love what you two make... How about making a motion detected bell for your Grave yard scene, you know "Saved by the bell" Please keep up the great work.
"Looks like he's drinking fire [...]" That's a great idea right there... simulate a stream of fire with LEDs and glas fibers or similar light transmitting fibers.
Every pump has a Head limit. Which is how high in the air it can pump a vertical tube of water. By lifting the bucket you essentially shorten the height it is pumping up.
So, I'm trying to make a Monster with water/blood dripping out of his mouth. the water needs to flow up 7 feet. I purchased a 400gph pump with the water in a bucket on the ground and the tube running up to the mouth about 7 feet up. But the water flow is too strong even if I shut the value/vent to close.Do you know if I should buy a 160 gph or 200 gph pump to get closer to a trickle coming out of the monster's mouth? Any info is greatly appreciated.
Really cool. By the way, the effect on the ride is actually achieved by rotating a sparkly ribbon by one end. It's mainly because real water wouldn't be that visible from that distance. Yours looks way better in the day and up close.
We built one of these for our haunt this year, and a few days ago a dad & small child were admiring our decorations. The kid - I'm guessing around 5? 6? - took one look at it and exclaimed, "That looks like the Wicked Makers!!" Now there's a dad who's raising his son right 🙂
This is the coolest idea ever. I love how happy the skeleton looks to be chilling with his mates, drinking wine he probably looted from someone's basement.
I was wondering why the Goodwill looked so neat and had such nice inventory, and then they said "Thanks, Goodwill, for sponsoring this video." Great project!
I thought the end scene was hilarious - all his friends are just sitting casually in proper chairs around a set table and then there is Bart chillin’ in a trough. The other skeletons: “we don’t know him”. You guys did a fantastic job! Thanks for the great video!
I had a similar idea to this, but thought I’d do a skeleton spitting back in to the cauldron he was being cooked in by a witch! Not sure how it will turn out, but it’ll be interesting to see. Great video 👍🎃👻
You could probably have the return tube going up the path of the water flow, like with the floating faucet fountains. That way you wouldn't need to worry about hiding the tubing along the arm.
I LOVE THIS IDEA SOOOOO MUCH! We actually did a Pirate Porch theme for several years in a row before we started changing it up. So we still have a ton of pirate decor leftover. I've already planned a "Sleepy Hollow" theme for this year, but NEXT YEAR I'm totally tackling this. Thank you guys for the inspiration. You're the best!
I literally said are you going to dye the water to look like wine? then almost out of my control I started squawking like the skeleton from the last unicorn "he needs wine give him WINE." the love I have for that movie I could write a book about.
I built one of these last year, had the same issues with the too small pump and the weight of the water on the arm requiring reinforcement. Great job showing all the details.
Awesome! I am impressed on how the skeleton was aged with the wood stain. The other two skeletons would have looked good stained as well, and maybe an eye patch on one :)
Is it sad that I have one of those Logitech joysticks connected to my PC still that I shamelessly use to play Dangerous Dave much to everyones disgust!
We don't have GoodWill here in my neck of Canada, but we do have a chain called "Value Village" which is very similar. That is by far one of my favorite places to go hunting for halloween decorations.
This is so inspiring! I have an old bicycle in my flower garden that I put a skeleton on and make it look like he’s riding it. Maybe I’ll have him drinking a water bottle! Thank you for showing us your talents!
Love this build! Another hack is I use uv resin and a uv light for instant bonds, restructures, and coffee grinds and water, or tea, to soak my items I need to age. Boiling water will quickly soften these skeletons for easy and quick remolding. Like you guys, 30 yrs of trial and error lol. Going to go build this guy now! ❤️thank you for the amazing build!
Even if you aren't planning to make a fountain, there are so many great tips in this video. Using tea as the base for your "wine" was brilliant! Love the way you dirtied the boots, and using both hot glue *and* Gorilla Glue to break-and-reposition the skeleton is a game-changer for me. Many thanks for posting!
Home run! After a couple of years I had to replace my wire (for the arm) to conduit. It’s a crowd favorite but it always takes for ever to set up to get the bottle pouring in just the right position!
