    That’s right it never hurts to have over kill on the hills especially when you feel something pushing you around, and you usually got your kids with you too so always better to be on the safe side.

    Nice Rake! Back in 92 as we moved farms, Dad was VERY happy to get rid of square baler for the 530 Hesston round baler, we had bought a round bale feeding barn. 1 bale each side. Roll them out. And it was EASY! Surprisingly.

    Going with round bails and using equipment to handle them is the smarter way to go. 10-15-20 years from now I'm sure you won't want to be in the barn handling small square bails! It's a tough job and a young man's job and like you said finding young people to help is hard in today's world! Beautiful new rake!! 👍😎

    We’re the same way with hills in East Tennessee. If you have the weight, use it. I had the same issues with my dad switching to round bales. You weren’t farming unless you have a heat stroke

    Ahh who cares what others think? You guys do what works for you. Not everything works the same for everyone. Gotta love these keyboard princesses.. I’ve used a miller pro double rake (yes you can split them up if need be) and I’ve used a Kuhn double rotary rake.. I liked them both… they both have their pros, & cons. Great video I’d vote 4960… lol it’s my favorite! Happy belated Father’s Day

    Nothing wrong with that rake, my uncle had a rollbar rake it it worked great for his operation because we use a Super M for raking. I agree that round bales are the only way to go. When my uncle switched there was a learning curve, but once dailed in, we knocked out the acres.

      @billpollock1763 I joke ound but I really don't have an issue with red. The closest reliable red/blue dealership for parts and service is whites farm supply which is an hour away or Clinton tractor which is a little over an hour. John deere is 25 minutes north and another one 25 minutes south

    • @billpollock1763

    I like the extra hydraulic features on that new Kuhn.👌
    We picked up a new rotary rake to pair up with our 15 year old one, if we want we can both go rake.
    I'd also like some version of a double rotary, but unless you're doing custom work, I don't know how to justify a nearly $40,000 rake, and even good used ones aren't that cheap.

    It appears that the 2940 lacks wheel weights whereas both the 4040 and 4055 have been equipped with rear wheel weights which undoubtedly gives them an extra weight advantage. At 4:50 of that video you acknowledge that the 2940 must of have been on the blower back in the day. Why is that not feasible now? For our tractors, I built a couple of 3ph weight bars that will allow the lighter tractors to get that extra weight when they need to be used in a short-handed situation.

    • @mikep7810
      @mikep7810  3 місяці тому

      The 2940 has the heavier wheels on it. I'm not sure what the weight of the tractor has to do with running it on the blower. Yes we did use it back in the day when that's all we had. I have a question for you Carl. What tractor do you think would run the blower better. An 80 HP tractor, a 100 HP tractor, or a 120 HP tractor?

  • @handyandy6071
    @handyandy6071 4 місяці тому +1

    A rotery rake does a lot better job kicking over heavy hay than a wheel rake. Don't worry about other people's comments about the way you spend your money on equipment. Most are probaly part time farmers. Makes a lot of difference makeing a living as a full time farmer. Especially a dairy farmer.

    The mower I ran like that you need a heavier tractor for the mower

      Thank you. For first cutting we are letting the wheel loader do all the lifting and stacking

    Mike you do you. We couldn't justify the price of rotary rakes. As for quality of job depends on rake setup. As for hours on a tractor who cares. We use the best tractor for the job. We buy our tractors to use not sit around because we don't want to get to many hours on them. All our tractors are 2000 to 10000 hours anyway 😅

      I agree. We buy the tractors to work not to be stored as low houred tractors

    Can confirm, that rake is more impressive in person.
    I haven’t had enough coffee yet, so hopefully this makes sense, but that chopper that photobombed your video is a perfect allegory to what people expect on farms today. You can’t go on social media today and not see huge equipment rolling through the fields. Not that we don’t do our part to showcase the smaller farms and older equipment, but the shiny new ones get the algorithm going.
    I’m actually surprised that no one has suggested you get all your fieldwork custom done. Maybe I can be a trendsetter here 🤔
    People also forget that what works for one farm, might not work for another farm. I mean, they’re farms right? Can’t be all that different 😏😂
    My personal opinion, instead of a 7810, you guys should be looking for an International 2+2, really cause a dumpster fire in the comments 😂

      I've had people say we should get things custom done. I've been told we shouldn't have gotten our combine and that we could get our harvesting custom done and I've been told I shouldn't have gotten the round baler and we should just keep getting that custom done.....I'm glad we didn't go that route

    when people do not see the whole lay of the land they will not understand why you use a bigger tractor to run different equipment with the lay of your land bigger is better in many cases
