spider egg!
I can't believe how amazing that spider looks. I think the cracks make it look even more badass. And the floating skeleton? That would easily sell for ~$150 finished.
Man hearing the name Aurelio Voltaire hit me like a truck, it's always wild when two of your favorite things unexpectedly come together. Any fans of Billy and Mandy should know he's the guy who sings "Brains" and the opening of Big Boogie Adventure "Land of the Dead" and he has a stop motion short film narrated by Danny Elfman called DemiUrge Emesis, he's got a lot of cool music and stuff that's worth checking out.
I love these, they all look great! I really enjoy these approachable projects, too. I think it would also look cool to put some non-stiffened cheesecloth on top of the skeleton to get movement in the wind, building on the more stable cool draping!
So neat!!! I definitely wanna try to make that skeleton for this year, and may try adding some glow-in-the-dark paint to his robes. As for the spider, again, super cool. My thoughts went to the same place so many others did, with suggesting a bunch of smaller spiders spilling out. I'm so glad to have found your channel!!
I love your videos guys, and I'm always so thankful that you make the process so understandable and entertaining, I would like to study in the future something related with robotics so this kind of videos makes me happy. Greetings from Argentina!!!
Such a nice selection of easy crafts that look really cool. Also, where the spider busted open. You could add some green slime to make it look like battle damage.
Okay we gotta fix recommendations. I've watched every video and liked just about every community post ever made from y'all and UA-cam still waits days to recommend your new videos. You two are amazing! Thanks for the fantastic videos.

It's the perfect tag team: Wicked Makers & The Lair of Voltaire 😍. Thanks for showing some projects from the book. Now I have to get it for this year's Halloween party inspiration 🤩
I really love how these turned out, especially the scarecrow and spider! I may try to make one of those for our yard since we need a "bigger" decoration
Very cool builds. Have you ever thought of making a giant cobra snake from pool noodles? I was thinking that maybe using a 12vdc washer pump from a vehicle and use that along with an infrared trigger like on overhead garage doors that turn on the lights and have that trigger the pump to make the snake spit its venom for a few seconds at kids as they walk up to your door. Mount the IR trigger along the sidewalk before the prop. Maybe have the snake coiled around a gallon or two jug of water, with the pump inside so it is hidden, but easy to refill. Then mount the nozzle from the washer unit in the snake's mouth. Those washer pumps and nozzles will shoot water a pretty good distance. Keep up the great work.
You guys keep surprising me with your affiliations to my very niche interests. First Rooster Teeth, now Aurelio Voltaire! Honestly, if next week you casually mention you’ve done props for Dragula or that you’re friends with Tsutomu Nihei I won’t even be surprised. Stellar creations as always! Despite these projects being easier to make than your elaborate animatronics, your talent and creativity still shine as bright. They are definitely in the DIY realm but are very professional in the execution
Happy to see you went back to real DIY. With materials within reach for everybody. I like to see a good balance between this and the hydraulic stuff because that's cool to offcourse. ❤