Very creative and a really fun build! Curiously in the actual skeleton in the attraction there is no liquid involved. The “liquid” is simply a small piece of 1” wide red plastic that has been twisted into a spiral and then rotated with a small motor at the bottom to create the illusion of liquid going down. It looks good from a distance with good lighting but your’s probably looks more realistic as it is!
The phenomenon that occurs when you lift the bucket is the same reason water towers work and old toilets used to have the tank way up on the wall. iirc the gravitational force of the water going down helps overcome atmospheric pressure in the air side of the tube so it isnt just the motor working all that force.
Great idea well executed, but... why did you route the water tube up his arm? Wouldn't it have been better to put the tube into the bottle via it's neck. That way the tube would have been invisible. Similar to 'floating tap' water features.
@@LauraMarieGG I think they mean if you fed the tube up through the skeletons body and have the open end come out his mouth and directly into the bottle, then the water would come out of the hose, into the bottle and then run down the hose back into the skeletons mouth.
I love this - seems like something I could actually make, thanks for posting! Here in Southern California our Goodwill stores don't have nearly as much cool "stuff" as yours does but yes, thrifting is always the way to go!
They make red fluorescent pigment you can add to the liquid - would probably look really cool under a black light (you'd probably have to switch the tubing to black though).
I love this prop. It's too bad that these plastic skeletons are so expensive. I managed to snag one from Walgreens in their after Halloween sale a few years ago for $30, but most places want $50-60 for them! Mine isn't even posable, all the joints just flop around. I also managed to break the spine just moving it around. I shoved a piece of broom handle into the opening and just secured it to the bottom, so I now have a two-piece skeleton. It makes it easier to move. I also broke the thumb off the right hand, which I "fixed" by drilling into it and sticking a piece of wire into it. It's not glued, so it will pull right off if you try. I also wanted to comment that everyone else seems to have way better Goodwill stores than any around here. In every Goodwill that I've been to, all of the electronics and small appliances, are just thrown together on a shelf and it's mostly all crap. Curling irons, VHS rewinders, battery operated candles, dirty keyboards, wireless mice without the receivers, etc. It's rare that I actually see something of interest there. They also don't have any dedicated video game/software section and you're lucky if you see 3-4 Xbox 360 games in the case up front (and they'll all be sports games). On the other hand, all the stores here do a color of the week, where everything with a certain color tag will be half-off.
As a former Goodwill employee, I will tell you why that may be. They auction off on their website anything that can be of significant value. So, any games other than sports games, or any game systems such as your Nintendo, Xbox, and Playstation systems, will be auctioned off for more than they could get for it in store. Along with laptops, computers, phone's, anything that can hold significant value. Goodwill is for profit. They are not a charity, no matter how much they may claim to be, they are a for profit company.
Walgreens is a great place for post holiday decoration sales. I've gotten two 3/4th scale skeletons for 12 dollars each (normally about 40 dollars) and a giant spider for 15 dollars (which I think was going for 50). The trick is to get there immediately after the holiday ends, preferably early in the day when everything goes on sale.
A cool variation on that would be to place a motor on the shoulder joint. And have him raising the bottle up to his mouth, pouring the "wine" into mouth, then lowering the bottle. You'd need to cut off the flow of "wine" when the arm is lowered obviously.
Had a similar idea once, seeing it work gives room for improvement such as building it as a tipping bucket fountain to add movement to the skeleton like kicking a leg.
This here be a grand ol' project, cousin Barty looks great! On an unrelated note, I have found that I love just looking at your shirts to see what fandom shows up - 13:22 I love Camp Camp 🏕
You guys could have easily used that little tiny pump if you would have found a small enough container that would have fit into the chest cavity allowing you to still use that small pump and not have to get a different one
when I first saw Barty laying on the workbench you had the paint can open in front of his mouth..at first glance it looked like he was making the '0' like from that painting the scream..chuckle..
You heat up the bottle and tape the hands and fingers around the hot bottle. As it cools the fingers will remain in that position. Use a hair dryer to heat or reheat.
Water flowed when you raised the bucket because it was siphoning the water, which is best done with the exit of the hose below the level of liquid. Great project!
Disneyland, are you taking notes? LOL. This is perfect for a Pirates of the Caribbean Halloween Theme. You're both amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent!
