Two people, of vastly different ages, discuss a shared experience that impacted their lives, how it affected them and how they dealt with it to ultimately emerge stronger.
In this episode of The Gap, legendary Broadcaster and National Treasure, Sir David Attenborough, sits down to discuss the Natural World with Tom Parry, an up and coming filmmaker.
Through their conversation we learn about the way the natural world has changed over their lifetimes. They also their loves, fears, and heartbreaking encounters while documenting the natural world.

Farhan...yes, this is more an interview of Attenborough, rather than a dialogue between the two. However, he acknowledges what his generation did not do, and clearly welcomes and values the participation of a younger generation in addressing the natural world's woes (and us by extension).

To me it look like it boils down to power and survival. Reducing emissions and pollution is expensive, which in return means less money for military and defences, which then again equals to a weaker country/unrest in fair of a attack or possible ww3. A country will be safe/safer in doing so in the short term, but in the long run we will reduce the chance of our planet's survival I think.

You can tell the young guy was pretty happy to meet Attenborough.
You could feel the sheer honour that young man felt being in the presence of such a wonderful person, being taught by a legend. This was a beautiful interaction.

My sister wrote sir David a letter about her concerns of climate change and got a handwritten reply within 2 days. Amazing. Can’t think of one other celebrity, especially one of Sir David’s ‘famousness” who would do that. All too full of their own self importance, but not him

@oof what exactly could she do? The vast majority of pollution comes from manufacturing, energy generation and transportation. The only way to reduce those sources are to develop clean energy renewables, electric transportation and carbon capture to reduce the existing CO2 levels. She can become an engineer and that would be a good start, but we're limited by funding from companies and governments. They are the ones who can make a difference. Otherwise, speaking an educating yourself and others about climate change is a good thing, its not just 'talk'. The more people understanding the better, so you don't get as many climate change deniers in positions of power, and you get people who understand and want to make a difference
I cried a lot through this honestly. There's something about it that gets me emotional and motivated. I will never forgive Lad Bible for spoiling Game of Thrones on Facebook (You utter wankers) but this video is beautiful.

The man is 93 years old. I find that incredible. Clearly staying active, being in the outdoors, keeping the mind active and simply having g a purpose in life is so important in old age. The day he passes will be a sad sad day indeed.
I honestly think this is the key to ageing gracefully. You hear stories of people who retire and just sit on their ass doing nothing and either die or age terribly.
He has one of the most iconic and greatest voices ever.
My father met him some time ago. Attenborough signed his book and had a five minute coversation. My father is an educated enviromentalist and he said David was the smartest and nicest person he had met.

I'd say it's the blame of humanity. Per generation things get better so putting the blame on just them isn't fair when they also worked for s better world then the world the generations before their generation left them. It's a cycle of improvement that I think you can't blame one specific generation
@@arminkuburas1696 the issue is that they had scientific evidence of climate change as far back as 50 years ago and many chose to ignore it. Not only that, but you'd be surprised at how many people are still in the mindset of "Why should I care about climate change if I'm going to be dead by the time it starts to have major effects?" And we also have many people from past generations who still believe that climate change doesn't exist.
People don't seem to understand that the Earth has been through much worse than what it is currently going through. She will be here long after we are gone. Mother Earth tries to cleanse herself and keep us (and all other living beings) in check with viruses, natural disasters, and other strategies but humans are very stubborn. Humans think they have more of a right to be here than any other species. I have a feeling Mother Earth will have the last laugh. Maybe global warming is actually her way of eradicating most of us and putting things back into balance ;)

One thing I notice is the level of knowledge between the two people, just shows that eduction is just education and nothing replaces the physical hands on experience.

I never usually cry feel distraught when celebrities die, I suppose it's because there's no personal attachment, no music listened or film watched or I don't hear about it. But goodness me, when Sir David passes I shall be so heartbroken. He was such a big part of my life, I've been listening to him for years. He is so inspiring, I can't imagine a world without him

Do you know of a Limb Bizkit song called 'My generation'? Some of the lyrics go "Who gets the blame? You get the blame, and I get the blame". Instead of blame being pointlessly chucked about, people should come together and just help each other fix things before it's too late. Who knows, it might even bring back sense of communities.
David Attenborough's message couldn't be any better. However. It has to said that, if there is such a responsibility, it's that the older generations need to show the younger generations important values, explain why it's important and it'll be ingrained and past down forever. If not, nothing will ever change.
David Attenborough is a legend. He just knows his way around anything. You can tell the lad is trying his absolute hardest not to burst out with excitement.

I love how Sir David Attenborough recalls his stories it really makes you picture the place he should be put on the pound coin what a world treasure
Even hearing this gentleman's voice makes you feel something more. I am glad he does not shirk his generation's part in the damage to the world (many older people pretend it is their predecessors and those after them, never them, we all have a part). He sees that people now are more awake than before to the issues, hopefully we can make the changes needed.
All I ever wanted to do is work with animals. I'm studying wildlife biology at the moment. I cant wait to do my part in conservation.