OMG! Thank you for the comment about living in a hot sunny place! Years ago I watched this Doller Tree DIY video where she made a trivet by hot gluing rocks to cork. I had asked for creater feedback and was burned at the steak by others for being "critical of her work" when all I wanted was to not waste my time and money on something that would just fall apart on me! Also year's before this I knew someone that used hot glue to fix his side mirror on his car and it fell and broke. I live in the Pacific Northwest, not that hot here.
To explain why raising the bucket helps you first have to know a little bit about physics. Whenever you have an object that has mass and you elevate it to a higher elevation than what it was relative to the starting position it then gains what's known as potential energy. For example if you have a ball and it's on the ground it can't fall anymore because it's on the ground yet if you raise the ball then it can fall to the ground. The pump is underpowered and when you raise the bucket the water now has more potential energy that is pushing on the water going upstream and is assisted with the pump. It's like if you were to try and pull a cart uphill and you can't do it but you're close and someone comes behind you and pushes it making it easier to lift up the hill.
Very cool! I’d say the only thing else you could do would be to get white tubing instead of clear, and stain that as well so it blends in with the arm.
I offer my old torn clothes and some broken things to a friend who does projects and stuff. I think Goodwill needs to start a section of their stores to craft, re/up cycling. I'm sure people could repurpose an old flat bike tube or worn out tire for a project.
The air pressure of all the air above us is 14 lbs/sq in. So, the pump has to push the water up against the weight of the air. When you move the pump up, you relieve the amount of pressure pushing down, so the motor can push back to it's maximum.
We recently broke our Steve Skeleton during a rafting trip. I repaired him using electric fence wire & caulking. He still bends but he stays in place, no matter his pose.
Haha I love the solid electric fence wire. Whenever we would redo our horse pasture, we'd always keep the old and left over wire. I've used it for so many DIY projects, it's great!
Im so jealous of that Good Will. My local thrift only sometimes has a small selection of Halloween things but ALWAYS is stocked with Christmas stuff. It was sad going in there in September and seeing isles of Christmas everything, and only a few trick or treat bags along with a handful of random Halloween themed bits of shelf decor. And the 3 dollar speakers make me think the prices are better than my local too.
when you lower the bucket, you're increasing the static head lift required. you went beyond the capability of the pump and were right by getting larger pump with a higher lift.
One of my first D&D campaigns featured a barbarian/undead-slayer named Bart lol. He'd take one look at this fellow and pull out his giant crossbow lol.
Idea! When I saw the new bigger pump working so well. Animate the drinking arm to swing up and down slowly and put a momentary switch on the downward sweep in a location to match timing. Pump off when down, pump on when up. Yeah, you might need a swivel joint for the water line at the shoulder. Maybe run the water line through the hollow bones?
Omg I love this! I've been wanting to do a pirate shipwreck theme in my yard & this will be a perfect addition! I always make our costumes from scratch & Goodwill is one of my go-to places for pieces to alter! Just discovered your page today & am binge watching. Great content!
The bandana really helped add some dimension around his head and your eyeline follow that arc of the liquid. This whole thing is fantastic! Easily $200 at some big store for something way chintzier in quality and like you said, you're keeping items from the trash.
This is awesome! This gives me an idea to make a blood fountain with skulls! So awesome! If you guys like video suggestions, I would love to learn how to make a super giant jack o lantern that kids can sit on to take pictures. Thanks for all your ideas and tips!
Thanks for watching! You are all awesome.

Nice!!!
That is the cleanest Goodwill I've ever seen
would have been really cool if you found a white pirate-looking shirt with sleeves that would help hide the hose on the arm.
This skeleton looks like the one that my mom bought for Halloween 🎃.
Ahoy

What do you do with a drunken sailor? Now, we know. :)
The bandana really helped add some dimension around his head and your eyeline follow that arc of the liquid. This whole thing is fantastic! Easily $200 at some big store for something way chintzier in quality and like you said, you're keeping items from the trash.
I have never seen a goodwill so clean and organized. Magic
This is awesome! This gives me an idea to make a blood fountain with skulls! So awesome!
If you guys like video suggestions, I would love to learn how to make a super giant jack o lantern that kids can sit on to take pictures. Thanks for all your ideas and tips!
This is so great! Love what you guys do. Such a fun couple to follow.

Drinky the skeleton looks fantastic and I unironically love the space pizza cat top!
